Quite simple really, if you have less than the direct entry hours you have to do an approved course, eg if you had a 1000hrs they would still make you do the full course in Aus plus the 120+ line training sectors.

ekpilot 14th Dec 2007 20:46

Allowances are never enough anywhere on the network Unless you stay in the hotel and get the discount. Isn't it the simple truth? And by principle $6US is an insult don't you agree? Better give me nothing. Then I can really say how cheap you really are. Better than giving me $6US and try to justify that it is enough. I don't buy it. Just plain cheap to pay anyone $6US for a night stop anywhere. Call a spade a spade! :)

brassplate 14th Dec 2007 20:52

rumours rife that the australian and south african mafia runs recruiting. if you're not from either place (or white....(gulp, risking being politically incorrect!), you need all the luck you can get.

Vision Requirements

I found out an answer to my question about Emirates uncorrected vision requirement. Your prescription must be better than -5 Diopters. Thats determined by taking your spherical prescription say -3.25 for instance and adding half of your astigmatism. So if you also had a -1 astigmatism, your overall prescription would be -3.75 Diopters. They do allow Lasik, but it must have been performed more than 12 months from when you do your company medical exam.

I did the new version of the selection process about three weeks ago and still waiting for the final answer.
sim last day if successful.tech quiz is most focused on high altitude jets and swept wings.
math not really an issue and this new compass test is not so complicated and is self explaining, the key point is you just need concentration.
one test is on your movements coordination(joystick to follow the FD+speed control+rudder movements all together)
second exercise:orientation with basics nav based on bearings, with a kind of ADF,headings and so on.

ekpilot 15th Dec 2007 14:14

12 hours = 6 us $ = simple

AAIGUY 15th Dec 2007 14:23

I am going for screening this week.

It appears the entire selection process is changed and much has to do with the Advanced Compass test.

I would love to hear from anyone who has screened in the last 2 weeks.

Emirates accomodation

Hi guys,

I am due to start with Emirates in mid January and was wondering if anyone knows where I am likely to be placed as far as villas are cocerned?? I believe silicon oasis are full up???

During the tour they showed us a villa near Jumaira can I assume it will be around there?? Any ideas??

Thanks

Jetkopite:)

EGGW 15th Dec 2007 19:04

The villa you refer to is probably the one in Al Badaa, a glorious neighbourhood :ugh::ugh:Nice neighbours mind in the same villas, just the other muppets that live around that area :yuk:

Your GPS might need re calibrating. The villas in Al Bada are fine. :) It's the compound down towards Al Satwa where the neighbours are on the dodgy side. :uhoh:

harry the cod

do you have any idea where they are placing pilots with families at the moment?? Hope its somewhere nice as this can make or brake my time with emirates as far as the missus is concerened.

Thanks

EGGW 16th Dec 2007 09:40

Harry dude.

Isn't that what i said matey. The EK villa folk are good, but the less salubrious areas of Satwa/Al Badaa definately bring its problems to those villas. Break ins, plus much else.
Jetkopite, its a lottery the house allocation, if its a risk that it might break or make your time here, don't come. However, you may get lucky, toss a coin... http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/sp...smiley-038.gif

Female friends.

If you live with your wife getting the visa for a female is not an issue and yes she can stay with you. If you are married but your wife does not live with you in Dubai or you are single and you want to invite a female friend, lover or whatever to stay with you, there are a couple of things tha you should be aware of. By law you are not allowed to get a "visit" visa for a female unless you are authorize by an immigration officer BUT they always issue the Visa and they don't really ask any questions.

I was a little concerned the first time I requested a Visit visa for my girlfriend, I talked to a female officer in immigration and she said that I was not allowed to bring her over unless authorize by a higher ranking officer. The higher ranking officer was sitting right next to her and he said that it was ok for me to request the visa since I was an EK pilot. The second time I didn't even asked and they issued the visa in 5 minutes.

Don't worry about inviting anybody over for a visit, the visa is very easy to obtain if the passport of you female friend is not on the list of the countrys that requires a visa to enter UAE (if your friend is a USA passport holder She does NOT need to obtain a visa prior to arriving to UAE)

No, it's not what you said. Satwa is not Al Bada. Two different sets of Villas altogether. Your condescending tone of 'good EK pilots' in those villas implies what? Tell me, what are the EK folk like who live in the more salubrious areas such as Jumeriah or the Marina or wherever you consider are 'the' addresses to have? Numpty!

Also not sure of your info regarding break-ins. There were some, however, here at SO and that's WITH security and in a compound.

Harry

EGGW 17th Dec 2007 18:05

Harry,

Take it easy there fella. Nothing mean or condescending meant to those Al Badaa folks, i have many great friends down there.
But the fact IS, there has been break-ins and in those villas and other incidents , fact.

:ok::ok:
