The SA government is desperately digging for a legal loophole that would allow them to avoid having to execute the ICC arrest warrant. Most likely Iran will allow his aircraft to transit their airspace to the Indian Ocean where he will be in international airspace the rest of the way to South Africa.
If his aircraft has a problem that requires a diversion, he might find himself on the way to The Hague.
Or some Iranian Buk operator might have an itchy trigger finger

Referring to the strategic importance of Bakhmut, I heard a piece on the BBC R4 news where a military expert was asked about it. He said it, it was of comparatively minor value in itself and, if anything, it was of more value if you were going East than if you were going West on account of the lie of the land and the potential objectives.
But, in a war, how often do you have the luxury of knowing exactly where the enemy will attack and that this enemy won't be able to abandon the objective? One should milk it for all its worth. Of strategic importance was destroying the horde of 40k armed - such as they were - convicts, and this had to be faced somewhere. The professionalism of russian army regulars can be bad enough, already.
Meanwhile, to the imperial russia sympathizers and its apologists on this forum: enjoy your newly "liberated" 41.6 km^2 of scorched rubble. For a time, at least.

Far from wanting to weaken NATO, your country has done more than anyone in the last 50 years to bring NATO together, strengthen it and increase spending on both growth and weaponry. So thank you, your country has put NATO on a stronger footing than it ever was and ensured our safety through a combined and stronger self defence partnership..
I think they have just about guaranteed that happening along with joining the EU, far from trying to wreck it, they have bolstered the process and more or less guaranteed the inclusion of both Sweden and Finland into NATO as well.

Everyone can argue till the cows come home about what's "right" and what's "wrong," but since such labels fail to control what happens, it's largely a waste of time.
To help get things back on track, a bit more detail on how the US got to the point of endorsing F16s for Ukraine:

Not so brave and spouting her bile, now she realises that her actions have consequences.
The pictured driving the captured IFV in Belgorad is allegedly this guy. Former FSB

Is there any consensus on what's going on in Belgorod? Is it:
A. What they say at face value (that would be a first!)
B. They are genuine pro-Ukraine/anti-Putin Russians (an attempted uprising)
C. They are local Ukrainians posing as anti-Putin Russians (to destabilise Russia by instigating belief that an attempted uprising exists)
D. They are Pro-Putin Russians posing as Ukrainians posing as anti-Putin Russians (a false flag attempt to claim Ukraine is covertly invading Russia)
E, F, G etc? The possibilities seem endless.
