Temp contract..

CCL1, I first applied for EF LHR permanent back in 2005 and I did not get it and it was not until last April when they started recruited again for permanent EF at LHR. In between that time I could have applied for temp EF or WW at LHR but I was not going to risk leaving my permanent job for a temp job. So I was lucky this second time although it was a long wait and it was made longer after I got the job to wait another 7 months to get a course. But I did not mind waiting as temp is not for me. Some people dont mind taking a gamble and I think its up to you really. In the past LHR WW temps were offered perm LGW as there were vacancies there. I understand it has been made clear that there's no guarantee of a perm post after the WW temp contract. Saying that you never know they might offer you perm EF or LGW but not perm WW as it will be against the unions agreements. To be eligle for perm WW you have to start with perm EF first. And LGW people can tell you more re new agreements coming soon where LGW crew will be eligible to transfer to LHR EF/WW.

can anybody tell me what the BA policy is on jewellery? More specifically rings. Is it just engagement/wedding rings only, or are you allowed a ring on each hand? Just to clarify as its my birthday soon and my grandma wants to buy me a ring. i dont want her to waste her money if i won't be allowed to wear it.

ive heard a little about this 900 hour rule. and im not sure what it means? could anybody give me some information?

In the EU, cabin crew can only operate up to 900 hours within one year. If you start getting close to 900 hours you will be rostered less flying which will damage your earnings. LGW crew are especially vulnerable to this as they have less time off between trips but it does affect LHR crew as well.

There has been speculation that the WW temps will be rostered high hours which will mean they will reach their 900 hours by the end of the 11 months and will not be able to be kept on but I personally don't see how this is possible when you will only actually be flying for 8.5 months (plus 1 months leave and 1.5 months for training adds up to 11 months). I guess it's something to be aware of and will be explained during your training.

Kellymarie - how long was it after you had received your initial e-mail saying that you had been successful that you were offered a place on a training course? My son has just been accepted, and was wondering what was the average wait for a place on a course. I started flying 34 years ago and things were very different in those days!! Thanks, and I really hope you enjoy flying - BA is a great airline.

It really depends on the fleet and the operation. I waited two years for EF and then moved to WW in 8 months. Somes have waited 7/8 months for EF while others have gotten WW (temp) straightaway or within a few weeks. Bottomline, WW temps are probably going to go through the system quicker because their sole purpose is to allow movement of manpower around the fleets.

25 Feb

I noticed on CC.com that the training course starting on the 25th of feb is a mixture of LHR EF and Gatwick crew.

Is it normal for BA to train groups who are at different bases?? I suppose the training is the same for both bases!!

Anyone else on the 25th??

Spoon, there are two groups on 25th of Feb but one from each fleet/base.
The EF will be at LHR and the SF is at Gatwick. They are not never mixed as far as I know.

No, not mixed but courses can run parallel to each other. Cranebank is a big place with many training rooms. Parallel classes can also be run at Hangar 6, too.

landlady, i had my interview on 8th oct and got my sucsessful email 2 days later. i then had my training date just before xmas and i start 10th march. so it did take a long time but its coming so quick now!!

hope he does well!!!

LHRCSA are you saying that you waited 2 years after you accepted the job with BA for a training course for EF? Or you just waited 2 years before you transferred to EF from a different base? And then you just waited 8 months to be transferred to WW from EF? Just trying to get my head round the fact that they interview for jobs for EF and then people have to wait so long for a course! Not sure I would want to accept a job, they contact my present employer for references, I lose my job because of this just to have to wait so long for a course date! Confused! Sorry!

As I understand it, BA do not contact referees until a course date has been offered and accepted. Thankyou for your reply, Kellymarie - if my son enjoys flying as crew as much as I do, then he'll be fine. In my long and varied history with BA I would say to everyone that things change minute by minute, and nothing is set in stone. If you roll with the punches, do your best in the job that you were employed to do, then the world, as they say, is your lobster!!

Moonchild, yes, I applied, was interviewed, accepted and then told that there were no courses and would have to wait. The wait dragged on for two years. I was called out of the blue and offered EF LHR. I then moved to WW LGW in 8 months. I could have gone to WW LHR a couple of years after that but chose not to at that stage.

When I applied, it was not base specific. They were sending people directly in WW LHR, WW LGW and EF LHR. There were some people who were sent to WW LHR and forced onto EF after 6 months, others managed to stay. By the time they got to me, all direct entry to WW LHR had stopped. This was around 1997/8 if I remember correctly.

Moonchild, don't panic!
At the interview, you will be told about what to do if you get offered the post. Basically when you are offered the job, you should not hand in your resignation UNTIL you get a start date which is normally given at least 6 weeks before. Some people get it 2 or even 3 months early. It varies.
And your referees won't be contacted either until after you have been given your start date and you will also be notified prior to that.
As far as the waiting for a course is concerned I think the 2 years wait was an exceptional one. It could be some weeks or months. I waited for 7 months but that does not mean it will be the same this year. I only handed in my resignation two weeks ago and my referees have also just been contacted at the same time.
Is the EF post temp or permanent? Just take one step at a time and everything will be fine but be prepared to wait. Good luck.

Uniform Lhr Store

Hi,

Do you know approximately how much time you have to allocate for the uniform fitting appointment? Do you have to wait long or you are dealt with at your app. time? Will 1 hour be enough?

hi kikko,think we start reporting there in may,read it ages ago in the "cabin crew news"so cant quite remember!until then we continue to report at compass.
