Mmm007, thanks! You mention that you showed them about 10 pictures at the time of the final interview, how many pictures did you show them at the OD? (i hear that's when we're supposed to hand them the two pics along with our CV). Was that your case and is that usually the case?

While all of your questions are good and valid questions, MOST of them are clearly answered already on the EK Employee website. i suggest just reading all the materials with which EK has provided you already, you will get much better answers than on here.

also you should not worry about stuff like what sort of food you're going to get on flights yet. is that affecting your decision to apply? you have MUCH more important things to worry about!

Mmm007, is it really necesary to have the passport photo instead of the close up casual? I thought i read somewhere that a casual close up shot would also do, and that the passport photos were only mandatory at the FI.

You will need all the photos only on FI: one full length business attire, 6 passport size business attire (they must be the same -the full length and passport size, I mean) and some casual ones. Usually they need 2 casual photos, but take some more with you so they could choose. For example they took 3 from me. They will also need colored copies of your passport, copy of your highest educational certificate and prove of current emplyment, if you are currently employed. It can be anything-certifacte, pay slip, whatever. These are the documents you will need if you reach FI. So it is better to be prepared. Otherwise you can always send whatever is missing afterwards, but if you give them everything during FI it will speed up the process.
Hope it helps. Good luck

Thanks Scarlett24!

I have my OD just in two days, for those who had theirs in a Spanish speaking country, was the whole interaction with the recruiters in Spanish? All English? Or is it in English just when you handle your CV to them and do your English test? (people from any country that is non Spanish speaking can feel free to share, please!) I just mentioned Spanish first because my OD is in Mexico City.

For those of you speaking a third language, did they have somebody talk to you in that language to kind of check out how you well you speak it? In my case, French is my third language so if anyone got to speak French with a recruiter by all means share your experience with me

the whole process is in English. They even stress it out that nobody can speak any other languages, especially during group discussions.
About checking how well you can speak your third language-if one of them speaks the same language as you do maybe they can check. Otherwise it is impossible, I guess. They will write down only the languages you can speak fluently, for the time being they have to trust you on that, maybe they will test you later on in Dubai.
Good luck

About foreign languages...they told us we have to be 100% sure into declaring that we speak some language as they will give you test once you arrive in Dubai to check it...and if you lied its not gonna be ok. So you better not declare languages that you are not 100% comfortable speaking...it does not affect your application...they have enough people from all over the world...I only declared English (and my mother tongue) and got the job, though I speak basic German and Spanish.

Doubts OD Emirates

Good evening everyone. I'm an italian guy attending his OD in Milan this saturday. I'd like to collect as many informations as possible to have a good rate to pass this first examination.
I 've already all the pictures needed (full body and passport size), both my italian and english CV and a cover letter.
I'd like to know exactly what do I have to expect during that day.
I read on the web that there will be an english interview and an English written exam.
Anything else?
I'd like to pass it due to my will to work for such a great Aircompany like Emirates is.

Thaks everyone

hey man,

please note that in my experience you will NOT be having any interviews or tests on the OD. There will be many people there, and they will use this day to decide who they want to interview based on your presentation and appearance. You will have about 45 seconds to speak with a recruiter while you hand in your CV/photos. Therefore the most important thing on this day is outward appearance and politeness.

If they like your look, they will call you back on the next day, and then you will be doing a series of group activities to see how you interact with others. again, your appearance is important, but today your personality is more important. On this day you will also have an English test. you should do fine based on your post in English. Candidates will be eliminated in 3 stages throughout the day, so you will know how you're progressing.

If you reach the end of the day, then you will be called back yet again for the Final Interview someday that week. (monday, tuesday, or wednesday). Until now, you will not have had any close interaction with the recruiters, and this is the stage in which your real credentials and background are most important (along with your appearance and personal skills).

THEN you have to wait for a long time and complete medical tests if they ask you to.

Dress sharply, shave your face, and have your hair and nails neatly groomed. No shiny/wet looking hair. You should have not problem getting through the first round, as Italians tend to be very well dressed and groomed :-)

Be confident and calm, and SMILE carino!

As for your documents/photos, do not staple them, just paper clip them.

Good luck and hope to see you up there!

Thank you very much for your hints.
According to your experiences now I have clearer ideas. I'll try to do my best to impress recruiters both phisically and both for my skills.
So......fingers crossed

I have a very small tatoo in the inner side of my right wrist...Do you think this could penalize me?
No one notice it while I'm wearing shirt or business dress and I could cover it wearing a watch on the "wrong" side of my hand.

Thank you again for the infos

Best regards

Hey

The tattoo could prevent employment, I am not sure as I do not make the decisions, but there are rules against tattoos on your arms. it is up to the discretion of the company, and you must declare any tattoos and don't lie about it (you will be checked upon arrival to Dubai).

tattoos will not be allowed if they are visible in the EK uniform, but during the training period you have to wear a short-sleeved shirt so this may present a problem, but as I said it is up to the company/recruiter.

ciao!

@Alessia

For me, it was about situations in my job and how I overcame them.

Example: When have worked well within a team?

I said that I did this everyday and gave different examples, however, they were only after ONE major example.
I froze and couldn't think of anything so just kept on pushing what I did everyday.
And you had actually tell them what you how you said something in a conversation.
Not "Oh I told this coworker that they were wrong", but "Coworker, I believe you are wrong".
They wanted all of details, although they did have to cut me off a few times so they get the specific details that they wanted.

I was asked:
-When did I go out of my way for a customer?
-How have you handled a disgruntled customer?
-When have you had to work with someone difficult?
-How have you interacted with people from different cultures?
-When have worked well within a team?
-And how do you like your job and your coworkers?

Quick question...

Quick question with regards to study support from Emirates...the site says Emirates will support pre-approved degrees and courses with relevance to the job, what does this entail exactly?

What kind of courses do they support? For example, would they support me in learning a language or something like that? Where could you do something like that in Dubai?

Also, how long would one be with the company before starting study?

Thanks all
