airhostessdream, i dont work for virgin atlantic but i do work as cabin crew and what you are saying about standbys is the airline industry in general.
say you are on standby one day, with a day off the next. yes, if you're called out on your standby then you will lose your day off the next day. but you will b e given days off when you get back. it just means you cant really plan ANYTHING in this industry. same as on short haul. if your standby finishes at 7pm, you could be called at 6.55pm and have to do a night flight and if you had plans that evening you can forget them lol!
and yeh flights do run 24/7, so u can generally forget xmas, new years, birthdays, weddings and all sorts!! but hey, its for the love of the job we do this aint it!!
