Pinky I don't have anything on him unfortunately.

I've just remembered a story of a good friend of mine - and I hope still a good friend after he reads this - if he's on these boards at all.

He was taken home one night by Moresby's finest - a little worse for wear. He arose from the sleep of the innocent next morning without a car. A little quick thinking and he told his beloved that the car was at the garage being fixed. He convinced his beloved of this for three days until - on a slow news day - she saw a photograph on the front page of the Post Courier of his car being winched up from one of the many drop offs at the side of POM roads.

I don't know what happened after that!

Following email received from the Chief Organiser.....
Hi All,

This is just a reminder about registering for the reunion. Registration, on the original agreement closes next Thursday 31st March one month prior to the function. I will be visiting the resort next Thursday to see if arrangements can be made to deal with a closer cut off date. Once I get the answers I will put out an email to all but in the meantime you may wish to make arrangements and let others know. The one point the Resort was adamant about right from the start is they are unable to consider having a ‘walk in on the night’ situation.

Everything else seems to be in place. There will be a short formal piece at sundown with toasts at the function, this will be M/C’d by Peter Sharpe.

I have just picked your email addresses as you would seem to have other contacts you may be able to jog them along. “The old PNG Syndrome”

Happy Easter.

Chuckles It DOES have a certain ring to it, but you can always tell a Southern Hemisperical Pilot....they don't know where all the crumpet is in the Med... Try Palma (PMI) bags of it there. Waltham going full chat today...lots of Yaks annoying the
wossnam out of me.! By the way, the 180 took off at Wycombe Tuesday fully ballasted on Air Test after CofA, and the bluddy tailwheel casting broke off.!!!!! They stopped the gliding whilst it stooged around for a bit, and when safe the Engineer made an approach into wind and put it down with no damage whatsoever.!! Well done that man.! Bit arrived from Wichita today, so it should be out the hangar next week.
Some engineers have their uses.!!

Exclamation Airport Security at work in Oz

This morning's Post Courier was full of outrage and indignation over the latest fiasco involving The Chief. Seems that he was subjected to a body search at Brisbane Airport, both enroute to New Zealand and upon his return from there. And it seems that this wasn't the first time that it's happened to him at Brisbane.

As if it isn't bad enough that New Zealand's PM was subjected to a security search a while ago? In that instance, I think it happened in Sydney but the point is that it shouldn't have happened at all.

By any definition, Sir Michael Somare is a VIP by virtue of his status as Prime Minister of PNG. He would also have been using a diplomatic passport because he was on official travel. No matter whether the search was deliberate, or a dumb error by some idiotic jobsworth, it represents a failure to observe protocol.

The newspaper report says that an official complaint will be lodged. We'll undoubtedly hear more about this in the media, in coming days.

Ozmate; I hear you and tend to agree re your post about what happened to Sir Michael Somare. I also note the unapologetic reply from Alexander Downer re said incident.
I just wonder if the attitude expressed by the Foreign Minister is a sort of (not so) a diplomatic reminder to Sir Michael about who is financing to a very large extent, the disfunctional state of PNG and just where he (Sir Michael) stands in this state of affairs.

Is the owner..." Jabber Jim " ( Sir James Jacobi )...still running ?
And for those who don't know, " Tangfu " stands for Typical Air Niugini F... Up. Was okay until the damned thing started to win a few races and people began enquiring about the origin of the name.

I don't think so Pinky. I suspect that he's merely trying to cover up for yet another major blunder. I don't have a problem with security checks of lesser government representatives, but I'd have expected that a PRIME MINISTER would've been accorded more respect, regardless of the dysfunctional state of the country.

I'll bet that nobody will dare to pull the same stunt when the Indon PM visits Australia!

Security

Hey Ozzex, seeing that you are in the admin side of the game, I 'd expect that you would be on the ball as far as security requirements go.

Heads of State etc are not normally exempt from security checks but these are normally done discreetly outside of sight of us mere mortals. See PNG CAA Security Manual. (or Aus or NZ or USofA)

So, Sharpie, you're saying that Oz airport security staff should screen Little Johnny Howard AND the Indon PM? Yeah, I can see THAT happening!

Ozexpat.

Why not?

Have a look at the Security Manual and see who is exempt.

Remember the clown with the PNG PM who boarded and took a Gat to singapore.

Sharpie... as you may have detected from my previous posts on this subject, I've studiously avoided mention of excluding all the "lesser mortals". In fact, here's what I said on that very subject, in reply to Pinky :-

I don't have a problem with security checks of lesser government representatives, but I'd have expected that a PRIME MINISTER would've been accorded more respect, regardless of the dysfunctional state of the country.
Tell me where I said something that would allow others to avoid security checks?

Bet your life that the first jobsworth who attempts to conduct a security screening on the US President will be shot by his Secret Service agents!

Security.

Was the PM travelling on official business having informed the Australian authorities of his VIP status, or was he travelling as just Sir Mike, a common passenger? There is a wee difference.
