We are definitely still not doing enough for Ukraine. I'm fed up with Putin targeting civilians. Enough is enough. It's time for western politicians to show some balls and give Ukraine what it needs to pulverize the Russian forces. And whatever the initial consequences we need to give Putin a clear message!

Whatever the Ukrainians are asking for in weapons and munitions we need to exceed this request. Russia is getting away with war crime after war crime. It is now or never.

Well said Rhino. I'm not really a believer in new year brings new changes, BUT in this instance let's all hope that it does and quickly.

Does it matter who is resposible for the alleged fireworks? Or who Russians believe to be resposible? Any set of bangs will increase the stampede to the exits.
My wish for New Year?

An end to hostilities that will satisfy Ukr, and will enable the Bear to join the civilised world in 50 years time.

There have been multiple explosions around here over the last hour and my pal says all over London too.
I wouldn't put much political score by them.

Looool... Probably just New Year fireworks celebrations in Russia "interpreted" as explosions in major cities.

Having had a few sherbert’s tonight to celebrate in the New Year, I bare a thought for those guys and gals standing watch in a frozen wasteland in Ukraine, under fire and constant shelling, while the rest of the world celebrates in the freedom they are fighting to protect FOR ALL OF US…

My hopes, wishes and prayers go out to you all to stay safe and warm and hope that 2023 will bring you the freedom and peace you so richly deserve, that your families will be reunited and will prosper in a free Ukraine as a member of the European Union and of NATO you so richly aim for and deserve.

An expression of frustration expressed here before many times and sadly I see no sign of things changing. Too much self interest and short termism, which leads to hard won lessons from the past being either ignored or not recognised.

Indeed. It wasn't until the fireworks started where I am, 2 hours later than Moscow time, that I realised what it must have been. Pity though! :E

My sentiments too Nutty and I said as much to all I sent my New Year wishes too. I had no interest in celebrating this year!

Thinking also of the poor Russian troops who are also suffering and dying at the sole behest of their mad leader !

Goes with or without saying, but fully agreed.

Tens of thousands of the first flush were not actually ethnic 'Russians' but all of them were and their successors now are exposed to merciless crushing under the giant wheels of this hellish machine, which advances with some lofty Putinesque logic, the logic of savage, pre-modern, primeval war.

Those poor Russian troops you mention, have had plenty of time to defect, surrender, cross the border, reject orders, desert, scarper.
They haven't.
They have continued this war because they are dumb, murderous self righteous bar-stewards who believe the manure they are being fed and Russia is the great empire under threat.

I personally hope to a man they are ploughed into the fields of Ukraine by the HIMARS, MLRS, AS90 and the APCs and Tanks the West now surely need to give.

I second that, and would make a special mention of the Wagner thugs - surely Putin's version of the SS.
