If it says the 16th, then thats the date which you step on the flight for AUH. EY like EK will send your tickets and visa a couple of days before you are due to fly. I suggest you start packing as you do not have long left

As for essentials, well I am not taking any chances and taking as many of my own things as my luggage will allow. Bare in mind that you will be very busy in the first month with training etc, so make make your life easier by taking as many things as you can with you. I am even taking a pot of coffee with me!hehehe...thats me not taking any chances!hehe (let's face it, I will need all the coffee to keep me awake during training )

about the interview in Romania

DEAR IANA, this is how it went the interview in ROMANIA:
We started the day at 8.30 AM. First thing - the reach test! You take your shoes off and you get in line and you have to touch a line drawn on the wall! After touching the line you get a number! With your papers you go to the ETIHAD lady and you give her your CV and she writes your number! From that point on you become the number that is sticked on your chest!!!
After that you are presented a video clip about ETIHAD, you are explained aboaut life in ABU DHABI, what you are allowed and what you are not allowed to do there!
You take the English test, a 6 parts test that you have to complete in 20 minutes. Until someone from the recruitment firm verified our tests, the 2 ladies from ETIHAD called us to one-on-one interviews! There was a short interview, with a few questions, like: Why do you want to work for us? Why do you want to be a flight attendant? how do you feel about moving to ABU DHABI? Choose an object from the ones below- a water bottle, an empty glass, a newspaper, a mobile... Why did you choose it?
And now comes the first REVIEW - they tell you now if you go away or you can stay and participate at the rest of the tests!
After the first girls are leaving, you take lunch, payed by them!
Then you start the next round - you get a subject and you have to talk about that for 1 minute!
After this you are separated in 2 groups and you get the bunker test - there are 11 survivors( a pregnant women, a teenager, a physician, a scientist....), you have to choose 3 people to send in to the bunker and motivate why! This is a group activity!!! MY advise to you is: DON'T GET TO INVOLVED IN THE DISCUSSIONS FROM THIS ACTIVITY! state your opinion but don't be to insistent about it!!! I think that this was my mistake, I talked to much during this group activity!!!!
After this, there is another review - they tell you who goes away and who stays!!! from what I understood, there is another interview one-on-one, and then you go home! you are not told if your going in ABU DHABI! You have to wait to receive via email a security clearance and the medicals that you have to do! that means that you're going!
They don't tell you anything, why they didn't like you!
The second review was at 5 PM! ! You will be very tired and at some point you want them to come to tell you that you are going home, because is exhausting!!!
If you are called to go, don't think it will be in the next few days! They told us that we will be called in march next year!!!

Hope this was helpful!!!

I didn't get the job!!! I'm not sad, what it's meant to be it's meant to be!!! C'est la vie!!!
But I don't understand them!!! They sent away some beautiful girls, and I am not talking about me!!!
Those girls that they sent away were beautiful, smart, .... I don't understand what are the characteristics that they are looking for?!!! Some of the girls that were elected are not so beautiful, do not speak such an excellent English, they don't appear to be to smart... I don't know!!! But it was strange!!!
And there were some more strange things: the training is 7 weeks long!!! - NOT 6 WEEKS! The contract is on 3 years, not 2!!! You have to know to swim, and I was told that it's not mandatory!!! You are not allowed to have ... a beer in your apartments, because if the police makes a random check in your apartment and find it, we will be in trouble!!! With the police and with ETIHAD!!!! In order to have drink - alcohol!!! in your room you need to apply for a alcohol license from the AUE government!!!
I found out a lot of things that were not how I was told!!!

thanks for all the answers from you guys!!!- they helped me more!!!

I'm so sorry 2 hear that =(.
It was the same in my interview, some really not good looking girls got on and some ppl who seemed perfect were eliminated.
Sounds weird they'd say training is 7 weeks! Hmmm... And I got the contract, it's 2 years.
The alcohol part is true, it is a muslim country. The license system is 2 make sure no muslims drink, and probably 2 make sure the workers from pakistan and so on don't become drunks instead of working like slaves =/.
Anyways, good luck in the future now...! And try again if u really wanna do this.

I don't think I want to try again! It's not something that I'm crazy about but it was a chance to do something new that on top of everything is very well payed! And it was a chance to escape from my husband and son for 2 years!!!
About the 3 years contract - that is what the women from ETIHAD said! I have no idea why! I knew about 2 years also!
I think they didn't like me because at the role playing game I was, maybe!!!, to strong in my opinions!!! A lot of the girls that remained were, how can I say this without offending them, average!!! They had nothing special!!! And their spoken English was so bad!!! Here, in Romania, most of the people that are speaking English have a really bad accent - a lot like the Russian people!! You can barely understand them!!! So it's crazy!!!
Anyways, thanks for all the answers and for the cheer ups, I wish you all the best! And an easy contract with the ETIHAD!!!

EY

EY is pretty much like EK in many sense and the Assessments mirror one another. Having been to a few of such things and finally getting EK, we would be led to think that the Middle Eastern airlines only picked out the good looking girls of the bunch but that is not the case at all. It is widely seen that those who are already crew are preferred but thats not true. The fact of the matter is, we speculate but we do not really know what they are looking for and each applicant is measured on their own merit. It is no use comparing with one another as these airlines are recruiting so much that if 50 candidate turned up and all 50 were ideal, they would hire them all. My advice would be to look at it as an experience and then apply to EK..hehe

Good Luck to you all

oh, I forget!!!
There was a guy there! Well, 2 actually, but only one remained almost until the end - he got the <thank you for coming but we don't need you> thing the same time that I did!
Anyways, this guy came all the way from Greece! He applied online to ETIHAD and he got an invitation to come there, to Brasov!!! And he was tall, excellent English, looking good, (not my kind of guy! - but for this job!!!) very presentable......... and he was not elected!!!!
And to make this more clear, he came from Greece to Romania! and that is a lot of traveling! I live in Romania and I made a 8 hours drive to Brasov, the city were the assessment day was held, that is a 530 km drive!!! And it was very expensive also!!! Imagine that the drive - for me- was around 100$! For the gas and the food! And my salary, now, is around 300 EURO, that is 440$!!!
So, this was a very expensive experience for me!!! I don't think I have enough resources to give it another try!!!

do you know about the drugs - as in pharmaceutical drugs - that you are not allowed to take with you over there? You are not supposed to take there anything that contains a certain substance!!! But most of my headaches and toothaches and .... other pains that we girls have - I take medicines with that exact substance in them!!! So........maybe it's better that I'm not going because with the first killer pains .... I would have died.....and screamed......and ..... the EXORCIST would have been a children movie compared to how I would have screamed .... It could have been an ugly picture!!!

alina

Going round in circles and thinking back of everything you have lost if not going to help anyone and will only turn you views into nothing but bitter comments. I am sure if you made it through, your opinions would be different. Rest assured that you were good enough to make it so far with EY whilst others are even struggling to get there. Take it as a learning experience and if its something you really want to do then try again. If not, then walk away knowing you tried.

If you are planning to live, and make a career, in a foreign country, especially a middle-eastern country, you may find that it pays to do a little bit of research about it before you apply?

Being "beautiful" is not actually essential for the job of Cabin Crew - There are many other significantly more important qualities required. For example, the ability to take refusal without throwing a temper tantrum or the ability to do some research before applying.

for alina_daneasa

Alina thanks a lot for the interview details. I'm sorry you didn't pass.
Sorry, my mistake, my interview is tomorrow. I'm really nervous, but at least tomorrow I'll know whether I passed or not.
Strange that they told you about the job in March, cause the recruitment company from Romania - Protos)) told us that we will start in January.
Well at least for me it's a chance to escape. And if I would had a romanian pasport, I would be in europe))

I'll tell when I have the news.
Iana

hi Harry

Hey Harry,

Thanks a lot for your tip. I'm really interested in what questions do they have?
And what subjects do they give you to speak about?
I didn't practice my english a lot of time, I'm afraid to mess something.
Well I don't have anything to lose, at least I'll try.
What bothers me, is that I thought that my nice appearance will help, but I see it doesn't matter.

Thank you

To my baby Alina:-)

Hi baby! Don`t give up hope! As said before lots of good and qualified people got rejected and you don`t know why! The recruitment officers have special lessons where they learn which type of candidate woul suit to the company! You don`t need to be beautiful as wea all are but what I wanna say is that they have this special criteria!! In my opinion your mistake was talking too much during group activities! I remeber when I was at the Emirates Open Day last year!!! I was quiet but said some good things and I tol to a nice girl (she was egyptian) that she should not talk too much and she asked me If I was making a fool of her but finally sghe also did not talk too much and we both made it to the next stage....what I achieved was helping her and a kiss from that beautiful girl:-) unfortunately she failed after English test and I proceeded until final Interview! Ok back to Etihad!!! Guys!! i really think that Etihad and Emirates work together in recruiting people or in developing new recruitment processes to find the most suitable candidates!!! It might be true!!!!!!!It is difficult to know what they want! I saw the worst people I have ever seen getting the job and I was wondering why not me??????? You can only try and try again until you come in and find out!!!! Don`tgive up hope Alina! I don`t think that you would be glad so far away from your husband and your son! It is easier said than done!!!! The beyt to all of us!!!!!
