Kenya?
Masai Mara I'm guessing.... Kwaheri! |
Jambo BSD!
Not sure I'm going to be able to sneak anything African past you But only half a point as Masai Mara is of course a big area. This place is probably the lowest AMSL of the MM airfields and one of the key first stop airfields out of Wilson. Approach from the South and this well know local river appears just before touch down https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1eeb4e6b51.png |
In that case, I'll try for the full point.
I'll assume the river is the Talek, which makes the strip Olkiombo. Niko sawa bwana? |
My Swahili ends at Jambo
Well done BSD Ol Kiombo airstrip. A key gateway to the Masai Mara and located just North of the hippo filled Talek River https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....5a3c4156b.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....001a66637.jpeg Over to you BSD |
Asante sana Bwana towering Cu, twende na huyu - which should mean thank you, now lets try this.... My smattering of swahili came from growing up around Nairobi.

4 days and no takers. Time for a clue perhaps.
For starters then, same continent as the previous picture....... BSD. |
Never been to Africa, but it looks like somewhere that's had a little bit of money spent on it recently. Rep.of South Africa somewhere?
|
Closing in. Built within the last 5 years. One of the Southern African countries, but not in the RSA.
|
That sunshade on the control tower suggested somewhere equatorial, but the white bakkie definitely places it in the Southern African continent!.
With you noting it not being RSA (where the last big airport cash splash was for the 2010 World Cup), I can't imagine there has been much airport development in Zambia, Zim, Moz or Swazi in last 5 years, so perhaps Namibia or Botswana? |
Kasane, Botswana ?
|
The man from Norfolk has nailed it!
Kasane it is indeed. Lovely new airport, no idea who financed it but an excellent facility. Hardly any traffic though since Covid appeared on the scene and now since Omicron, i guess even less. BSD. |
A quick Google learns that Kasane has been financed by the OPEC Fund
|
Many thanks BSD - yes a very impressive set-up. Certainly it cannot be compared with my challenge which has lain aeronautically dormant for many years.

Not in Norfolk this time?
(by lack of dual carriage road in NW direction) |
Well Bear bloody good orienteering - and you are right, we are certainly not over-endowed in Norfolk with dual carriageways (Thank Goodness) however here is a snap of what was originally called the Norwich Northern Distributor Road which doesn't actually go anywhere but does turn to the north-west at one stage. It rivals Milton Keynes for dangerous round-abouts. It now has some sort of fancy name of which I was unaware when my car blew up on it the other day thus badly delaying the arrival of the excellent RAC rescueman - who soon got me on my way again..........
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....39ac28b16e.jpg This where I broke down. Very good Bacon Butty Van usually parked in cul-de-sac. This is Norwich Airport and not the subject airfield which is not in Norfolk......... |
Didn't there used to be a Walrus being rebuilt there some years ago and a Spit & Hurricane workshop, owned by a deceased property developer, used to buy my tyres from near there as well ?.
|
Hello Zetec which airfield did you have in mind?
|
I think Zetec is referring to Audley End not too far from the M11 but I don’t think that is it.
In The mean time I get recollections of that TV program at night showing a dashcam view of a car driving around the country (I think play speed factor 3 or 4) I keep zooming along Britain’s Motorways. |
I remember going to where Dick Melton used to make/remake Spitfires, and had the Walrus, near Micheldever/Bullington;I`m also sure ,like Zetec ,there was a tyre company nearby,as I think I bought some m/cycle racing Dunlop triangulars at the same time, possibly `85/`86.
However, can`t make G-E match. The Walrus was last see 4-5 yrs ago at the other location... |
