wannabeAvirgin, after your interview everyone hears at different times.
I had my interview on the 27th nov and i heard 8 days later that i got the job and another girl who went on the same day as me heard 2 days later!!! So it really depends. I start training on the 5th feb but i asked for that date for personal reasons. At that time they were recruiting for the course starting
8th jan, your training course starts usually around 4-5 weeks after your interview. As for the reference form you have to fill that in and bring it with you to your interview and give it to them. Good luck with interview!

a lot of people who currently work for virgin have said that richard branson personally would never have trousers for the women as part of the virgin uniform. now, i know that dickie branson himself wouldnt be at the interview, but i think you would make a much better impression if you wore a skirt. plus this way the recruiters can kind of see what you would look like in the uniform.

What to wear

I always find tight swimwear and a pair of doctor martens create a unique impression.

And of course is unisex.

Hope that helps and bon chance

'head in clouds'..... what do you think may have been a possible cause of them turning you down? Can you remember the questions they asked you?

Im so nervous. I have my interview on the 4th of January. I only applied a week and a bit ago and to be honest, i wasn't expecting to get an interview till at least february. I've only got two weeks to prepare. Really really nervous. Any tips from anyone out there labout the kind of stuff they'll ask would be much appreciated.x.

Hi Sumeya

I think the problem could have been with my past employer. They ask for you to write the sickness for 2 years. I felt I did we'll in the interview and have looked back and honestly I walked out of the interview I was quite happy with it. The questions were based on customer service (the usual) which I have loads of so it wasn't that. However, I was in my last job for 3 months and 2 of them I was off sick for a medical condition in and out of hospital. Then the shop closed and I was out of a job as I couldn't go to the one they offered me. I admit for a new employer looking at the amount of sick leave I had for that employer it does look bad but it was for a genuine reason.

I will get a temp job for 6 months and reapply so I can prove it was a one off and that I really want to work for Virgin. It has not put me off I will reapply. Just be yourself and you'll be fine. The day is a fun one and the hard bit is afterward. Let us know how you get on. Give me 6 months and I'll be with ya

'for head in clouds'

'Head in the clouds' Hun I am sorry You were unsuccessful with virgin, I still dont understand that though, They made you do the whole interview, they usually look into your references only if you are offered the job. I cannot remember on the reference form questions about sick day, you had that question on application form, but they still gave you an interview. They usually look at the ref sheet before 2-2-1. So i am totally confused by it all. Anyway babe, you will get it next time. Fingers crossed for you. This was my second attempt xx

A Few Urgent Questions, Please Help All!!!

Guys i totally need some help with a couple of questions.I would appreciate it if someone can try 2 answer a few for me. I am having 2nd thoughts about accepting my offer, i actually worked out the pay for new starters is roughly about 849 a mth but if you add tax to that it becomes around 660 per month .I know there is flight allowance but that is like 36.40 or so per return flight.

Burning Questions

1. Does anybody know how much tax can be? I figured about 190pm. And the yearly pay 10,185 is actually the amount before tax is taken off right?

2.The whole standby thing. If in general one does 3-7 flights a mth, thats about 2 a week or so.(to destination, and back) So standyby flights is that overtime flights? meaning you may not get your 9 days off a mth?that you May have to work on your day off, Or is standby just part of your 1 flight, there and back weekly routine anyway?
(But it's for covering someone who is sick etc, i get that part, what its for) LOL!

3. final quezzy guys, is (do flights run 24/7, 7 days a week? I know the earliest flight can be 9.30am. But what can the latest flight be, can you have a flight that leaves at 3am, 1am etc, all through the earling morning hours uk time?

Thankyou Lovely's xx

airhostessdream, i dont work for virgin atlantic but i do work as cabin crew and what you are saying about standbys is the airline industry in general.

say you are on standby one day, with a day off the next. yes, if you're called out on your standby then you will lose your day off the next day. but you will b e given days off when you get back. it just means you cant really plan ANYTHING in this industry. same as on short haul. if your standby finishes at 7pm, you could be called at 6.55pm and have to do a night flight and if you had plans that evening you can forget them lol!

and yeh flights do run 24/7, so u can generally forget xmas, new years, birthdays, weddings and all sorts!! but hey, its for the love of the job we do this aint it!!

Hey Airhostessdream,

Well tax will be worked out on £10185 after your yearly tax free allowance is taken off which is around £5080 so you will pay tax on £5105 but only 10%, allowances etc are given to you downroute cash in hand so i don't think you pay tax on those. You will def get more than £660 put into your bank account so don't worry about that, i think it'll be in the region of around
£800 and then on top of that you will have your allowances which you can also save.

You will do a max of 6 flights a month, the average varies between 4-6 flights a month, if you do 6 you wont be required to do more. Virgin have standby months now, where you are on standby for a whole month rather than a few days at a time each month. You do not work on your allocated days off so don't worry.

Flights run 7 days a week, the first flight from heathrow leaves at 9am i think for New york and the last one leaves at around 10.30pm, crew have to check in 2 hours before their flights.
From gatwick all flights have left by lunchtime with the first one being again around 9am.
Virgin don't have flights that leave in the middle of the night.

Hope this helps!

HI airhostessdream

When I had done the maths test we had to fill in the baa ID form and another with general questions about sickness which wasn't on the new app. form (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong. If so that could of been the problem, looked as if I was avoiding the question, which is not so) but I think if you got the job offer then go for it. I think that wage is just during training but you get more once flying.

People say that the money isn't great but the benefits are. I believe the roster they give and the travel you can do with them is worth it but its your decision and what makes you happy is best. Good Luck. Hope I'll be flying with you soon.

Allowances Down Route

Any current crew able to give us an idea of the allowances. Obviously it greatly depends on where you are going. But some examples JFK, HKG, NRT, SYD etc... would be great.

Also what is the best and worst trips in your opinion?

It's not on the new application form -- but I'm worried about this thing in general as my employer doesn't give out that detailed information on employee's (past or present) so what happens if they ask my previous employer and they can't / don't give it out? Will I get refused the job just because of legal grounds of my past employers?

Questions to your old employer

Don't worry about it. Virgin specifically inform the past employer when requesting references that they only have to give dates worked and to include a paragraph stating you are of good character.

does anybody out there have an interview on the 4th of January for cabin crew?

also can anyone who recently gave an interview give me any examples of what to expect during the day? how long does it last?

What kind of things did you have to do during the group assessment?

Some examples of the maths test?

what sort of questions did they ask you in the 2-2-1 interview and how long did it last?

all help would be much appreciated.x.

Airhostess dream,

Vodkaholic is wrong, our flights do NOT run 24/7.

As earlier mentioned the checkin times are between 0730 and 2030 daily.

You would be MAD to turn the job down!
