Anyone else get this? Was scheduled for an interview next week....

With reference to your application for a First Officer position with Emirates Airline, we regret to inform you that at this stage we are placing on hold your invitation to attend our selection programme in Dubai that we had scheduled for you. We are prioritising for invite those applicants whose aircraft type experience most closely matches our fleet at Emirates and whilst we understand this will be disappointing for you, we hope to be able to invite you again to Dubai at some stage in the future.
We thank you for your understanding and interest in a career with Emirates and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Kind regards,
Kathryn Ferguson

Ya, thats the way they roll alright.

I'm guessing they had a flood of applications from the
shutting down of SkyService. Lots of 757 and 767 drivers
in that bunch.

Most airlines works on the idea of "hire the person, train the pilot"

I guess they see it differently

Translation:

"We thought we're so f@cked that we had to interview you; luckily some crap airline somewhere layed of a bunch of guys with better experience than you, so we’re going to interview them first."

So you think that they're going to treat you any better once you sign on the dotted line?

alexm320 31st May 2010 05:53

CR9,

Whats your current aircraft type and experience?

They call me last wee to see if I can attend the interview on june or july, I said yes, so they told me to wait for an e mail, but it's been 10 days since the call and no further news or mail.

Cheers

as this is a great source of information, and i expect alot of :dont do it:,anyone done the 4 day assessment recently, all comments would be appreciated,i am on my way in june.....

camelhunchback 3rd Jun 2010 11:39

well clear the tower

I do hope you have about 2500h minimum on 737 or equivalent. Otherwise be prepared to get turned down and get screwed over :ouch:
The new requirement: 2500h on modern jet is a farce. What they don´t tell you is that in their eyes a modern jet is a 737, A320 or bigger!
If you do have these hours, good luck and be prepared to get screwed over somewhere down the road :ok:

Cheers!

Given a list of dates in June, but after reading and re reading this forum a few times, i have decided to say NO.
I dont think that my dream of flying a widebody is worth risking my family.

Thanks to all of you within EK who have contributed to this forum.

Best of luck to those who need the job.

Guys....how does a formal job offer come?? I have been interviewed last week and made it all the way through. The doc gave me the nod that my medical seemed fine and my references have been contacted. Know this cause my Chief Pilot let me know. Email or a call?
Cheers :ok:

atpcliff 6th Jun 2010 15:28

Hi!

good luck to the guys who go to EK, and the ones who choose not to. Hope it works out great for all!

Read on another thread that 10 RJ capts from Pinnacle interviewing soon/have interviewed already. The international hiring of US guys is really helping out the job situation in the US.

PGA 8th Jun 2010 20:47

hi guys,

Quick question regarding the EK process.

Do you need the logbook signed/stamped before the interview, or can you do this afterwards? My logbook is all in order, however I don't really fancy asking my manager to write a little letter to confirm my entries, simply since I fear this might have an adverse affect on my career.

Secondly, the references you all have used, are they really `management` or are former base captains / guys high up in training etc enough?

Thanks for the input!

PilatusDriver 9th Jun 2010 07:16

Leave of absence

Hello all,

With the recent announcement concerning an increase in aircraft in the EK fleet has there been any talk about changing the Leave of absence/furlough policy when joining Emirates?

I understand that they are currently quite short on qualified candidates to join the company, and removing the need to completely resign from your current company to join EK might just allow them to have enough pilots to fly the airplanes they have, even if it is for a three or five year period.

Cheers.

Oblaaspop 9th Jun 2010 09:02

PD, why would any MAJOR Airline want to go through the trouble and investment of recruiting Pilots only to knowingly have them 'Bugger Off' after a short period of time??

Think about it buddy, United wouldn't accept it, so why should EK??:ugh:

Busbar 9th Jun 2010 15:47

Just a quick question:

During the panel interview I read that you are asked to give examples of certain things such as:

1) Tell us about a time when..........?

Can anyone expand on this a bit more. Do they ask you to give examples of when you lead a team, or did something that had a positive outcome etc...?

Is it also the standard format of talk about your career, family etc...?

Any help appreciated. Thank you in advance.
:ok:

atpcliff 9th Jun 2010 22:34

Hi!

MOST US airlines higher furloughed pilots. SOME of them require the pilots to resign their seniority, but many do not even do that. They figure that a certain number will stick with them, and those that return will serve for enough time at the new airline to make it worth while.

The current rate of returning off of furlough for the US pilots who have been furloughed long-term is only about 50%. Additionally, EK pilots have to be current with jet time in the past 12 months, so unemployed pilots, or, those furloughed more than about 6 months ago are not elligible for EK.

Can anybody tell me if EK will accept FAA licence?
I have been told that only JAA can apply to all Middle East and India, is it true?
Thanks

Hi

Please anyone give me info about the over all interview process at Emirates. Thanks!

Banzai Eagle 10th Jun 2010 17:33

I had a phone interview for a position within Emirates prior to interview in DXB.
Whilst i've only ever had 1 phone interview before I have to say it was average for the world class airline i thought i was applying to and certainly the questions asked of me wouldn't have gave any indication of my experience / potential. I was asked had i done my home work on DXB. After the initial phone interview I had another from HR and the impression given was that there was no standard salary scale for the job applied for (i.e. i was asked how much i was currently on in the UK and i was advised it would be the same in DXB)
The one that put me off however was accomodation - i may get it if i was lucky and something was available, if not i had to take the allowance (of which i presumed wouldn't cover renting somewhere if i read these posts correctly - and i'm not even a "nigel")

Anyway I appreciate that getting Pilots there is difficult but with the big orders for A380 they need the back stage staff also

Fr8 Dog 11th Jun 2010 04:29

can u try again?

Has anyone here ever heard of anyone who has gone through the whole screening process all the way to the last day and was not offered a job and then two years later was able to reapply and actually got screened again?

I know you can reapply after two years but is it only for those who failed the sim ride during the first attempt or will they give it a go on someone who has failed the interview on the last day?

I tend to believe that if they have seen all they could about you and did not like you, then what is the point to call you back 2 years later?

Any thoughts?

three eighty 11th Jun 2010 05:09

I know you can reapply after two years
I'm not sure which part of the interview they failed but many have reapplied and been succesfull second time around.

Murrenfan 11th Jun 2010 08:30

According to the current policy you can reapply after two years and they will analyze on a case by case basis and depending on why you did not succeed on the first time, you will be given a second chance. Based on the fact that they need to hire 700 pilots for the next 18 months, you have good chances to be called again. Keep updating your application online. Feel free to pm me.
Mfan.

flareflyer 11th Jun 2010 08:49

Good luck to all the new joiners, specially those from Europe......so we may have the chance to get out of here and get back home........:ugh:

Oblaaspop 11th Jun 2010 11:44

SS you are quite correct!

Its NOT an 'interview' on the phone. It was likely an English language check, and perhaps an opportunity to 'clear up' any mistakes/omissions on your application.

Even though you may be from/live in the UK, perhaps you name isn't? Perhaps the 'blurb' you wrote on the application was of a poor standard?

When you are being called for a potential invite for interview, I suggest this is not the time to start discussing the package or accommodation options with the admin staff (there are currently PLENTY of villas and apartments available BTW), as this would actually CONFIRM that you have indeed done bugger all research into EK..... Its ALL clearly stated on the EK career website buddy:ugh:

sheikmyarse 11th Jun 2010 12:04

an appeal to european pilots

Please do apply and go to work for EK. Don't trust a single word of what you read here. Please do it as personal favour to me.
I will more than happy of going to feel the vacancy you will leave back home and get the **** out of this ****hole and of hypocracyairline.
Please get impressed by appearance. So organized..ah ah ah ah!! You will find out how organized they are first time you will have a problem and believe you will have more than one. But still don't trust what I say and come into the desert . You can go skying in SkyDubai... ain't it enough?

taihaola 11th Jun 2010 14:38

Will I be invited to DXB for EK screenig?

I'm also the one who got a phone call 3 weeks ago from EK and after that my status went to " shortlisted" on my web application.
I told him that I would be available in July or August for the screenig and I requested him to let me know the shcedule 1 month before in advance to arrange for the trip to DXB.
But I havn't got any email or call ever since that.
Normally How long do I have to wait to get an invitaton after the call?
Do I still have a possibility to be invited for the screening?
I'm very excited for that.
Thank you for your info !

Banzai Eagle 11th Jun 2010 18:14

Oblaaspop
Indeed exactly as I thought. Problem was the HR lady was insistent in telling me so it was "black and white" but in terms of accomodation it became grey.
Lastly i'm not your buddy

Oblaaspop 11th Jun 2010 19:00

Mate (:E), I used the word 'Buddy' because I didn't feel in the mood to use the word Tw@t.......

Clearly I was wrong!!:}

Hi!

I read the max age was about 48-53, depending on your experince level. There is no PUBLISHED age limit.

ericthewellread 13th Jun 2010 20:43

I received the following from Emirates in early June. Apparently there were unpublished age limits, not on their website. If I had known about their age limits I would not have spent hours filling out their online app & waiting since Jan. 2009 to find out I was too old for FO and the airliner I was Captain on, the Fokker 100, does not weigh enough! :ugh:

Hi!

EK is not hiring DECs NOW...will be sooner rather than later, in my opinion.

They have also been changing/lowering the minimums since they started hiring last year, so if you don't meet the mins later, just wait a bit...

cliff
LFW
PS-The OTHER thing I hate is when an job has published minimums, but then they go and hire pilots who are BELOW the mins!

WhiteFly 14th Jun 2010 07:21

I have been following this topic for a while and would like to bring my thoughts as well...
I applied for them about 1 week ago and got a call from HR today probably to see my english level and ask a few questions.. Also seemed to ask if I could lower the 2 month period for my current airline.
Hopefully I will get shortlisted soon.

I am wondering why is there such a negative atmosphere because when i travelled as a passenger with them all seemed to be at very good standard.
Also i get max 2400 euro in my current airline as a senior F/O so im curious how people can struggle with twice that?

TXpat 15th Jun 2010 06:04

Anyone flying for EK be in Houston anytime soon? I am considering applying and would like to talk to some EK pilots in person about what it is really like. I would be glad to buy you a brew for some good advice.

Thanks Guys

interview

Hey guys,

I am reading this threat, but no one gives really a good information about the interview itself.

So anybody out there, who had his interviews recently and can tell us, what they ask, how the interview looks like and so on.

Really appreciate.

Tks

cheers

Cloud Bunny 15th Jun 2010 13:51

Quick question which kinda leads on from the previous one (sorry to jump in AIRWJO); is the book "Preparing for your Emirates Interview" by X,Y,Z still a good source of prep and information re the process? I think it's in it's 2nd or 3rd edition now and just wondering whether it would be a good plan to pick one up.
Ta muchly for the insights and if there is anymore info anyone could share regarding the process it would much appreciated.

Cheers
CB:p

CAVnotOK 15th Jun 2010 14:34

You really don't need to prepare for this interview.

If you are a competent pilot you will get the job based on the sim assessment........ unless you are socially retarded.

They are desperate beyond belief, have this on good authority from inside recruitment at EK.

Cav.
