A colleague of mine went last year so hopefully things haven't changed too much...

The interview is in 2 sections - the technical test is an ATPL style exam covering all ATP subjects. 40 or 50 questions in 30 minutes - fairly easy if you have a 'quick' look through your ATPL notes!

The verbal part will be with 2 interviewers, lasting about an hour or so. The majority of this is talking about your career to date, where you see yourself in 10 years and finding out what you know about the company. There are also a few technical questions to make sure you know your facts about POF.

It's supposedly a fairly relaxed affair with no real tricks or surprises.

BTW, what experience do you have and when did you apply?

I had my interview last year and was exactly like that...

Thanks for the info, however, I need to make this clear I don't have an interview but I have a mate who does. I've received a few pm's and I'll pass the info onto him. Sorry for the misleading initial post - I'll blame him for that!

As for his experience about 1300 hours TT, 500 multi or something like that. He's waited a while so deserves his break! Good luck mate!!

I had one a few years ago and it wasn't like that - it was much simpler! 4 or five verbal tech questions (on the emb - not type rating stuff but things like 'this a/c has a high t-tail, what others things must it therefore have?' ie related to its stall characteristics) and a 20 - 30 min interview including the standard 'Capt in a dress' type of questions.

If you looked like you were suffering they would help you toward the answer.

Looks like the process has changed (and why you shouldn't rely exclusively on Proon - the first to get that exam paper while expecting the above must have got a shock! )

Interview was friendly though and don't suppose that will have changed.

(I know Pilot Pete offers all his available info to those who have done his interview course by getting feedback from those who go to interviews - I would imagine Penny Austin would do the same) Both would appear to be money v. well spent but that is another (dozen or so) threads.

Whats with BMI regional, I know someone that did a JOC course (minimum hours) and managed to get an interview with them.

But Captain B still requires 500hrs min if you didnt. Does his brother run the JOC courses I wonder

Hi.

Can anyone suggest where I may find extensive information regarding ‘BMI Regional’ including routes etc...

Any advice / information welcome.

Thank you for your interest in bmi regional.

With a view to future recruitment we are currently accepting applications from the following pilots for our Embraer 135/145 Fleet.

Captains :- Who hold a JAA Licence and have at least 3500 hours total time and minimum of 500 hours jet command or 1000 hours turboprop command. Direct entry Captains will be asked to sign a training bond.

First Officers and recently promoted Captains rated on the Embraer will also be considered for direct entry command positions.

First Officers :- Who hold a JAA Licence and are prepared to self fund their type rating and have a minimum of 500 hours total time. You should also have completed an MCC course, have a current multi engine Instrument Rating and be in current flying practice.

If you would like to be considered please complete the attached application form in full and return it with a copy of your latest CV. Pilots with no commercial flying experience should also enclose a copy of the final report from their training organisation.

Can I ask you to read the instructions on references very carefully? Due to the latest security measures we now require to account for every single day in the past five years.

Applications that do not meet the above requirements will NOT be processed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

Q. What do we mean by a self funded type rating?

A. This only applies to first officers - employees contribution towards an Embraer 135/145 type rating would be £12,000, consisting of :-

1. Prior to commencing training the employee would require to make a non refundable payment of £2,000.

2. The balance would be covered by a salary reduction of £167.00 per month for 60 months.

Q. Do we offer a fast track Command?

A. Not as such. However we will consider pilots with around 2000 hrs total time and 1000 hrs multi crew experience who could be ready for command in around 12 to 18 Months.

Q. Do I need to have an MCC certificate.

A. Yes. Unless you are exempt due to your multi crew experience.

Q. I have not flown for some time, will I still be considered?

A. We will only accept pilots who are in current flying practice. Simulator time is acceptable and may even help you to pass our jet assessment.

Q. Do I need to have a current Instrument Rating.

A. Yes. It is a requirement to have a current multi engine IR. at the start of the course for the issue of your first Multi Pilot Type Rating.

Q. I do not have 500 hours should I still fill in the application form.

A. No, this is a standard E-mail sent to all applicants. The application form should only be returned when you have completed all the requirements.

Q. What is the preferred way to contact the company?

A. All recruitment is now handled by E-mail. It saves time and money. Applications need to be sent by post but other than that I would prefer not to receive mail.

Q. Will you notify me when you receive my application?

A. No, I receive so many applications that I can no longer send a receipt message.

Q. Should I contact the company on a regular basis?

A. No, all applications that meet the above requirements will remain on file for one year. I do not have time to deal with regular enquiries.

They sent me an application a few weeks ago and there were a few areas which seemed a little bit grey to me. If you don't have any commercial experience you need to send them a report from your traning provider; a pain in the butt to do as I don't have a report. Would you count instruction or charter work as "commercial experience." Also they were asking about if I had done and MCC, LOFT and CRM course. Obviously, I have MCC but do you think that it would also tick the LOFT and CRM boxes. I could have called them, but it's not the kind of thing I like to hassle Captain JB over.

It goes without saying, but ensure that all moustaches and especially beards are removed prior to the interview. Doesn't go down well with management!

Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, East Midlands.

Embraer 135/145

Not sure about routes - includes Belfast, Durham Tees Valley, Edinburgh, Inverness, Leeds Bradford, London Heathrow, Manchester, Norwich, Stornoway

I'm sure you could have found that out yourself though so probably not much help.

Are they desperate for people at any one of those bases?

New G/F lives north of the border. Must admit I have rather a "thing" for this one. Add to that my feeling about my current base (it sucks really, really, really, really, REALLY badly) this might be the opportunity I am looking for!

They asked on the application which base was preffered. I suspect that favouring Aberdeen might help your application along. As the saying goes "be careful what you wish for....." Another thing I heard was that they will move you round the bases when you are new. Makes for an awkward lifestyle.

They only 'move you round the bases' if the company requires it (ie don't give you your first choice initially, then allow you to voluntarily move to somewhere more preferable)- I certainly got my first choice base the day I joined - others have gone to ABZ until openings occur where they want to go.

That said, there is occasionally a requirement to nightstop at other bases for a few days at a time to covers gaps due to leave etc, possibly once a month or so. Not quite the same thing as moving all around the place but possibly what your contact was referring to. (Also move round bases during line training - but that should be expected really!)

Basing is done on a seniority basis.

WX Man: How far north does your girlfriend live? GLA is quita a small base and EDI is v popular. ABZ would probably come your way if you wanted it though. (Having said that any base could be available)

Yep,

Sent CV to Capt.Bell, offered interview 4 days later! I'm with flybe at mo on Q400.....

Think they are looking to recruit FO's.

Didn't go for interview as told it was based in Aberdeen, I live MAN so not good move for me, needless to say it would be a great 1st job for any of you guys out there trying to get foot on ladder!

Go for it, although I feel they are looking for people with 500+ commercial hrs!

Just my thoughts, hope it helps!

The impression that I get is that they have some pretty firm ideas about what they'd like. A BA Connect captain told me a few weeks back that BMI had poached a few ERJ FO's for fast track commands. They also have a preference for existing TP guys but notice periods can cause problems in getting them. Air Taxi pilots are also favoured. All these are what BMI and Captain JB consider to have "commercial" experience. Guys who only have done aerial work such as instruction and survey type work don't seem to get the interviews. So, a 500hr PPL instructor? I doubt they would be interested.

The guy I knew who got the job had less hours than me, certainly less multi.. He did however have "commercial" experience which is something I've only just started to get.
