I think you had better open it up to non-geologists, marra! :)

“Geographical rather than political European.”
I have looked at airports near shore in UK, Northern Norway, Russia, and Iceland.
For landscape Iceland was the best fit but I must have missed something?

To me it looks exactly the same.

Another vote for Lydd. Compares with Google Earth.

Hi team. Well done, Siftydog, you have it with Lydd. My next, less geological and more history and nostalgia-related clue, was going to be that this was in the 1950's one of the busiest airports in the UK.

Now a bit of a backwater on the Kent coast, but often the first sight of the UK when descending into London from the continent. And the shingle banks of Dungeness peninsula make for some nice aerial photos!

All yours, Sifty :)

Thanks Jensdad. The area is the UK’s only official desert I believe. It’ll have to be open house until I can rummage through my old slides.

At the top of the photo is an area called St Mary's Bay; I spent a week there at school camp in 1958 can vouch for the 'busiest airport' title; there were Freighters and Superfreighters passing over every 20 min H24.
There were several ALGs on Romney March plus a pre-war airfield at St Mary's Bay which was often used as a div for Lympne.

Lydd. Nice airport to fly to from the Netherlands for some training. I would recommend to skip the restaurant though.

After more than a week of silence I'll post the next one. I expect it will be an easy one.

Don`t think it`s in Holland.....

ea200 9th Nov 2021 13:52

Zell am See I think.

Archer4 10th Nov 2021 13:46

It is indeed Zell am See.

ea200, the next one is yours.

ea200 10th Nov 2021 23:11

Thanks Archer4. I knew I'd seen it somewhere. First guess was Annecy, but when I discounted that, hit it on the second.

Lets try this one.

India Four Two 11th Nov 2021 03:51

Wild guess - Colorado?

ea200 11th Nov 2021 09:17

Good try but not Colorado.

Archer4 11th Nov 2021 10:23

Reminds me of the blue ridge mountains.

ea200 11th Nov 2021 12:43

I can see why you think that, but its not the Blue Ridge mountains.

India Four Two 13th Nov 2021 04:51

Trying to narrow it down. USA? West of the Mississippi?
