Israel now mounting CAPs over Tehran, and presumably elsewhere, taking out IRGC and other security forces on an opportunity basis...

BREAKING: Israeli Defense Minister Katz says that for the first time, Israeli jets are flying continuously over Tehran, carrying out major strikes on regime and security targets approved by Netanyahu. He says nonstop air operations will now continue against key targets in the Iranian capital.

ORAC 1st March 2026 12:15

Israeli Air Force strikes that hit Tehran this morning targeted a complex the IDF described as the “headquarters of the terror regime.”

The site was later identified as the Sarallah Headquarters, the security crisis management command center of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Tehran.

Operating under the authority of the IRGC General Command, Sarallah Headquarters is responsible for overseeing security in the capital and across Tehran Province. This headquarters is one of the IRGC’s primary security commands.

In times of crisis, it is tasked with ensuring the security of Tehran, as directed by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. During such situations, the national Security Command, government ministries, and IRGC and Basij units in Tehran fall under its operational control.

It seems my suspicions of B2 involvement last night have finally been confirmed

At last, I can confirm that overnight a flight of 4 B-2A "Spirit" bombers flew non-stop from the United States to Iran to attack targets belonging to the regime.

Iran's IRGC and state media claim they fired 4 ballistic missiles at USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea today, as "retaliation" in "Operation True Promise 4" in retaliation for US-Israel strikes on Iran.

Unverified by US CENTCOM, Navy, or any independent outlet—no damage reports. The carrier is operating in the area, launching strikes and defending against Iranian barrages.

dead_pan 1st March 2026 13:36

Do these missiles have terminal guidance, or are they indeed just ballistic? If the latter there's little likelihood they'd hit a moving target.

gums 1st March 2026 13:54

Salute!

My unnerstaning is one of the newer PLA anti-ship "ballistic" weapons has a terminal guidance kit of some sort, and the Iranian folks seem to buy stuff from that source. So it's not out of the realm.
OTOH some of the U.S. 'theater" defense systems have a decent near-exo atmosphere intercept capability vs low numbers of an attack salvo. And then there's the closer engagements by systems such as Patriot, et al.

Gums postulates...

CENTCOM reporting 3 US servicemen KIA, plus a number seriously wounded. No information on circumstances.

Depends how much you believe:

Iran’s Evolving Missile and Drone Threat

Pages 7/8.

….”Iran has adapted the Fateh SRBM family into anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) like the Khalij Fars, Hormuz-2, and Zolfaghar Basir. Though unproven in combat, these systems incorporate maneuverability and terminal guidance features designed to strike moving naval targets in the confined waters of the Gulf and adjacent shipping lanes.”

Lets look at this in focus. Trump has just spent zillions and an entire battle fleet to defeat a minor irritation, destabilise the region and create a void to be filled by who knows what, meanwhile he puts his arm around Putin while Putin attempts to destroy a European country.
Madness.

Iranian media has confirmed former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed in the Israeli airstrikes yesterday.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad served as the president of Iran from 2005 to 2013. He was known as a radical conservative and supporter of anti-Western policies, often expressing extreme hatred towards Israel.

Seems to be the ship hit in harbour on fire in a previous post*, now confirmed sunk.

Old footage of the ship

The United States confirmed the destruction of Jamaran, an Iranian destroyer.

US CENTCOM said that the ship is currently sinking at the bottom of the Gulf of Oman.

This destroyer was one of the best in the Iranian Navy.

Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRIS_Jamaran_(76)

Jamaran was the lead ship of the IranianMoudge-class frigate launched in early 2010 in Bandar-e-Abbas, Iran. Iran has stated that the design and building of Jamaran was among the greatest achievements of the Iranian Navy and the ship's launch marks a major technological leap for Iran's naval industries.”….

CENTCOM:

An Iranian Jamaran-class corvette was struck by U.S. forces during the start of Operation Epic Fury.

The ship is currently sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman at a Chah Bahar pier.

As the President said, members of Iran’s armed forces, IRGC and police “must lay down your weapons.” Abandon ship.

The nations who have allied with, or allowed basing rights to, the US have been shown in the last couple of days that such assistance has a cost. I think Iran will keep making that point with their missiles.

You live in interesting times.

I don't see why people are giving ORAC a bunch of guff for posting information as it becomes available. It is our own burden to consider each source. I think most of us are up to that modest challenge.

Israel is doing the heavy lifting with a continuous stream of bombing missions over Iran, especially Tehran, but the US is providing the essential AAR support.

Back at it again with those Yetis! #FreeIran!

--- Operation LION & SUN / ROARING LION / EPIC FURY ---

Tankers from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport (LLBG) launching again for afternoon operations supporting strikes on Iran. Visible here are:

KC-46A "YETI12" 18-46054
#AE5FA1
KC-46A "YETI13" 18-46047 #AE5F9A
KC-46A "YETI21" 18-46053 #AE5FA0
KC-46A "YETI22" 16-46015 #AE5BC0

Presently I have a total of 23 tankers identified operating out of Ben Gurion regularly.
