It would be a very lucky shot to land at the front door of an American owned hotel on a narrow strip of sand. It could happen by accident but the odds of it being unguided and landing in the water were far greater. A mile to the east and it would have made a hole on the island belonging to a friend's boss. The owner of that strip of land drives a car with the number plate "1" and he would have taken it somewhat personally. Now that would have been really awkward.

There will be a retaliation. Iran won't know when or even what it was i.e. sometime things just happen.

Edit : just saw DXB got hit. I posted a few days ago that the mentality at play is that the action is more important than the consequence. That is unfortunately coming home to roost. The Iran regime will be hunted down for as long as it takes.

Why do they bother?

They don't recognise the UN or any international norm.

Just as a reminder, according to the NYT and after the last attack, the regime already had succession plans in place in case of a decapitation attack.
