Jet Time

Sorry vee tail, no jet, no joy

This question was asked at the EK road show in YYZ by someone like yourself with good time but no jet time and they said that despite the high requirement for pilots, the minimums were the minimums. Currently for FO: 4000TT and 2000 Jet (with the ability to be offered an interview when within 500 hours of those minimums.)

Good luck:ok:

Sim Ride

Hi there,

I have my interview coming up this month and was wondering if anyone would know how EK determines which SIM you will ride in during your interview? Does it depend on availability and/or experience?

777, 310, or 330

Thanks in advance.

tbaylx 8th Feb 2008 08:53

Lucid,

They try and put you in a sim similar to the type you are currently flying. It could be 330, 310 or 777.

Lucid 8th Feb 2008 08:56

thanks..but what if your flying a global express, gulfstream, or legacy... with glass cockpits.

Regards.

You don't need jet time, just multi crew time, at least 2000hrs and 4000hrs Total time and you need ATP or ATPL.

Schnowzer 9th Feb 2008 12:40

http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com

Aminimum of 4,000 hours total flying time
A minimum of 2,000 hours multi-crew, multi-engined jet aircraft experience
ICAO ATPL
English language fluency (written and verbal comprehension)
Experience commensurate with age
Type rated would be advantageous

chofuan 9th Feb 2008 12:43

CRM and cockpit management more than anything else. Your flying skills are not as important as the way you work in a multicrew enviroment. It is a new aircraft and the know. Be prepare, relax and make sure you brief, brief, brief...

mini cooper 10th Feb 2008 17:38

I was going to post all sorts of helpful information about what to ask about at the interview, but then we received an e-mail / post from management about changes to our bidding system. This has worked fine for years, but now they change it fundamentally with no recourse by us. So I thought if you are that desperate to join after reading what has been posted on pprune http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=312557 then you won't listen anyway!! Yes you may pass the interview, but once here you have no rights, conditions of contract will change by the whim of management.
In summary I have never seen or heard of a company which is making a profit, expanding its network, getting new aircraft have such low crew morale (both cabin crew and flight crew). It gets worse by the minute. Do yourself a favour, unless it is vitally important that you come to EK now, stay away for now. I've been here for years and i wish I had never come in the first place. If you do come you will always hope/think that things will change for the better, believe me it hasn't got better, it will not get better.

So my interview advice again, ask lots of questions about the issues we all write about here, then if you if you are still desperate go ahead - but you will still regret it.
Sorry not what all you guys want to hear, but better said now than said later.:=

Good Luck on Feb 12th

You replied below to my earlier question but I've changed my login name to airman7.
Kick ass on the interview.

Hi Airman737,
Well, I leave for DXB on Friday & the interview starts on Tuesday the 12th. I'm a little under-prepared for this whole advance compass testing which happens on Day 1 in the afternoon. Apparently it's some European JAA test whch they follow & is supposed to be a comprehensive skills and aptitude test. Lets see how it goes.
The interview should be ok, but I am definitely going to ask them about my chances of getting an accelerated command upgrade. Coz I have 4000 PIC on the 737 NG. So I hope thats good enough for them ! Did they really tell you 6 months ? I've heard it's a min. of 18 months on the right seat and even then the upgrade is subject to there being no available senior FOs on the type who have all the required experience ! So, basically this whole accelerated command business at EK seems a bit like a lottery to me ;)
I'll get back to you on the 16th or so when it's all done and let you know how it all went
Cheers pal.:)

---Quote (Originally by theairman737)--- Hello,

I read your post and I'm in the same boat as far as I'm a current B737 captain with 6800+ in type and 14,000+TT and a scheduled EK interview during the third week of March. I would be interested to hear what your experience is during the interview and what they tell you about the accelerated command opportunity.

I was told during the prelim interview in SFO that due to no heavy time in my career a DEC would only be an outside possibility but the accelerated upgrade would be no problem. They said the upgrade in that case can come anywhere from 6-18 months.

Best of Luck and I hope to hear from you.:ok:

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else has some more information on this new compass test that they have added into the process..Does anyone have more information on what sort of stuff i should be looking at?

Interesting that they have included this new barrage of tests considering that EK is going to find it hard to get the 500-600 guys they need this year. Wonder what the though process was!!!!

cheers

theidler 12th Feb 2008 16:22

Accelerated Command??

Let's do some number crunching.

1000 F/Os at EK right now.
More than 60 have been here 4 years or more.
From the end 2008 2 aircraft arriving a month.
10 upgrades per aircraft (optimistically with ULH).
So in the next 4 years that'll be 960 upgrades (again optimistically).
Factor in around 50 (maybe) Direct Entry Captains (DECs) each year.

That'll be, let's see, 5 and a bit years to command for someone joining in 2008.

Accelerating is only used if none of the 1000+ F/Os are eligible for command.

Remember, every negative comment posted on this site came from someone who joined EK thinking that they had hit the jackpot.

BYMONEK 12th Feb 2008 16:39

If we're to believe all the doom and gloom that's written here, havn't you forgotten the hundreds of resignations that will occur within the next 12-18months?

theidler 12th Feb 2008 17:17

Yeah, I'd forgotten.

airman7 is undoubtedly correct in thinking that all eligible EK F/Os will be upgraded in 6-18 months as apparently advertised by EKs recruiters.
