Open Day Ireland
Hi I am planning to attend the open day in Galway Ireland on the 30th of October. Anybody else attending this?
I know its business attire that must be worn but can anyone give me guidance on hair and makeup, should u go natural eyes and red lipstick or more toned down?
also if anyone can give me an idea of what the timetable for an open day is, like that happens throughout the day? and how soon after the open day is it likely that a FI could happen? Just trying to figure time lines as where i work now they are being very difficult about approving annual leave!!

As far as I know only one company out there handles the iphone4 and thats etisalat mobile. You can go on their website to look at their packages
iPhone
Also, you just have to get your phone unlocked so it can be used but if I read correctly there are places in Dubai that can unlock your phone for as low as 50AED.
Medicals
There's a list of the medical exams they asked for in this thread. Just type "medicals" in the search option of this thread or you can go to the thread created before this one (here). I would advice you to start now because I've heard/read stories on here with people waiting up to 1.5 weeks to get an appointment not even including the wait for results especially for the PAP smear and you have only 2 weeks to complete your medical exams.
Also, when you receive your GC you may not have access to the portal right away. Sometimes it can take up to 4-5 days before you gain access to it. So, don't worry if you cant go on it immediately.

My medical was like 40 questions on medical history, Chest Xray, HIV,Syphillis,Hep B & hemoglobin (emimia) test ... Full dental examination inc xrays ... and just when youve had your injections and the top up date ... There is something about an eye test IF you wear contacts or something too... but, I didnt have to do this ... Hope this gives you a rough idea... I got my GC on a thurs and recieved contract etc on the sunday ... remember theyre 'off' on fri & sat for their weekend ...
Looper::
As for assessment days ... god kow what theyre looking for!! Lol, I wore my hair up in a bun and hardly any make up ... with the signature red lippy ... I attended the Liverpool AD which was slightly anoying as I applied online in FEB and they asked me to attend an interview JUL (and the fact I just drove nearly 7hrs!!), only to find out it was like a CV drop off thing; they give an overview of the company and Dubai ... then call you back to the AD the next day if they 'want to see you' ... I was split into the afternoon group, we were split into two rooms (two groups) and had to talk about the person to our right and identify the pro's and con's on living in Dubai and present them to the other group ... They hardly let anyone go in the afternoon group and I think only 1/2 didnt get a FI date ... Best of luck, just be your self and im sure you'll do fine ... Hope this helps =)

Not quite there yet
Hello!
First of all, thanks for all the info at this forum. I've spent the whole Sunday reading! Also, congrats to those who got their GCs lately!!!
I have a slight concern, which perhaps is nothing, but I will still post it here. Just in case
I am extremly interested in working as a FA and Emirates seems like the obvious company to apply for! (I've been thinking about Qatar as well, but they seem more strict, overall...) Thing is, at the moment I'm still at university. I'll be finished at the end of next spring.
I'm so excited over applying that I went to Emirates website and created an account. And started to fill out an application for the OD in Helsinki (nearest one to Stockholm for now). But then it hit me that maybe I shouldn't send it in. Because, first of all, I won't be able to attend that interview and it's quite some time left until I graduate after all (+ I might go abroad for a semester next fall as well)....
So now my question; if I leave my application incomplete for 3 months, so it will be invalid (and hopefully removed?) would it make a difference for future applications? It seems like there is no way to "cancel" or "remove" the application once you've started....
In short; should I be worried?
I'm too excited for my own best, I notice now
Thanks once again for some entertaining reading

You are not given a sim card, but it's easy enough to get one.
There are either plans or prepaid accounts for both operators here (Etisalat & Du)
It costs about 75dh for a SIM card. You can get one with a copy of your passport and temporary visa.
The only exception I know of was in Nad Al Sheba when the buildings were new and there were no landlines yet installed the company provided a mobile phone that crew could be cntacted on.
BBM works, after RIM worked out a deal with the government. Download the video calling one before you come. If you want a VPN, get it before you leave.
Most phone models can be purchased either bundled with a plan (by operators) or unlocked and useable on any network.
There are places you can get phones unlocked for a fee. If you can pass on your phone to someone else to take on the plan and buy one here, great. If not, it might depend on your provider if you can unlock it or not.
Electrical outlets are either UK 3 plug or Euro 2 plug. Adaptors are easily available here.
For more info try etisalat.ae it has all the info on the plans and costs etc.
I use data on a prepaid sim card separate to my 'regular' phone which is just a basic Nokia. I use 20dhs a month on the prepaid one and I've never run it out before the expiry date of one month. That's used for BookFace, emails etc
Ipads are similar, can get data plans or prepaid for them too.

Dear LMNJ
100 years ago, I went to a Flight School in order to start my Flight Attendant training course.
I could picture myself wearing a wonderful uniform, perfect make up and walking nosing up with my carrying on.
The first question I was asked was: How tall are you please?
And in a blink of eyes my career as a Flight Attendant was born death.
I cried for a week or so, eating chocolate in front at the TV….and I sow a helicopter in a TV show.
I called back the school and ask...How tall must I be to be a Helicopter Pilot?
She answered….there is no height restriction for that, but…I don’t know any female helicopter pilot.
My answer was….ok, you are talking to the first one though!
That was the best restriction I have ever had.
Nowadays I hold 5 international ATPL(H) licenses.
Sometimes, life gives you a painful NO because you have to look to another way.
So LMNJ, if stretches your arms do not works for you, just try to stretches you point of view!
Feel free to PM me, even in Portuguese if you like.
Best of luck!!

Dont worry and dont let that get you down. Im not very tall and I made it to the final interviews. I have seen several FA's who work for Emirates who look about 160cm and with the heels on. Im sure you will be fine
Heres a tip. You know those plastic cushion covers ladies wear on the soles under their feet for comfort when wearing heels? Place one under each sole and put your stockings on
It will give you a little more height
And good luck. Dont give up

Please help :)
At my final interview. I did not have proof that i had finished high school with me because i started high in Fiji than went on to finish high schoool i New Zealand and now living in Perth, Australia so it never occured to me have proof that I have finished school. I now work for the Government so I did not think I would need it.
Right after my final interview I mailed my old high schools and got letters etc from them stating that i did infact finish high school. I than sent them onto emirates recruitment.
But I am not sure if they have received them.
But I have received the Image and Uniform standards form, I have already completed and sent that back to them.
My question is. If they have sent me the image and uniform standards form, does this mean they have received everything they need?
Any feedback would be highly appreciated
Thank you in advance.
Congradulations to all those who have received the golden call
so exciting.

Hi,
This is a question for the lucky people that have had there FI. Was there anyone on the FI group that was over 30 years old?
Planning to go to the Leeds open day on 8th Oct but not sure if to go as I am 34 years old and don't want to waste my time and money if I know EK are not recruiting anyone over 34 years or so.
Please help.

Question
For the open day, what type of bag should i use or should i go with two separate bags? One for my documents and one for everything else?
Should I go with a Satchel, Laptop purse bag or a shoulder bag? I've heard that EK does not like when you walk with one big bag and have everything dumped into it which is why i'm asking this question. Don't want to be confused when the day comes.
One bag or two bags? Or one bag and a file with all my papers?
Keep that file in my hand or put it in the bag?
Anybody who got their GC got a photo or anything of the type of hand bag they used? Thanks.

Bag
Hi! I used normal size black bag, had a map with everything in my hands. Just put everything neccesary inside a smaller bag and all the documents in a neat map or if you have a kind of "file bag", where you can put all the documents and something else like lipstick and stuff inside it is also OK, but I didn't have one.
Don't worry too much, it's more important how you act and stuff and if you are good prepared with photos and other documents. Just look nice, everything in order and smile

Just to avoid confusion. The cushions that I was talking about are not for your shoes. They are normally used for shoes but you place them on the "inside" of your stockings. Where they cannot be seen. It was a tip given to the girls in my class at Airline College by our Tutor
So stick them to the soles of your feet than put your stockings on and VWELLA
