VIE

Are there chances to get a basing in VIE as DEC? Or is there a long internal waiting list?
Which NET salary can a DEC expect in Austria?

Thx, TOS

Forget about it. It's very senior. Unless you're a local with a property and family in Vienna. In that case you're automatically on top of the list.

WizzAir Pilot assesment days DEC

Hi All, in August I will be going to Budapest for the 2 day Pilot Assessment. Applying as DEC A320 NTR. The program consists of Introduction, Group Exercise, Computer Test, Interview and Sim Check.... Any experience on any of these? Any tips for good preperation? Links with Test examples? Thanks and much appreciated, Mafae

Banana Joe 7th Jul 2019 09:44

Review some maths and conversions, information about the company with bases and destinations. Regardless of your level of experience, rated or not, you will get these questions in the 60 question computer quiz. You actually need to score at least 70% to make it to the next phase.

Thanks Banana Joe, any "online" examples that I could find and exercise? Thanks, Mafae

LatestPilotJobs to get an idea should be sufficient.
I don't need to tell you to review some stuff you would find in your OMA.

Current fleet 104 aircraft in service. ORDERS: 274 AIRCRAFT !!! Crazy!
No other airline has such orders…. It leaves Ryanair and EasyJet well behind in terms of expansion….
Where are they going to expand since at present they are only operating in niche markets….

They should open bases in Spain and fly to Africa.
also if they do that lot of Vueling pilots would apply

Banana Joe 8th Jul 2019 10:09

It's looking good for them indeed, and they might open bases in Italy and Greece as well in future. The thing is, they have decided to slow down their expansion and take it easy. They are wisely learning from other airlines' mistakes.

The ones who speak English or the ones who don't?

They've been dangling this carrot of opening bases outside of Eastern Europe for 15 years. And how many bases in the West have they opened? One.

They've always said their main focus is Eastern Europe and they do not intend to compete directly with Ryanair, easyJet and Vueling in Western Europe. They have opened one base in Luton and one in Vienna, so unless Vienna for you is Eastern Europe, that's two bases.
There's plenty of opportunities for Eastern Europe to/from Italy. Especially Romania.

brushcounsel 8th Jul 2019 11:52

Sorry, my mistake. So two in 15 years.

Wizz Air can compete at the moment, because of their low cost of workforce, as having people based predominantly in Eastern Europe allow people to pay almost no tax due to lax legislation as well as almost no oversight of local tax authorities. Add to that the extremely transparent Swiss tax arrangement, and you see why opening bases in Western Europe is difficult for them.

Because if they want to attract people to fly for them in the West, they will have to offer the same (or better) net salary that they pay in Eastern Europe. But with real taxes and not just 0-5% Swiss tax and some mini social contributions, this will increase their costs by up to 50%.

There is no capacity in Eastern Europe for 300 additional LCC aircraft.

samca 8th Jul 2019 15:30

If they want to expand and contract all the experience pilots they need for all that airplanes they need to offer, bases or good commuting or money. There is no magic formulas

eiffel 8th Jul 2019 17:45

5 crew / aircraft means 2740 pilots…. Good luck with that !
In terms of expansion, Indeed, is there space for such an increase in capacity just for the Central/Eastern European market?.... For sure there are not going to start flying MAD-AMS which would be completly away from their original business model....
(From Eastern Europe, the A321XLR apparently may do India but transatlantic is out of question according to their CEO as it is a saturated market)

R T Jones 8th Jul 2019 18:21

They compete with EZY at Luton, have mirrored the routes to KEF, TLV, LIS, KRK and OPO at least.

hid3 8th Jul 2019 18:55

I attended Ryanair presentation last week. They also spoke about massive orders of MAX-200 Boeings. It's definitely not tens of aircrafts but hundreds. So it seems there is still some market for expansion if the company is planning such investments in the near future. BTW, Ryian's salary for 600-hour FO is ~70k per year. How does that compare to Wizz CPT's salary? To me it looks like Wizz captains earn less than that...
