It is indeed the USA and it is West of the Mississippi.

ea200 14th Nov 2021 10:19

Time for a little clue I think. This airfield is the successor to an arguably more well known location which has appeared before on this thread.

Raton municipal /Crews airport?
Found via red belly super decathlon N571SA.

ea200 14th Nov 2021 19:12

Sorry Bear, not many trees around there. That aircraft must wander around a bit. Actually just checked it out, it is not N571SA.

ea200 15th Nov 2021 10:44

Just to help things along. Those are not mountains in the distance. They are closer than they appear and are hills which rise around 350m above airfield level.

ea200 17th Nov 2021 15:12

This is dragging on bit. Bear's approach will work but you have to choose the right aircraft! We are looking West of the Rockies.

I have found only 2 other red bellies:
N393MA
and
N5060J of Brill Aerobatics which leads to

Stead Airport Reno Nevada

Edit: But East of the Rockies

ea200 17th Nov 2021 21:28

Oh no! Global warming has moved the Rockies! ;) Nevada is entirely West of the Rockies, but its not Stead. I'm 99% certain it is neither of those aircraft. The one I think it is was active there very recently and is resident. It can be found, it took me about 15 mins without using any location data other than USA. Good luck.

I think I must have inhaled too much greenhouse gas.
I just zoomed out a bit from Reno and saw a ridge to the West side.
Now i see that there are considerable differences between the Sierra Buttes and the Rockies.

Spend another quarter of an hour to look around Nevada but generally too much trees around.
I leave it to someone else to chew on.

ea200 17th Nov 2021 22:49

It's not in Nevada but it is in an adjoining state.

ea200 18th Nov 2021 19:59

This might narrow it down a bit.

Does this help?

The Super Decathlon was active here yesterday.

sycamore 20th Nov 2021 20:17

Boise,ID.....?

ea200 20th Nov 2021 20:28

Afraid not, but I can see where you are coming from. No military use at this airfield and you are further away than Bear's last guess.

Self loading bear 21st Nov 2021 17:17

That appears to be a not so lucky super decatlon....
Glad It’s tailwheel was repaired in under 2 weeks.

Sycamore, will you finish this off or are you concentrating on the other thread?

chevvron 22nd Nov 2021 02:49

Would it be Aspen by any chance?

ea200 22nd Nov 2021 14:54

Not Aspen, a lot further West.

Livermore Municipal Airport. LVK. KLVK

ea200 22nd Nov 2021 18:18

Indeed it is Livermore Municiple. Very popular with Bay Area aerobatic fraternity. Also home to many light aircraft and business jets. SLB knew where it was having tracked down the Super Decathlon N78GC. Easy to get a new tailwheel in CA Bear.

Over to you TCU.

TCU 23rd Nov 2021 07:29

Thanks ea200. It was those hills that were bugging me until the penny dropped.

Game on:
