Galaxy Girl,
Since the huge intake most of the crew have been at home sitting on reserve and not flying all that much. The new roster is released next week and is for a 2 month period starting on the 9th of June. In the new roster to be released all the flying has come back from Short Haul and also there are new destinations in Melbourne. This changes everything in relation to what QCCA crew get.
Wait till the 9th of June and you will have a better idea of QCCA type flying out of Melbourne and Sydney.
Cheers

Hi there,
Have you applied for QCCA? If so where are you in the recruitment process? I'm up to week 5 of the waiting....I can tell you I'm eating more chocolate now than ever before!! Not good!!
From reading other threads there seams to be alot of movement in the other airlines in terms of interview to medical to training school. QCCA has gone quiet.....not sure what to think.
Congrats if you have made it through past the interview

no only QCCA, I'm ex NZ crew and just want to fly from oz with Qantas. I must say though I had no idea about V until I went through the QCCA process. I've been out of the industry for a few years....
All the best with you and V. If you get offered both who would you rather fly with??

GalaxyGirl and others wishing to join,
With regards to the treatment of QCCA crew by senior crew I think you will quickly find if you join there are just as many odd ball "new crew" as there are "senior crew". The seniors are fine, and reality is you probably wont fly with that many of them due to the seniority and bidding system. Usually you will find yourself flying with crew at a similar seniority to you.
In my experiences to date in flying with seniors, i actually enjoy it. Seniors have been around so long they are relaxed about the job and know how to have a good time, and not take things way too seriously. They are full of little tricks and tips to make your career in flying enjoyable and manageable. The clash will usually occur when you get new crew coming onboard with major "know it all" attitudes, they usually get put in their place fast. Don't get me wrong, there are as I said the odd annoying ones and some who need to go, but they are few and should not be generalised as being the majority.
With regards to V Australia and Qantas, they are very different brands and should be treated as such. Good luck with whichever you choose... My only advice is, in this job you gotta have a thick skin...
Cheers

Posts get removed when people are either ignorant of the oft-repeated forum rules, or decide that rules are for everybody else but not them.
Save yourselves the aggravation & stick to the rules.
It's not rocket science people, really it isn't.
Yet again, here they are:
Posts in this forum MUST:
If you don’t stick to this, your post will be deleted.
* This means that any of the following stuff is not to be posted...
Facebook links, blogs, I'm so happy for you, woohoo I got it, wish me luck, send me a PM, msn me, will you be at the interview, follow your dreams etc. etc. All of this should be done by PM (link under a poster's name) on PPRuNe or by Text Message - in fact do it anyway that you want - BUT DON'T POST IT ON A THREAD. You need to be very clear on this - If your post does not contain concrete fact about the subject of the thread then it has no business on PPRuNe – anywhere.

Right, back to business....
Applications have opened for current QCCA crew to express interest to be allocated to the A380. The positions are for F/A and BFA crew only. It will be interesting to see how many apply and if there will be a shortfall to the numbers required.
Also the closing date for applications for upgrade to BFA, CSS and CSM has now changed to the 6/6/08 due to high interest. Currently a handfull of QCCA have made it through to CSS and only one (correct me anyone if this is not correct) to CSM. Good luck to all those who have applied.
And last but not least there has been a murmur regarding holding off on recruitment due to yet another rise in fuel costs. This has not been confirmed, just a rumour, but for those who are waiting at least this may be a valid reason for the hold up.
For all the newbies happy and safe flying. To all the wannabe's hang in there it really is worth the wait!

Thanks A_B_P for the update. I'm one of the lucky ones waiting to hear if we have moved on to the next round of the recruitment process.....I've heard that some airlines are reducing staff numbers due to the fuel price so I guess it is understandable that they will pause the recruitment process for the time being.

Just heard today that there is a ground school in June, date yet to be confirmed. This is from 2 separate sources that have been contacted by recruitment so looks like something may be happening. It's all gone a bit quiet after the initial circus hasn't it?

Aviation Cycle
The downturn has begun.
There are already rumours of another VR early next year.
Crew are being urged to reduce the weight of baggage they take away on trips.
A charge for checkin baggage for pax is on the horizon.
The growth of QCCA will be halted as some less profitable routes are culled and older gas guzzling aircraft are parked
