RN Exit button works ..
The early departure button works for the RN, or so I have been 'reliably' informed.
Put my notice in, 18 months of to suit my timetable. Confirmation from PMA after 6 weeks.
If you keep a copy of the paperwork go to edumication and start the resetlement process, you should be able to do the interviews and workshops but maybe not spend allowances until you get the exit date confirmed.
Allegedly a unit had been sitting on a 'stack' of PVRs and sent them through in a wadge (scientific term for a mass of unknown quantity).

On the negative side, the RAF are looking for a wide range of talents and abilities but pilot aptitude scores achieved in their various tests outweigh any practical flying experience.
On the positive side, if you like to fly and can either afford it or be sponsored, get your PPL.
It will clarify in your own mind whether a flying career is for you, and, more importantly it's great fun.

There is absolutely no requirement to have attended public school before joining the RAF.

Get your PPL and if you decide to join the RAF, make a point of telling them how lucky they are to get you.

CG, I was also a grammar school oik, so alternatively I could be living proof that there could be no hope for him either!
I did try to cut me crusts off, though.

Whilst, thankfully the grammar queens have been quiet on the PPRUNE forum for a while perhaps you should have checked your first post against something like MS Office or a dictionary or a thesaurus before posting bad English - next you'll be posting ridiculously long sentences without breaks or clauses or good spelling - you could be sentenced to PPrune ridicule.
If you do all of the above, the effect might just affect your chances of passing RAF pilot selection!

I sure was!:P But then I didnt know how to post on the sticky thread either (mostly because back then a sticky thread was something spiders used to catch things with but probably wouldnt have supported a whole sheet of paper...) (perhaps airmail paper? anyone have a handy web to trial it for me? Is too cold to support life in my current location...)

Try phoning your desk SNCO to make sure they have seen your form and processed thro the PMA7 staff. Sometimes (trust me I know), the Stn does not process the PVR application very quickly; however, it is the date stamp from PSF on the front of the form that matters - that is when the clock starts ticking. Good luck - but if you have any problems get your WO PSF or equivalent to chase for you.

You will soon have a date and at present the PVR rates are under scrutiny at and very much a hot topic politically. If you have made the decision to go then you have a right to fair treatment, there is talk of PVR waiting times being extended across the board at the moment to 24 months so it may be important to get a date sooner rather than later.
Jolly good question; possibly because of the military's habit of using TLAs and other abbrvs without any "."'s, which spilled over into common usage for people writing about the Service. Perhaps it's because it is common practice to abbrv organisation name without punctuation, eg (in descending order of importance) the RFU, the MOD, the UN. Whatever the reason, it's the way the Concise Oxford lists it and that's good enough for staff work.
I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could

It is not just the MOD that does not punctuate abbreviations. This is now common practice in business.
Similarly addresses no longer have commas at the end of each line. Saves an awful lot of typing time.

While I'm on a roll, I'll ask a couple of supplementary questions concerning TLAs that come up a lot - PVR is, as far as I'm aware, Gustavo Diaz Ordaz airport in Mexico, and since I don't think people are actually talking about retiring to south america, I'm going to guess it stands for "premature voluntary retirement" or something like that.
JPA... well military Js tend to stand for Joint, but the rest of it stumps me. To Google these things is to be drawn into the hideous realisation of how many things one TLA could possibly stand for.

AAC Aptitude
Hi,
Apologies for yet another aptitude thread - I know there have been thousands, but I can't quite find what I'm after with the search.
I'm off to Cranwell shortly to do the medical, aptitude and all that, and was wondering about the actual tests. From various posts, I have gleaned what they all are - however it seems to me that the AAC don't necessarily do them all - and somone I spoke to, who did them a while back said that the only ones he did were:
Hold the dot in the centre using just the joystick
Hold the dot in the centre both joystick and rudder pedals
Reading the instrument panel thingie
Digit recall
And that the crazy memory overload ones with moving colours, maths things and so on were left out - and there was no formal maths test - is this really the case???
Cheers,
Rock
