So let me get this straight, you have always wanted to work for Qantas as overseas slave labour?
Do you have the option of coming back to a permanent position in Australia in the future?
One of my girlfriends works out of AKL and I have seen her pay slips and let me just say you can earn more working for Eastern and thats saying something. The only real money you will earn is through your hotel allowances upline, the rest of your pay is far inferior then your Australian counterparts.
All you need is a few African trips on your roster with next to no real hotel allowance once converted and we will see if this is what you have always wanted.

This so sad.
jettlager how old are you.....5? build a bridge and get over it and if you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all because i'm sure we are all really sick of hearing it.
Midnight good luck with training and your FA career in Auckland i'm sure you will love it!

Midnight-63!
Congratulations, Dont worry about what others have to say....some people can't seem to hack things these days.
It's easy for them to talk now....but I'am sure if they were in the same situation as you (and they wanted to become a flight attendant) they would take any offer, regardless of the pay.
I would personally do it for free if I was offered the chance!
Anyway, why can't people just be nice???
Take care

Firstly congrats to you all who were offered permanent positions, whether u are a 'scab' or not. You've obviously got what they want so well done!
I went for a group interview in brissie on the 24th of september last year. About 4 weeks later i was contacted saying i forgot to sign one of the dotted lines (woooops!) so it was faxed to me an i faxed it back signed. then that was it. nothing.
I had decided in the meantime not to accept the position once i was aware it was as a strikebreaker, and when the dispute was resolved i figured theyd just thrown all our applications out the window and i forgot about it.
Then this morning i got a phone call telling me i have been successful and would i like to come to a panel interview on 26th Jan (more than 4 months after my original interview). They told me all that stuff about no positions but will be waitlisted if successful and would i be interested in MAM.
So i have a few questions.
a) does anyone know what goes on in these panel interviews cos ive never been to one let alone a real job interview (minus the group thingy)
b) what is MAM????? Youre probably all laughing at me... go ahead... but i have no idea...
Thanks............!!!!!!!!

Well done Midnight and all others that have received what they wanted!
I got a letter saying that my interview was successful and I would be on the waitlist for six months. I get the feeling that this was a mass generated letter though.. I have heard that some people have not got through though too.
As for the Jesski's question.... I think that you will probably have an interview similiar to mine. It will involve a panel interview with 2 online cabin crew and a multiple choice quiz (personality thing) and then if you are successful there you are sent off to a medical and ASIC/criminal check.
Mam is a contract company that QF employs for casual flight attendants.

Mam people dont get any travel benefits but are trained like all other cabin crew in QF. (If you dont get benefits.... then it nearly not worth it!)

Hmm... I'd argue with that ....
I started off as an 11 month fixed term contractor in Long Haul which means no staff travel (but everything else is the same).
Whilst staff travel would have been ace - its the job I primarily enjoy - not the fringe benefits.
I'd take whatever they offer you - I'm being made permanent ongoing as of next month. Which isn't bad, considering "I would never ever be made permanent" 7 months ago when I started with Qantas....
All the best

Crop Dust,
I received that letter aswell and as you said its quite obvious it was mass generated...........what do you think the chances are of them offering us anything within the six months? I personally think our chances are slim and its just QF's way of sugar coating everything like they always do.
ozskipper,
Congrats on being made permanant!!!

How were the letters sent? Were they emails or paper letters?
Congrats to all who have a position. I re-iterate my disgust at how some people have been treated, being told that you cant apply for a position and then recruitment starts son after that is a bit silly.
Good luck to all out there

You obviously don't deserve the job, because you are quite obviously only there for the travel benefits!!! There are thousands of people that don't care about the benefits and want the job just for the job. The travel benefits are only a bonus, if you are only attracted to the job in the first place just by the travel benefits, then you better start looking elsewhere!
Ozskipper,
congratulations, so have they actually said and contract signed that you are going to be a permanent full time Qantas employee or is it just fixed term and then they will review it again after a certain amount of time?

It is a good question whether we will be asked to anything within the six months... I am holding onto a glimmer of hope still but....
OZ... I can see what you are saying and- point taken. But, I was just giving information. AND, I did say that it is only 'nearly' not worth it.
Having staff travel is important, especially for the ones that are overseas in LHR or AKL or not in their hometown to be able to touch home now and then and to actually see family and friends. I need more time than an overnight to do this.
The reasons that I want to do the job are numerous. Not just for the benefits.

Ozcabincrew....
Definately permanent ongoing contract. Signed before Christmas and comes into effect next month.
Mind you, I have to go to London for 2 years as a condition of the permanent contract.
Essentially, I'm employed as a permanent employee, then given 2 years without pay to work for Qantas Cabin Crew UK, then I return to a permanent job.
Whilst moving to the UK at short notice isn't ideal, it's kinda worked out ok.
