Emirates Pilot Interview

Whilst I appreciate you quick reply to my posting, you obviously saw something other than what I intended.

It is there to let others who are preparing for an inteview with EK, whether they are from the FIRST WORLD or THIRD WORLD WORLD, that the interview will not be as difficult as they think it will be.Or even as difficult as some people from the FIRST WORLD would like then to believe. The interview is one that you have to approach with an open mind, be logical, confident, don't rush and most off all be yourself.

Not once did I imply that I was better than anyone else because I am from, as you so pointed out "First World". Which I am sure you are from the "First World" also. I am fully aware, though thank you for being aware also that pilots from the Third World operate at many of the worlds busiest airports and most congested airways.

But again thank you for your totally off kilter perception of my well intended bit of advise to those who wish to apply to Emirates.

Regards.

My advise to anyone coming out here for an interview and wanting to fly for emirates is: don't bother!!!!!!! Look through the HR "Bull sh1te".

Iv'e done three years in this sh1t hole of a place, "yes got my command" and it's the most pathetic airline I have had the pleasure of working for.

So much so i'am just filling in the application form which I hope will get me out of this place.

Good luck, you'll need it.

oh ye, You will "keep discovering", that's for sure so don't say you have'nt been told!

The scariest part is sitting down with the Psychologist after the psychometric tests. They will read you like an open book! After review of the test results, they are able to tell you who you are, your concerns, your habits, and so on..That was the toughest part I thought.
Passed all the tests. Got the call...

The Shrink sat quietly for a few minutes after chatting with me....then said "I really can't figure you out" Is that good or bad?

At least he didn't cry I suppose!

As said above...Dubai is a sh!thole and Emirates...well...don't bother discovering! Keep your sanity, your happiness and family..real values, and don't bother chasing the not so good and not for much longer tax free money here. It is just not worth it!

DOn't get me started!!!!!

nearly into double digits until escape date

Bye for now

Steven Coe,

Sorry but my reply was not for you. I just was trying to show to critical winge that pilots from 3rd world are also qualified to fly anywhere in the world. You misunderstand...Sorry about that. Mfan

Hi

Im not going to tell you what airline is good or bad. not my job. but regarding the book, is was not a great help in the interview as EK has changed the interview a bit. as technical goes, ACE should help you alot. as the rest, you really dont need any books for it. flying skills is what you must have to pass the sim check, and the rest is just personality. NO BOOKS FOR THAT. great group of people in the interview and make you feel right at home. good luck and fly safe.

I wanted to buy the "EMIRATES PILOT INTERVIEW HANDBOOK" through the web but it seems i need to have a Paypal account..from which my country does not have Paypal.

Anyone out there will to sell a used one to me? please pm. thanks. will send the dough with western union asap.

Thanks guys for the tips and opinions. You saved me some $ from buying the book. I'll go to Dubai with an open mind..will just be myself, and fly the sim like i usually fly (2700hrs on jets, 600+command)..if i don't make it, will just think of CRITICAL WHINGE ,ZK Lowrider and PUFF N CALL, probably buy them a beer . If I do make the cut, then probably it's really for me.

Hey Thrust Clb,

If you get through well done but don't think for a minute it's the ultimate job for you. Do your research and speak to the line pilots not the management types you will meet on your interview. On your tour day have a look around DXB and take in the lovely smell of pollution, sights of construction & chaos (that's what the locals call progress) and traffic jams/accidents (that's what the locals call inshallah). Also when you see the accommodation to be offered, don't expect it on arrival here as these places change (you might be lucky or end up in a villa in the middle of the desert or next to a major freeway, construction site, mosque, school or even the airport (love the sound of those B737-200s taking off at all times)!!! Make sure you know where you will be located prior to joining or else the option of the housing allowance you get will not entitle you to even a small villa anywhere near (<40/50 km) from work. This is due to high rents generated by unscrupulous and greedy landlords!! I have been here nearly 10 yrs and my salary has been eroded every year due to rising costs. I will stay as my family is happy here but if I knew then what I know now I would have taken another airline offer. As they say hindsight is a wonderful thing!! Good luck. PS: The rest about DXB I am sure you can get a feel for by the Middle East threads.

nwapilotwife, if you didn't have a problem with the kingdom i doubt you will have an issue with life in dubai. My older brother did home schooling for his last three years of school. Housing is becoming a bit of an issue in recent years with the prices increasing. I'd say dubai is alot more modern/free than saudi. If you are used to/enjoy living in the gulf, dubai is a good place to be.

Post Emirates Interview

I've been offered an interview at Emirates. If anyone out there has actually been through the interview could you please email me? I have a few questions about the technical exam beyond, "read the book."

Thanks

This has been a very informative forum, regarding the Emirates Interview.
As I have my one coming, I would like to ask some of you guys that had already done yours what is the rate of success of pilots from non-english spoken countries on the DEC interview.
Please, I'm not saying there is a racist issue regarding the interviews, but as many of my company felows (with more than 10000 PIC time, good english, type-rated or non) got a negative from the company, I'm wondering if coming all the way from my country to Dubai (payng for me and spouse) is worth it.

Go to www.airlinepilotcentral.com and the forums section. There has been a lot of discussion on the interview over there that is somewhat current. You'll find it under "hiring". Plus do a search here. Most of the forum is for N. America flying.

Dress code

It looks like all of the guys who know the good life have left the ME.
Those of you who are staying there do not even seem to know the dress codes : business and smart casual .
If there is anybody left behind , please enlighten me up.
Or, are you all like me ?

Ummm.......shame on us !

From what I heard from the fleet, from every 10 DECs, only one makes it. And for FOs, the rate is 5/5. Good luck!

Murrenfan,
Thank you for the answer. A 10% of chance puts me on the side of not going all the way there, after reading all claims on this forum.
What I do not understand is the fact that they are parking acfts next month for lack of crew and still they are not taking very good and experienced pilots for some reason.

Talking

Well having just purchased the book Ace the Pilot Technical Exam I can see why only 10%. It having been 34 yrs from graduation and 31 sense my last FAA written some things in the book are barely shaking the cobwebs.Using the same company terms and procedures for 28 yrs doesn't help either.LOL

Filejw,
That's absolute true, when I began reading this book I couldn't remember most of it. But if it was only for the technical exam, a lot of studying would fix it.
The thing is that in another book "Emirates Pilot Interview Handbook" it is stated that the technical exam counts for only 10% of your destiny on the interview, being the "psychometric and panel interview" the important part of it (40%). Sim ride goes for another 30%. Workshop for 20%.
So something more than this book is needed.
