give qr and aab a break
its about time that people stop writing crap about qr and aab.
its true that his management style and leadership type is not conventional but ultimately he gets the job done and thats the most important point.
i have worked for him in qr for the past one year and his energy, drive, dedication to qr and decision making abilities never cease to amaze me.
this guys works 24/7 and has an eye for detail. he leads by example and he wants his team to be passionate about service himself.
with regards to how cabin crew are treated, its common knowledge that cc have direct access to him if they have any troubles or problems. which other airline offers that.
people dont like integrally to be pushed and dont like leaders that have an eye for detail.
one thought for ppl who dont like qr... QUIT!!

Melnish...Habibi,
I agree with you that AAB has an incredibly strong drive and that he gets lots of parts of the job done. No doubts he is a gifted manager but.............
He has absolutely no idea what the most valuable in his company is....being the personell! He has no idea how to treat people...
QR is being run on fear and that is very dangerous, certainly in an airline!
Listening to people, establishing a communication strategy towards the workforce ....all very small things that could change the whole atmosphere within QR
Apparently you have no idea how low the morale is amongst the flight crews! It is sub sub zero....
And why, because nobody has any idea what is going on.
A salary increase has been promised for two years now. So far nothing has been seen.
Now the latest rumour is that there will be an increase next month. But what will it be...15%, 20% maybe????
That really is not going to change the attitude of people. That is merely enough to cover the inflation rate in Qatar these days.
To become competeitve QR needs to be on the same level as EK or etihad for example. Exactly the same level. Then we can talk. And this goes for all levels of personell. From the office boys to the higher up managers.
Once that problem has been siolved we can stat talking about the rest. How are people being treated? What little things can the company do to improve morale?
I will tell you something.....bringing in contract pilots at 4000USD is not, NOT, the way to do it! At least not without informing the own workforce first!
Hiring only chinese and Koreans in the cabin is NOT the way to do it.
Making the 12H duty day the standard rostered day is NOT the way to do it!
Putting a cerfew on the CCM accomodations is NOT the way to do it!
Having an indian maffia running sheduling department is NOT the way to do it!
Very little changes could mean the world to the hard working people of QR.
QR is at a critical phase right now....growing too fast, people unhappy, several departments are unable to cope, low quality of pilots and CCM being hired due to critical shortage etc....
And everybody knowing the business knows where this all leads to....right! The inevitable.......and that would mean the end!
It is not too late and we can see allready some positive signs that managment is finally recognising the problems. Little changes are being made....lets hope the big ones will follow as well.
QR has great product and has all the potential to become a major airline....I hope the people with the power will not ruin this opportunity.
Your remark about liking or quitting.....BS!
Take care

Asians are a bunch of hard working people and they are up to date with job knowledge, and westerners are NOT. thats one reason QR as well as many other Asian carriers top the charts when it come to service standerds and western Airlines dont.
look at Gulf air and Emirates today.where have they gone with many westerners? -downhill !!

Bang
Sorry comments unwarrented. Many western crews at QR worked there butts off for the company and look how they got paid back shafted from a great hight by other nationalities who had direct access to AAB obviously the spies in the cabin. As for working knowledge sorry disagree, lets take the cabin service manual for instance if its not in there nearly all asians wont do it because its not in the manual. No degree for flexability so they work hard does not mean that they are good at it. Bang I think you need a bit of a reality check
EK has great crews have flown them many times this year back and forth to DXB. Sorry QR crews all look to scared when they are working in the cabin incase anyone reports them.
I have flown with many airlines in the world as a passenger, and would rate ek crews as one of the best, QR's crew as I've said all look to scared to talk or enjoy their work.
As for giving AAB a break, well after he shafted a lot of people think its now time for a little pay back for the little worm.

Downhill with Westerners at EK? I thought the majority of the cabin crew at that airline were from Western countries, but maybe I'm mistaken myself. But they seem to recruit a lot in Europe and now they are hunting in Canada.
I think GF are a bit like QR, they prefer people from Africa and Asia... but those few left Europeans at QR were great to work with!

Ok Bang....
Asians ARE hard working people, nothing to be said about that!
But....
I would like to see a certain level of knowledge of English....some of the new crew can barely understand english. They have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Last I asked for a head count and the poor girl did not have a clue...
When we asked how many emergency exits we had she said...220!!!!
The problem was the language!
I would like to see acertain level of knowledge of safety issues!
I would like to see a certain level of assertivity! Remember, these tiny shy girls are there to block an exit in an emergency and hold back a 100 raging pax when needed to!!!
etc
That is what I meant! We have some excellent experienced asian crew. Real professionals
But the last bunches are horrible and should not be flying. They come from the most remote parts of the continent, have no idea about the real world and we expect the to be cabin crew!!!
Be real!
Besides that QR is supposed to be a multi national airline....half of the crew being asian does not contribute to this point isnt it?

Apart from this disgusting comment, I can only assume that the extremely racist Bang hasn't actually flown with any other airline? Because I have experienced service on Emirates that exceeds QR.
But then I am not an opinionated racist.

Although QR crew are in constant fear, both in cabin as well as in their apartments, EK can only dream of getting close to QR in service standerds. in the areas of HR and manegement EK is far ahead and ofcourse EK is a far better place to work for.
Flown many air lines for over 10 years, done service training for a few airlines, and EK certainly does not exceed QR-not atleast at the moment!
* no Disgusting racist comments made here.only the "facts" highlighted!

GIVE AAB A BREAK - GET REAL!
Melnish, what you are saying really baffles me and i'm sure many of the unhappy crew are too.
Try telling ALL those terminated and demoted hard-working and dedicated crew and f/deck crew who have been s**t on by Al Baker! The Australian CSD who was terminated for serving alcohol to POSITIONING f/deck crew, not in uniform and who insisted to the CSD to serve alcohol was fired without question - poor man came to Qatar to start all over again after losing his job with an Australian carrier - his mother was also sadly killed in the Bali bombing too and that "man" AAB should lower his head in shame.
There's no doubt that QR have a terrible reputation and it's such a shame really as many people from around the world would like to work for QR but not under a dictatorship. This is exactly why people are leaving faster than they can recruit - tell someone about QR in europe and they will praise you for sticking with such an awful airline.
For the posting about westerners in QR - they simply do not last because of the harsh environment under AAB rule. The safety manual was written by a dedicated Irish lady, she too was s**t on by AAB 's puppet.

eal401, I doubt if he has ever been working with any airline.
I remember many girls from Nepal being sent home during training when they didn't pass the tests, because they couldn't even understand what they read on paper nor heard by the trainers.
Asians are hard working people, but all of them are not the kindest ones and there are exceptions when it comes to hard working personalitites.

....and Saliya was about to be Questioned by the management when crew finaly went against him at "then" AIRLANKA and a pettition was put forward against his cruelty at Flight Attendants Union,in the year 1995/1996.
He pulled a few strings and joined QR in 1996, only to escape justice and continue cruelty in this part of the world.
His style of dictatorship management/leadership is not recognized anymore except at QR!
He has been hated all over, whereever he goes.

homesick rae:
As you know Saliya is an puppet - why all the crew have to answer to him instead of the cabin-crew manager baffles me. If a crew member is in trouble then he/she has to go and speak to that snake himself, can someone tell me why Bob Gates is there in the first place?
AAB hasn't got a clue what Saliya tells him

Bob Gates not only has no say in the company but also has no choice in the mater.BG is a puppet himself, that could be made out of cardboard!
Reason why most of crew go to the "Snake Saliya" is because, it was practiced from the begining when he was the Assistant manager cabin crew, before he was going to be demoted to the position of " SEP Trainer".
Saliya begged and pleaded and got himself planted at the training manager seat, blocking the dedicated Irish lady who was from Gulfair.
Saliya has got his "media Asistants" in the department (Trainer-DF) and in the Cabin (CSD'-DG/AR/ND) to promote himself as "THE" man closest to the Chief.and as "THE" man who can walk in & out of 9th floor as he pleases.and as "THE" man AAB listens to.
As Snake's own media department headed by "Trainer DF" backs him with false info to the public, making the snake an important part of the company (although in AAB' eyes he is not),the crew turn to him for help when in trouble, only to find out, Snake backstabs them.
