HI GUYS
Thinking of going to pattaya in feb with the family, if anyone would be kind enough to give me some feedback on the place i would very much appreciate it...thinking of staying at the Dusit resort hotel.

I would recommend Pattaya for a footy social, but not for a nice holi with the family.
Look at any of the following
Hua Hin
Phuket
Koh Phi Phi
Koh Samui
Never been to U-tahpao (spelling surely incorrect) but it always looks nice from the air. (Mind you so does Pattaya)
Khao Lak is nice, and quieter than Phuket, but was devestated by the tsunami.
Any particular reason you want Thailand?

Wherever you go, make sure you check if it is wet season or not, and pay particular note to local effects.
Phuket and Koh Samui are relatively close (on a hemispherical scale) yet experience markedly different weather at certain times of the year.

Haven't been to Pattaya but heard it is more a singles place. We stayed at the Dusit at Phuket, that was very nice and I would be happy to take my grandchildren there. I have also stayed at the Dusit at Hua Hin, the hotel was ok but overall Phuket was much better.

Pattaya ! Not a good place for family even for singles; only if you are looking for the cheapest dirtiest sex.
Dusit at Phuket is great I had the same great time there. Koh Samui is a bit more hi-end and the best beach houses to rent if with a family.

Pattaya is famous for "he-she's". Not a place i would go with the family, try one of the islands instead.
When are you going to Dubai? Its bloody hot from now until oct, not enjoyable at all, all the expats leave during this time.

I live close to Pattaya. All the comments made about the place herein are pretty true but you said that you were thinking of staying at the Dusit Resort which is at the far end of the beach (northern end) and as far away as is possible from Walking Street where much of the 'adult' action is taking place.
If you are a couple and you have kids with you the activities of the local 'ladies' should not be a bother.
Also, as a couple out and about in the evenings, no problem and you may enjoy watching the frantic activity.
Pattaya is the oldest of Thailands resorts. It is now grown from a fishing village in the 70's to the second largest city in Thailand after Bangkok so it isn't as Picturesque as (say) Samui or other more southern islands.
The Dusit Resort is set in it's own grounds and fenced. There is a private beach and swimming pool. Even if you don't want to venture out into town (and that would be a pity coz it's a fun place) you will find everything you need inside the resort itself.
Just be careful late at night. There is crime just as there is anywhere in the world so don't go off the beaten track and take taxis wherever possible. There are hundreds of (so called) baht buses - the pickups with covered seating in the cargo tray - and if necessary you can arrange your own transport with the Dusit.

Def give Pattaya a miss. Especially if you are with your family. I totally agree with the above posts.

Everyone carries personal biases, but I was in Pattaya for a few days in September and HATED it!
If you want city life, stick to Bangkok.
If you want beaches, go to Koh Pang Nghan or Samui.
If you want to see teenage prostitutes hanging off the arms of western 60-somethings then go to Pattaya.
It's not a pleasant place!
I have to say that even as a fairly liberal 20year old I found it all too seedy, expensive (compared to many other 'resorts') and busy.
Basically, I would compare it to Playa de las Americas or Benidorm but 12hours further away!
I know its a different ball game, but I went to Thailand for a month last september, spent £400 on flights and £500 on accomodation, food etc FOR A MONTH - That is staying in reasonable bungalows, taking internal flights and drinking plenty of Singha! I also had the added benefit of being able to go wherever, whenever.
If you are able to, I would 'go it alone' - scrap the package deal. It sounds like a VERY expensive package you are looking at!
Whatever you do - ENJOY!!

Dusit is a great place
The Dusit is a great hotel, it's self contained and the right end of town. Just keep out of South Pattaya it's not dangerous but not for a family.
Pattaya is surrounded by many fantastic Islands and has a host of things for family entertainment inc water parks etc.

Funny, I was actually taken when I was young (15) to Pattaya. My younger sister and I had a lot of fun. We spent the summer in Bangkok and Chaing Mai, then went for a weekend.
At the time, being a young teenager in the early 80's, (maybe I was naive), but really didn't notice a lot of what was going on. There weren't too many hookers on the water slides, if ya know what I mean. It may be quite different now, but as i said, we enjoyed it quite a bit.
The relative that took my sister and I on vacation that summer is a native Thai, so maybe he knew what to steer us away from. ???

I have just come back from Hua Hin in Thailand about 2 hours drive from Bangkok.
I stayed at the Dusit Resort & Polo Club there and when I contacted them directly they gave me a 50% discount on the room rate.
Excellent room overlooking the pool and the sea. The resort is right on the beach and it is nice to have a beach where nobody is trying to sell you anything.
It is one of the most relaxing hotels I have stayed in with excellent service and great food. It also has a spa which is a bit expensive but if you are looking for something special then a day there is bliss.
As it is on the outskirts of the town, there is a regular shuttle bus that goes into town or you can get private transport from the hotel for about 200 baht.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Everyone knows what goes on in Pattaya but it's not as in ya face as people make out. There are undoubtedlly places where you can view lewd acts and participate, but the management certainly wont let kidz near the place. If you want filth it's there, if you don't then it's easily avoided. I've taken my family there 2 times and we go again in august. My kidz luv sitting at the bars playing games with the bar girls and they haven't a clue what the girls there for. The girls know when to be discreeet. Go for it, you won't regret it.

Others have said it and I will too - don't take your family to Pattaya. It is not, repeat not, a family resort. If you end up there unknowing as we did you can find some pleasant activities for a day or so. But you now know better.
