If it's in "Turkey/Lebanon/Syria" the original challenge picture shows no hills, but the second one indicates its hilly close to the airfield
Are we near the coast? |
It is fairly close to the sea. The airfield sits in a flat bottomed valley with hills both sides. Within recorded history the valley was an inlet from the sea. The angle of the picture looks down the valley.

Having scoured the coast of Turkey I think it's Selcuk-Efes, south of Izmir?

Indeed it is. Right next to the Efes (Ephesus) archaelogical site. Where the airfield is was actually a harbour at the time Ephesus was built. Used mostly by visitors to Ephesus but also has an active parachute school and freefall operation.
Over to you A56 |
Tough challenge............ here's one with a watertower as well as trees.............and half a bus as its a public holiday today

Orthodox Easter Monday? or
Labour Monday? for the public holiday. wild stab at St kitts and Nevis? |
In the UK it's the "early May Bank Holiday" - Labour decided years ago to give a May Day Holiday but couldn't face the bad associations with Karl Marx & Friends so it's on the succeeding Monday (normally). Other countries have fabulously named holidays - "St George's Day", "Koningsdag", "Memorial Day", "Tomb Sweeping Day" - we get to throng the streets to celebrate "late August Bank Holiday"............... doesn't have the same ring to it somehow :(
Back on the challenge - Well yes - a wild stab indeed - and a miss by a lot more than a mile.............................. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....a16c37ad6e.jpg |
We’re aircraft nerds not bus nerds. Indonesia?
|
I thought it was a bank holiday in the challenge country.
Yes Kingsday/Koningsdag It just had another ring when his mother was on the throne. Koninginnendag / Queensday. There is still a real Queensday but it is not a bank holiday ( Canal Pride 3 August) |

That of course was coupled with the morris dancers dancing in the town square and bashing each other with 'bladders'. Then in the early '60s Wilson's labour government hi jacked it as a communist/marxist festival. |
