Galleyhag is right, the meetings will be for f/a's of the qantas group and not shortlisters or MAM'ers. Qantas crew striked many years ago for the right for their regional colleagues to get a career progression program and they, just like their regional colleagues do not want to see anything happen to each other.

QantasLink crews are concerned for our short haul "cousins", we will support you just like you will support us.

Sorry for my rant - just wanted to make that clear !

Sorry for the delay...I have another life away from pprune

Ok, I will do my best in point form to answer some questions posted during my absence.
* Yes, I'am concerned for short haul flying as it stands.
* Yes, I think there will be job losses over a long period of time.
* Yes, MAM will conduct some classes in the new year or earlier to cover the new dropping of hours for s/h as of Jan 2004. Currently there is not enough casuals in SYD or MEL to cover the estimated amount of hours released.
*BNE or ADL is still the favorite for the new LCC withh both state governments pitching hard.
*Many decissions are still to be made as Service Development has just got it's first brief this week.
*People on the short list will be used if crew are required especially language speakers. There is no current requirement for fulltime crew
*Three names are doing the executive rounds at the moment, all sound good. Board approval in Nov.
*Am I worried for my long term employment. yes, in it's current state and the money I earn.
*All LCC recruitment will be run by seperate company same as Australian, who run there own show with there own selection standard "lets not go back there"
*MAM casuals will probaly get preference in new LCC recruitment process.
*Do I think the BNE s/h base will be around in 5 years, No but thats just me looking at the business model unfolding in front of me.
*Do I think there will be progression into s/h for linkers, No I think it's a thing of the past as there will be no where to progress to in 3 years. They are looking to shrink not inflate s/h in current enviroment.
*L/H union is already talking about the removal of divisional transfers as there will be no where to transfer to the way things are playing out.
*Sorry for any short listers that have been waiting for so long, the market has changed so much in the last 12 months with Virgin going from 12% to 30% so the qantas expasion plans a year ago don't mirror the cost model of compertition today.

I must be careful how much I give away here as people are openly asking me at work if I'am Peanut Pusher. It's not hard to work out once you start putting some info I put up for your information plus my profile. Once I breech the confidence of people who give me inside info as they come across it, I'll loose there contact forever.
Then you cop a spray for being busy and actually working, so you then ask yourself "is it worth getting in trouble from both sides of this fence" ? , I think you know the answer

Good bye & good luck to everybody, hope to see you in the air
Remember never give up on your dreams

Talking

Thanks Peanut Pusher,

You're information is always appreciated, especially as it is given freely to people you have no obligation to.

And on that note I would just like to add my 2 cents worth and say to those with a bit of attitude on this board, please tone it down.

It is not PP's fault that changes are being made in the industry that effect your life. Speaking from experience in this job if you can't cope with misinformation, the rules changing every second of the day and the uncertainty of your life as you know it today, then you are barking up the wrong career tree and it's time to check out something nice and safe. Flying is not about knowing everything all the time so you better get used to it.

I can understand the frustration everyone is feeling ( I'm waiting too ) but I don't understand targeting one person who is actually putting themselves out for you in the first place. There is risk involved here and if someone goes out on a limb for you then generally speaking it's not the done thing to attack them for it. And lets not forget that this person is facing the same change and uncertainty in their life as well. Just because they know it before you doesn't make that change any easier to bear. I think too many people hide behind their anonymity on this forum, I don't think ( or I hope ) that they wouldn't be so rude face to face. And again if you would be then you are definitely looking at the wrong career.

I hope that PP stays with us because if it were me with the info and I was given all this attitude I'd be packing my bags and taking all my info with me.

Peanut Pusher,

Thankyou so much for putting an end to the endless questions raised since you first posted. I am just amazed at how many questions you have responded to!

I respect and appreciate how careful you have to be with regards to what information you are able to give out.

I would have to agree, the information posted here from you has been more than is accessible to MOST line flight attendants and receiving this info has been more than appreciated by many.

Regards,

Qwannas

Peanut Pusher

Thank you for your information and I totally agree with both of the posts above. You have done ALL of us a favour by adding some light to our questions. Thank you. Well done.
I can understand that it must be hard to have others approach you at work and ask "Are you peanut pusher?". You are also right that you have been trusted with confidential information and you have gone 'out on a limb' to provide inside information to people you don't know nor have meet. You have risked your integrity to do so. I respect you.
For now you have to make the decision to continue or go silent. That is YOUR choice. I support you and Thank-you for your correspondance and time.
Three cheers for Peanut Pusher!
Happy Flying,
Airbust

Not long now....

Hi!

I had to speak with QF HR today again and they indicated that final details to pending training schools will be confirmed in the next two days or so-As always Peanut Pusher was right, the ground schools will be for Casual Short-haul at this stage, they denied any long-haul training was happening.

That's all I was told-am sure those who get a call will post something-I will....am worried that when I do finally get THE call,I won't be excited as the wait has seemed like eternity!

Fingers crossed!

haha franck ! It's Qantas ! They do what ever is opposite to the logical way of doing things. No-one knows what happens in that HR office at the Qantas QCC building in SYD - it's a mystery - I dare say the poor ******s in HR also get stuffed around themselves by Qantas, not knowing what is going on from one day to the next.

I was emailed a very interesting article today which further confirms the rumours of eastern and sunstate becoming "one" - however they say our jobs are safe Will this mean that eastern and sunstate crew will all be competing together in time to come for progression to mainline - if any !!!!! I just laugh when I read all this doom and gloom now - can't say I have read a positive thing at work lately about the company or job security. I just can't wait until the details of the LCC are advised - that way we all know where we stand and can make some career decisions pronto.

Qantas to lay-off regional staff’ report claims
Qantas is reportedly set to shed hundreds of jobs in its regional airlines as concerns mount over the future of country flights.

A report in The Sydney Morning Herald said many of the job losses will take place in provincial centres.

But the newspaper said Qantas had pledged to maintain its existing regional flight routes.

The report claimed that after a six-month cost-cutting review, prompted by last year's absorption of Impulse, Qantas' five regional divisions operating under the QantasLink umbrella will be folded into two -- one for jets and one for turbo-prop flights.

The Herald said that would result in lay-offs with the carrier moving to centralise its accounting and ticketing operations. The report claimed pilots and flight attendants would be safe.

QantasLink, which includes Eastern, AirLink, Sunstate, and AirConnex, employs more than 2000 workers and operates 2500 flights a week.

QF Skywalker - This may be a good thing for Sunstate crew if you are folded into 1 airline and that being Eastern as you will not be going to Eastern but directly to Qantas.

As you know when Southern was folded into Eastern the FAAA pulled out an old document from their hat which stated something along the lines of an airline being disolved you get direct entry to mainline thus without senority.

Therefore if you are absorbed into Eastern you will not be going just like Southern crew.

However - what they state in the article has been happening for some 12 months now with the regionals and you will find that all accounting, administration etc is now centralised under 1 roof already for Eastern and Sunstate. Furthermore after what QF were forced to do with Southern flight attendants it was decided to maintain Flight Attendants under their respective companies and EBA's just centralise all other administrative operations.

But you never know what Qantas has up its sleeve. But if they try to employ you regional guys under anything other than your respective airlines you will join Qantas in the same way Southern crew did.

Email from QF

Hey, congrats Wing8! Glad to hear of another positive story!

I just got another courtesy email from Qantas today - still on the shortlist, keep everything up to date and they will let me know if anything changes in the near future.

Anyone else get one of these?

Yep GH but I understand that the progression thing you're talking about only applies if the airline ceases to exist (as was the case with Southern) and is absorbed into another company (ie. Eastern). However if Eastern and Sunnies merge then the above does not apply.

At least this is how it was recently explained to me.

A little birdie has informed me that the integration of Eastern and Sunnies is already underway but still a fair way off due to differences in procedures and policies.

On a completely different note, congratulations Wing8! All the best for your training school, great to see your patience paid off!

Safe flying,
SG
