I know someone that mentioned that from the age of 35 they usually don't unless it's an extremely tough period.
Any hints?

Yes I have the same question?
And another more.
Has anyone made UPRT in hungary and applied for the non type rated cadet.
how fast does wizz usually answer?

Hi all,

do you know if Wizzair projects to open bases in west Europe ?
Thanks

Banana Joe 28th Feb 2020 13:50

When I went to the assessment a year ago they mentioned Italy. Now what they have is reverse rostering for those based Bucharest.

Rottweiler22 28th Feb 2020 16:00

I didn’t hear of any new bases planned at the moment. Not in Western Europe.

Expansion in the UK was hinted with new bases, but only when there was more certainty about Brexit.

I am more interested in opening new positions for cadets than new bases :)

Contradictory information on the news. Abu Dhabi subsidiary announced, and that they will be recruiting for it “in the coming months”.

Then in today’s news, Wizz looking at “pausing” recruitment, due to them cutting capacity by 10% until June.

Doors may be closed for a few months until they reach full capacity again.

samatyranin 4th Mar 2020 16:23

It is not a surprise that they are cutting operations. Ppl are scared AF of coronavirus so many of them avoid airports at all costs. If thinks like that will hold on for longer then we might end up with airline crisis better than back when that iceland volcano exploded - short term - but at the end of the day it may kill whole industry for extended period of time.

rp001 8th Mar 2020 09:26

Any idea what to do next?
Wait or pay a type rating and then wait?

PAPI-74 8th Mar 2020 10:39

That’s your gamble.
Paying for a rating without a job, especially with routes being slashed, could land you in a whole lot of trouble. Without hours on type (generally 500), not many airlines will take you on. But saying that, you need to be ready for the uptake. This crisis could take till the Summer to get under control, so timing is essential.
I would get hold of someone in recruitment and see how the numbers stack up before you spend.

Banana Joe 8th Mar 2020 10:45

Why are some people going all in only one carrier? I don't understand this.

Mac Gregor 9th Mar 2020 18:13

Because they might be based in a city where they were born, grew up, have a house, family, friend...maybe?

dirk85 9th Mar 2020 20:05

They can apply for a job in the city post office then.

Stuntpiloot 10th Mar 2020 04:00

You might even make more money

iandy912i 10th Mar 2020 15:31

Or maybe some of us don't have another choice (talking about myself)

PilotRoger 10th Mar 2020 15:52

i don't ask much, as soon any airline offers me 2 things: good safety record, and job security.

Rottweiler22 13th Mar 2020 16:44

As far as I know, recruitment stopped, and future type ratings postponed.

Banana Joe 13th Mar 2020 16:46

I confirm type rating classes are being postponed.

flyingmeatball 13th Mar 2020 16:57

The door is closed I got an email yesterday

iandy912i 13th Mar 2020 19:47

hopefully just temporarily... i wish the company to survive this situation... but we'll see what's gonna happen tomorrow or on sunday, as Poland is closing the airports

Rottweiler22 13th Mar 2020 20:03

Luckily, Wizz are financially very strong. So they have plenty in their bank account to get them through this difficult time. They will probably also be poised to leap in and take potentially profitable work from weaker airlines, should they fold during this crisis. So I am quite confident this ceasing of recruitment and type ratings is a short term issue.
