Some break ins occured over 4 years ago and, if I recall, were a job lot just after pilots moved in. 12-15 Villas in the same one night and using keys so guess who was the prime suspect. Many had stolen items returned but this was in the Al Bada area. There have been no break ins since and none in Satwa. Only the recent few at Silicon Oasis. Fact. :)

You still havn't revealed your own 'salubrious' address yet. Oh, hang on a minute, there's a clue in your previous post. ' I have many great friends down there '. So, Jumeriah it is then. :ok:

And there I was thinking it was only the wives who got bitchy over this nonsense. Girls, please stop bickering!

EGGW 18th Dec 2007 03:43

Who said my address was salubrious, you made that up matey. Perhaps i live in the Oasis, and look down on Al Badaa.

By the way there have been break ins during the last 3 years.

Right, thats over, Gents back to normal bickering please :E:E

What's the reality as 2008 approaches ?

Hey everyone,

I have an interview with EK scheduled on the 12th of February. Was going thru a lot of threads here and am keen to know the facts.

I'm a 737NG Captain with 4000 hrs PIC. Almost 8000 hrs TT. If selected, under the accelerated program, how many yrs will I be away from upgrade ? I'm hearing upto 3-4 yrs on this site. Any chances of that shortening, given EKs expansion plans ?

So what is the outlook for `08 ? Will upgrades start occuring at a quicker rate ( maybe 18 months ?) ? Or is that asking for too much ??

Also, in the interview, are you told whether u are entitled to be slotted into the "Accelerated Command" pool ?

Cheers for the New Year everybody !:D

Chofuan, papi,

how is the National Geographic assignment going?

Be careful with the wild game in their natural habitat :)

fatbus 22nd Dec 2007 04:22

If there is not enough 3 year F/O's then they go to the guys how meet the accellerated numbers (18 months), then internal DEC's and then new hire DEC . Looks like about 30 Dec's on the 777 in 2008 and AirBus upgrades might be down to 3 years early 2009. The number of AB Capt's going over to the 777 is down from the first plan, I guess we need them on the Bus, rumour has it that the 380 might be coming a few months early.

Ask them in the interveiw what the upgrade plan would be for you, they should have an answer for you .

mensaboy 22nd Dec 2007 08:27

XIVIL, fatbus says..
''If there is not enough 3 year F/O's then they go to the guys how meet the accellerated numbers (18 months), then internal DEC's and then new hire DEC . Looks like about 30 Dec's on the 777 in 2008 and AirBus upgrades might be down to 3 years early 2009.''

This upgrade policy, is not necessarily followed. The company does as it pleases when it comes to upgrade. The above quote proves my point because if there are lots of 3 year F/O's, which is the case, then why are there 30 DEC's planned for 2008? In addition, the sequence does not necessarily follow that order.

Occasionally accelerated guys have gone ahead of waiting 3 year F/O's which is clearly another unfair diversion from the so-called policy of upgrade here. I don't know why 'internal or new hire DEC's' are even included because obviously they are already here as a Capt. I seriously doubt Airbus upgrades will be down to 3 years in early 2009, although I hope that transpires. The guys I talk to are being told end of 2009.

If you join now and wish to be accelerated, add to your join date the number of F/O's already here 18 months and theoretically you should upgrade after that last F/O. There are a ton of F/O's who will be at or over 3 years within the next 18 months. There are lots of F/O's on the airbus who are well over 3 years already. I used the seniority list for those here before June 06 and came up with over 350 F/O's who will reach 3 years prior to you reaching 18 months if your join date were Jan 08. In other words, you would reach 18 months in July 09 and they would all reach 3 years by July 09. Give or take 50 out of those 350 F/O's for various reasons.

During the interview they WILL tell you if you qualify for accelerated, but they WILL NOT say if that is the plan for you. They simply don't know themselves.

If I were you and interested in EK, I would EXPECT 3-4 years and if it happened earlier, then good for you. 3-4 years here zip by in a heartbeat by the way.
Hope that helps.
ps. how does one separate paragraphs? Mine all scrunch together after I post.

XIVIL4DEP 22nd Dec 2007 11:11

Thanks for the info ! Really helpful

Mensaboy and Fatbus,

Thanks a ton for the info gentlemen ! It was really helpful and has helped me come to a clear conclusion.

If selected after the interview, and if I take the offer from them, it looks like 3-4 yrs on the RHS once again ! And as Mensaboy says, one should come to DXB mentally prepared for that and hope for the best !

Regards,

Xivil:):)

fatbus 22nd Dec 2007 12:06

mensa,

The 30 DEC,s 2008 are for the 777, not enough 3 year FO's to cover off all the upgrades. Close to 275 upgrades. But the upgrades will slow alittle 4 years +

Air Bus upgrade jan 09 filled by guys hired dec 05 ( 3 years 1 month)and that is an old list most guys are mving forward 2-3 months

Mensaboy

Use the key that has the vertical line down with the 90 degree arrow to the left (buggered if I know its proper name). Position the blinking cursor at the end of the last sentence before starting a new paragraph and hit this key. Bingo, no scrunching. I'll be watching closely from now on so no excuses!

Happy Christmas,

Harry

Any news about the new selection format and this Advanced Compass testing?

Many thanks.

Guns-A-GoGo 25th Dec 2007 15:31

If there is changes to the current system, I suppose the whole thing is changing. How about the time frame between the initial short list to an invitation to Dubai for the 3 day?

thanks in advance,

I heard a story of a friend's friend who was hired by Emirates, started training...they found out that his mother was a Jew and fired him on the spot for being a half-jew. Is there any truth to this, do you think? I was under the impression that Dubai and Emirates were quite accepting of other religions. Perhaps there is an exception for the Israelis? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Jew vs Israeli

Jews are welcome here, Israelis are not (or anything made in Israel!). There is at least 1 jewish pilot that I know of here in the UAE. So if you are dual citizen, keep your Israeli passport out of here...

Avpilot 27th Dec 2007 23:28

Wow. Ok. I am neither a Jew nor an Israeli, but I am rather surprised by the company's stance on this. It's rather sad that we can't be more accepting of each other than that.

LOOKUP 27th Dec 2007 23:39

Ah, ok, thats it? well thats not so bad . . .

I would not like to be in any place where ancient ways of thinking are dominant. :ugh:

Dual citizenship or not, one must never hide who he is or what he is. It is only a job for god sakes and if it had reached the level of hiding ones roots... I was hoping that a company with international characteristics such as an Airline with educated people would have the abilities to see beyond that . . . what happened to a simple sim ride? Now its about ones passport? Tell you what, if that's the way it is, F**K it.

I mean if that's the way it goes, lets take it all out, how about Moroccans in France, "Afro Americans" in the US, Turks in the NL, Irish in England, Germans in Israel, Quietist in Iraq, Serbs in the EU, what else? :yuk:

Its one thing if two countries are in war between themselves but that's all politics, how the hell has it penetrated the privet sector and it seems OK??

It almost sounds nice of them to only fire that Jewish pilot and not to have sent him on a train somewhere . . . this whole behavior sounds too familiar to me. .

LOOKUP 27th Dec 2007 23:51

Made in IL ??? you must be joking...

You better check very good what is and what isn't made in Israel before you make such ignorant remarks or you'll find yourself back in the Dark Age.

The fact you are typing on a computer now my narrow minded friend in it self has a lot to do with "made in Israel". . Or how about that modern AC you are flying? You think filthy Israeli hands and minds had nothing to do with its creation? **** he?

So maybe you are right and you do belong, along with you opinions, back in the Stone Age where you had nothing made in Israel.

Unbelievable. And this comes from so called educated people.

Don't get me wrong, there is no personal tone here as I have no idea what your personal believes are but as this is the company's attitude . .well . . .

chofuan 28th Dec 2007 09:41

Don't really know

There are so many nationalities in EK that I don't think that would be an issue here. I don't know about the incident.

MR8 28th Dec 2007 10:12

Lots of BS

Don't believe the incident, must be a wind up.

If the guy had an Israeli passport, he couldn't get into the country for his interview in the first place.

If ever such a thing happened, the only thing I can think of is that his residence visa might have been denied for maybe having an Israeli citizenship. But again, that's only extreme wild guessing.. I am very sure however that EK as a company does not care about your race, nationality and since not so long ago your gender...

Avpilot 28th Dec 2007 14:30

Here's a little more info about what I believe happened. First of all, he has a US passport and I'm not certain if he is in fact an Isreali. This is a friend of a friend of a friend, basically. He and I are both Captains at ExpressJet in the US. The way the story goes, he got hired there until they found out that his mother is an Isreali Jew, not even him. So, basically, he is half-isreali and half-jew. Then they fired him.

Luckily, he had been gone only a few days from XJT and they brought him back in with his previous seniority/pay, etc. He had been here for 7 or 8 years, from what I understand..so he was very lucky to get his job back without starting over.
