There's a news item on the BBC with Ukrainian forces claiming a lack of ammo on the front. Hmm, not sure what to make of that. If true it wouldn's seem prudent to make the fact known.

The saving of Ukrainian ATGW's is also desirable, as is the removal of the CO2 that the T-90's emit in running away from Ukrainian defenders and when they enter the turret toss competition, the CO2 emissions from the SSTO attempts is mitigated. All in all a win-win. Now, if Ukraine wanted to cause more havoc, they should offer additional rewards for more engines from the KAMAZ, Armata and other sundry items, including Su-25, Su-35 engines, or at least their compressor blades, they can be mailed to Kyiv... Firing pins would suffice. |
Xi has seen the poor performance of the ‘mighty’ Russian army and finally called Zelenskiyy, acknowledging the emerging reality that China will need to be ready to deal with Ukraine because they actually might win this thing.

It has been reported that two Russian Tu-160 nuclear bombers, known as White Swans, were seen skimming UK airspace, accompanied by a MiG-31 fighter, in a 14-hour mission. |
Some more on Dave the evacuation driver.

GAME CHANGER!!!!
if you don’t have a Russian passport and are in occupied Ukraine you will be jailed and or deported starting 1 july 2024, most will not qualify for citizenship. From reports, deportations have started, but this makes it official. |
Interesting take on the new Russian 'Armata' tanks:
Russia Finally Sends T-14 Armata Tanks to Ukraine « Lawrence Person's BattleSwarm Blog Seems they will still have the turret altitude competition, but this time the crew will have a chance to survive: The T-14 tank has an unmanned turret, with crew remotely controlling the armaments from “an isolated armoured capsule located in the front of the hull.” |
Looks like a video of the use of Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS) by 🇺🇦. APKWS has a semi-active laser guidance system and is a modified 70-mm Hydra 70 unguided missile. Judging by the landscape, it is used somewhere in the Kherson region.

A Ukrainian pilot explaining why the F16 is the preferred choice over the Mirage or Eurofighter, and interesting comment on the Eurofighter that has to have relevance to the U.K. and fellow operators is he does not think that in use in Ukraine the supply of spares would be able to keep up with the demands the Ukrainian airforce would require in combat. That does not bode well f we ever come up against a similar adversary.

Perhaps some good can come out of this clusterf:mad: if it can both rid us of the curse of Putin, and leave us properly prepared for the next despot that decides they want to expand their empire... |

Hopefully this is all being carefully monitored and studied by the military planner types in all the "western" countries. It's already been demonstrated that our reserves of various munitions are seriously lacking.

Freedom is not free. If the west wants to safeguard it's borders from the neo-empire egos such as Putin has shown himself to be, then adequate capability needs to be available to meet a rapidly escalating risk, and arguably, even the USA is falling down on that score. At a time that China is adding more carriers and blue water capability, the US response is to scrap 2 of their well proven carriers. Right now, that should be reconsidered. I understand that the maintenance cycle and refuelling will be a factor in that decision, but it is time that the refuelling was conducted as a modular system to permit rapid return to service of these fleet assets. Hulls loose thickness over time, but these ships are still young. |
Would be interested in Karaya's thoughts on F18 as another option. This was posted on the old version of this thread:
