Hello fellow Pilots..i've finally got the call for the EK interview coming next month. Needless to say, i've been cramming to be prepared, and buying or borrowing whatever book i need to make a great impression.

I wanted to buy the "EMIRATES PILOT INTERVIEW HANDBOOK" through the web but it seems i need to have a Paypal account..from which my country does not have Paypal.

Anyone out there will to sell a used one to me? please pm. thanks. will send the dough with western union asap.

Love you man, Location 3rd world. Obviously you don't have any aspirations or you will be coming to a democracy and airline politics the same as your own location > 3rd world. Good luck on your command in 8 yrs ( thats an optimistic view)!!

Oh, by the way, how many guys are they recruiting from your part of the world now as it seems to be the only place they can get people to join from. The pay here will only make a labourer on the roads happy, and they work BLOODY hard for what they get.

Hey, don't worry about the handbook. Just be yourself as EK is so desperate for pilots its not funny. Looking at hiring and training around 380 in the next 12 months. Rather than just doing the interview look around you when you are here cos this building site will be here for a long long time. Getting through the interview is not difficult but living here with your family may be. Roads are dangerous due to crap drivers and road conditions. Buy the biggest car you can afford!! The cost of living is high and on an FOs salary with 2 kids expect to be just getting by until your upgrade....whenever it happens??? Schools are ok but not great. Work is chaotic at best....read the threads posted! Expect to listen to a lot of whining and bitching at work. Also, in case you have not heard, direct entry captains take up a lot of the headlines these days. On the bright side, we have an average of 350 days of sunshine a year according to EMAAR, a company here who builds many residential developments therefore not much drainage is reqd.....should see the past few days news after 2.5 days of rain!! Oh, there are lots of malls, sales, restaurants, bars, cafes etc cos the big cheese does not like you spending your hard earned salary anywhere but in Dubai. Came back from leave recently and had a new joiner on board. When he was waiting at the carousel for his bags he definitely had an expression of "what the hell am I doing here???"

Have you tried Transair.com.uk? They sell pilot supplies as well as interview prep books. I think they take Visa/MC for payment.

As far as aviation jobs go, it all depends on where you currently are and where you plan to be in a few years. For some folks EK might actually be a step up from where they currently are. It may give someone a chance to fly a heavy jet for a year or two and then move on to greener pastures. On the other hand, you may choose to stay on. It's an individual decision based on your current circumstances.

This forum has some great posts and "realistic" information on expectations.
It makes you take off the "rose colored glasses" and as you sip the "company Coolaid" you begin to sort things out for yourself.

I remember having an app with EK years ago, hoping to get call. Well I finally got the call last month. Timing was just off by a few years. Flying as Capt now for a major LCC in the U.S. it isn't worth it for me.Few years ago I would have had a different response.

With regards to preparation for the EK interview, I did not find the Interview Guide as useful as I thought it would be. That is not to say that looking over it didn't make me aware of the "group exercises" and how they were to be conducted. The techincal questions, were all answered by reading "The Technical Pilot Interview" by Gary Bristow.

The sim evaluation is straight forward, no tricks. If one has flown jets long enough and been to sim for years and years, then flying the profiles are easy enough. Fly it the way you would fly your company aircraft.

The group exercies are not hard, but does require one to think logically. Working along with your fellow team members, remember to make your point known also without seeming overly pushy.

The scariest part is sitting down with the Psychologist after the psychometric tests. They will read you like an open book! After review of the test results, they are able to tell you who you are, your concerns, your habits, and so on..That was the toughest part I thought.

Passed all the tests. Got the call...

Pilots from 3rd world are submitted to the same process with EK as from your "first world" pilots. And on their countries they have the same type ratings(A320s,30s, 40s, 737s and even 777s) and sim checks that you have in your "first world" country. And most of them fly to different places across the world and operate in busy airports (LHR, CDG, FRA, JFK, ORD, MIA, etc) exactly as pilots from your "first world" country. In other words, they are PILOTS exactly as you are, and just because you were born in a "first world" country, it doesn't make you any better than them.
