Does anyone know when the recruitment staff work? I'm desperately waiting to hear back from BA about my application, but what with it being Xmas I don't know when they will be in. Do you think it would be safe to assume I may not hear anything until Wednesday now?

Also, if the interview days they offer you aren't suitable...can you phone them and ask them if there are any other dates available when you could go to the interview? I already work as cabin crew and so could only really attend on a day off...

Thanks in advance for your help!!

WW 11 month contract pay

Hello,

Can anyone give an insight into how much you can make per month after tax on WW 11 month temp contract?

And do preferential bidding systems apply to WW 11 month temp contract as well?

Thanks

Don't know about take home pay but the only fleets that have bidding systems are LHR EF and LGW.

Spoon82, Happy New year to you too. You better ring for your uniform fitting as soon as possible and book an appointment. They get very busy! And do send for yr medical asap too.
Re references, they won't contact them without your permission. So you will be informed first. I suppose that will happen some time in January.
And re the cd-rom you should get that I think at least 3 weeks before starting but if you have not you need to contact them.
Re the Criminal record I dont know re for someone from abroad. You better check with them. It could be the same procedure as explained in the confirmation email's attachments. I gather you have received that already?

Crew bags

Happy New Year to you all!!
Could someone tell me how many bags LHR EF crew are allowed on board? I gather you cannot check in any luggage in the hold and only on board luggage allowed? If so, I like to know the number and also the size. As there is the xmas sale, I might get them now. Thanks.

Spoon82, as far as I can remember, when I got the phone call and given all info on the phone, I was told that if your references need updating, you have to do that yourself by logging in. Otherwise they will go along with what you provided them with in the first place.
And re medical, there's no appointment to be made. You just need to print off the attachment and fill it in and sign and send it off. I have been told that they will only contact you and/or yr GP if they feel there is a need to do so.
Happy New Year!

Smile LGW

Good morning everyone, happy New Year!
I wonder if someone can enlighten me! Please can someone explain the set-up at Gatwick?
My sister worked for BA in the late 70s and 80s. She worked in what was then called longhaul at LHR and can remember BA starting to operate flights to the Caribbean from LGW, crewed by LHR staff. If I remember correctly, BA had taken over the ailing Dan-Air routes. I presume they took on the Dan-Air staff, and kept to their working conditions, pay, etc., What I don't understand is that why, over the years, BA staff at LGW weren't slowly integrated into the same BA package enjoyed by their fellow workers at LHR. I can understand retaining the status quo at the beginning, but surely over the subsequent years, as crew retire or move on, there wasn't a date when all BA crew there became part of the BA family completely.
Obviously this wouldn't have happened overnight, but like most companies who change their pay structure, there should have been a date sometime down the line when all new entrants commence on the same pay/conditions as their LHR counterparts. From reading these forums, I understand that this is not so.................why???
Why didn't the union, in their negotiations, work for this? I'm not naive to think that this could have happened overnight, but we're talking decades now and something should have been sorted out. I just don't understand why this hasn't been a priority. Or am I missing something? Obviously it would have taken some years for everyone to be on the same package, but eventually, this would have happened.
Sorry if this has been answered before; most grateful for any responses!
Thank you, one and all and a Happy New Year again!

with regards to the differences in pay structure among cabin crew in BA, this is a very articulate subject, not only there are differences between the two main BA bases i.e. LGW and LHR, but also among cabin crew belonging to the same one; but cabin crew in both LHR and LGW are mainline with a BA Plc contract.

When BA bought Dan-Air in 1991 (for £1) Barbara Cassani stressed in no uncertain terms that although rebranded BA (known as European Operations Gatwick - EOG, or EuroGatwick), the short haul operation would remain a subsidiary. If Dan-Air couldn't make money, BA certainly wouldn't, with the higher costs of the mainline terms and conditions.

This was very different to the integration of British Caledonian and British Airtours, whose crew were merged into existing BA crew seniority lists, with terms and conditions honoured.

EuroGatwick has made some headway over the years in becoming more "mainline" if you will. They were merged with BA Cityflyer in 2003(?) to become EuroFleet LGW. In 2006, the existing mainline WW fleet at LGW was disbanded, with most crew being sent to LHR. The long haul routes were then given to EuroFleet LGW to operate and thus became Single Fleet LGW. They have since become part of the NSP which means that there will be a proper system for transfer to other fleets in the coming years.

My belief that this has not happened sooner as that the company has had no legal obligation to integrate what was Dan-Air into mainline. The agreement was ratified in 1991 after the acquisition by the company and the unions. A contract is a contract and pressure from unions can't really change that unless the company agree to it after looking at other considerations, like crew morale. Like I said, this is my belief and I am open to correction on this.

Hey guys! Well done CW84 on your good news!! I, too, had some good news today and have also been offered an interview! I applied on the 22nd December...

However, the dates of the interviews I can't make! I am already cabin crew and working all 3 of those days, how typical! I have booked a slot for 9th Jan and am desperately trying to swap the flight, so will just have to wait and see! I did phone them up though and they said that if I couldn't make the date I booked then it wouldn't be a problem rescheduling it, when they announce new dates for interviews. But they won't be doing that until the current dates are full.

Good luck for your interview!! x
