Pif Paf, I think it might be more of a generational then a type rating thing. Emirates are recruiting ever younger FOs and some (by no means all, be certainly some) come with a certain Millennial "attitude". (As an example, look at the trouble some of them get themselves into on social media despite being warned about the company line) They are blissfully unaware of what they don't know.
This can be seen in an even more extreme way in the cabin where experienced Pursers and Supervisors report an increasing "you can't tell me what to do" trend with the new joiners. Short of increasing experience levels (and that will never happen), and therefore age, I don't know what the answer is. |
I second that emotion.
When it began I don't know but after the last few decades sitting in the back of the sim I can say there is most certainly a trend towards candidates who are satisfied with merely a passing grade, retaining no visible interest in refining their skills. It has certainly caused me to wonder how far down that road we can go before the profession itself becomes something unrecognizable.. |
Dropp, the "profession" is already turing into "just a job" for many.

I'm pretty sure EK have 200hr cadets regularly joining onto the 777 fleet so not sure why guys from turboprops with thousands of hrs are deemed a risk. Why such anti turboprop sentiment? Back in the 60s airlines had 200hr cadets in the cockpits of 707s and 720s flying transatlantic. Those flying 737s or 320s for ryanair/easyjet are accused of buying their way into aviation and not having a clue because they've never flown 'the real stuff' (usually referring to turboprops), then those that did fly the turboprops are accused of having insufficient skills simply for the fact they are flying a tp. You can never win.
Is this how bitter some people have become? Just because someone hasn't followed the exact career path that you followed, doesn't make them inferior. If anything, pretty much any instructor I've ever had has said the bigger the aircraft the more automation is on board and the easier to operate it becomes, especially compared to an ATR or Q400, so I'd simmer down. It wasn't a 2000hr former turboprop guy that caused the crash of the century, rather he had all the experience you guys claim is essential and heaven forbid anyone ever touch a widebody without meeting your personal past requirements :hmm: |

Wasn't 521 a former cadet? |
I din't know where to ask this question, for layovers in Milan, which hotel do the crew members stay in?
The flight from DXB - MXP - JFK, the crew gets changed in Milan or the whole crew goes to JFK? |

A bad example actually, if anything 521 is an example of what's wrong with airline training now a days and not about the crew. Just curious, What do you folks want to accomplish by degrading your fellow pilots? |

Dom [QUOTE][Wasn't the F/O very experienced with a lot of time on the 777 and with the right background according to some of you?/QUOTE] Im sorry, but last I heard it was the Captain who was at the controls, and the fo was ex qantas therefore not a lot of time of the 777. If (if the final report is ever released) it turns out that the Captain was the handling pilot and had both paws on the control yoke on the go around - wellllll - pretty hard to blame the fo. In the long run, I don’t want to cast dispersions on any aircrew, and I am not, for one second, denigrating the skill levels of cadets, but here is the reality - experience levels have dropped exponentially, and the industry is making do with that, the accountants are making do with that, but the long term safety of the airline is unquestionably jeopardised by the ever decreasing experience levels of new joiners and new captains. |
Hey guys, i got a reply from emirates, saying they wanna set up a 5-10 mins phone call with me. I am wondering if that's a normal practice or something with my application?
Anyone who experienced the same before? what do i expect during that phone call? Thanks a lot for everyone's input and words !! |

I submitted my application on 13/08/2019 for the accelerated A380, six weeks and no reply, is that normal 11200 total on A320 5300 as captain |
What are the negatives in your view? we're considering the move as a family with a 5 and 7 year old
