I very much look forward to recruitment figures improving over the next year or so, if woke youngsters have been waiting for the RAF to become more fluffy before signing on the bottom line.

I also away the results of the next Continuous Attitude Survey, which should show an improvement in leadership scores, as the Board focuses on key improvements to retain personnel.

Unfortunately I suspect that no such improvements will materialise. Still, what do I know?! I’ve been out for 6 years.

And no problem for new recruits getting GCSE "O" level maths, either., with the pass mark being 18%.

Time was when you needed better qualifications to get in as an Apprentice than you did to join as a pilot.

When I was in I met quite a few pilots who were ex-apprentices.

Obviously, over qualified for their current employment 😉

Yes I realise my statement is a direct contradiction. Are you now getting annoyed by the fact that I’m getting annoyed about people getting annoyed about stuff?

Some of us actually care about standards, the continuity of aviation training and the woeful alterations to established terminology all in the cause of 'Cultural Revolution'. If you don't care, that's on you.

Should the cockpit be referred to as the Box Office, or is that also sexist - I guess it is.

No more Flaps then, or HP cocks, or Knobs in the cockpit. Sad times
Not sad times, you have just made this up to suit your own agenda!

Peoplage, Personage, Humanage? Personally, I think the Air Staff have too easily allowed themselves to be caught up in a cultural blip which likely wil not last, it will reverse and become an irrelevance. Then there'll be a review of where the RAF will have ended up by cravenly swallowing all this radical liberal nonsense. The military establishment, quite rightly, used to oppose such cultural challenges in times gone by. If they hadn't, I suppose Indian headbands, Kaftans and Backside length hair would have become de rigour, along with smoking Hash and endulging in Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, more than 50 years ago.

Manage is fine, it comes from menage and was originally to with horses, not men.

pr00ne, I thank you for your enlightening and intriguing comment. Perhaps you would care to elaborate as I am at something of a loss. You clearly possess psychic powers in that you believe you know if I was told something over 30 years ago when you have no idea who I am (I was incidentally, your post is 100% incorrect). That said, of more interest to me is your statement that I am trying to 'suit my own agenda'. This has me waiting in childish anticipation as I was not aware that I have an agenda, so please do me the honour of telling me what my agenda is if you would be so kind? Oh, and whilst you are using your unworldly powers to tell me what I am thinking, I wonder if you would do me a favour and let me know what my wife wants for Christmas - I am proper stuck for ideas. Cheers mate.

Yours

Lucy

I thought that the equine etymological root you mention was 'manege' and that the managerial root was 'menage'.
English is wonderful.

I am in the process of moving house and hanging my commissioning scrolls from, 1962 and 1998, in the traditional " small room"
I read In part, they both say, "to exercise and well discipline in their duties such Officers, Airmen and Airwomen as may be placed under your orders
from time to time"

Has this been changed? I am intrigued to learn of the linguistic gymnastics required to cover the multitudes of genders, pluralities, teapots, jedi knights etc.
Anybody know the current state of play?

True, be what you want to be. But it helps if other people/entities know what you want to be.
My question was, what does the Commissioning Scroll say these days?

Ha'porth. Lovely word. Out of sight to my adult grandchildren, like thrupenny bit, tanner, bob, tosheroon, florin, half a crown, quid.
I use such little cash now that I stare at change in shrapnel / icketts, wondering what they all mean.

Tosheroon is new to me, but you don't mention an Oxford - Oxford scholar, half a dollar.
