I have a feeling that we might be in the Fens?

JENKINS 1st Oct 2019 16:08

I will be tomorrow, but we are not today. Correct island though. No diving there though.

Flap40 1st Oct 2019 16:17

No idea of the name of the airfield but the nearest village is just out of shot bottom right and is called Ivychurch near Lydd.

Edit: I think it is Brenzett ALG.

dook 1st Oct 2019 16:21

Good searching Flap40.

That's its' name, or Brenzett Advanced landing Ground if you wish.

JENKINS 1st Oct 2019 16:25

That's it. Advanced Landing Ground, but given over to V1 defence, 'diver' patrols. Main occupant a Polish Wing. Royal Military Canal nearby, and of course the wild expanses of Romney Marsh with its Rodney, Hythe, and Dymchurch Railway. First came to my attention quite recently, via PPRuNe of course.

Flap40 1st Oct 2019 16:27

Rodney????

JENKINS 1st Oct 2019 16:28

Yes, family argot, and Dymchurch also becomes something else.

Gothenburg?

Flap40 1st Oct 2019 17:17

Rats! You missed the trap. That picture actually appears on a webpage that talks about Linkoping.

All yours.

JENKINS 1st Oct 2019 17:49

Thanks. I sought the routes for Cityhopper, and the particular stretch of taxiways was quite evident. I am on the road all day tomorrow, so cannot play. Off to Norfolk, hope the rain stops.

So, Open House I fear.

I flew out of here in a Pilatus Porter - stunning helicopter-like short-takeoff performance.

Banjul/Yundum?

dook 2nd Oct 2019 08:44

The building on the right looks more Arabic to me.

Asturias56 2nd Oct 2019 09:12

Agreed Dook - I've seen those "street" lights somewhere else - tho I don't think I've ever been I've never been to this place - whereever it

I suspect one of the drossier corners of the Red Sea/ Arabian Peninsula...................................

dook 2nd Oct 2019 09:35

I'm laboriously going around GE.

It's not Saudi though - I flew there for five years.

edit: might be a new airport though.

No. There has been for some time a light or miniature railway in the vicinity.

The RH & DR narrow guage railway is several miles away running just inland from the coast and the standard gauge railway which stops just short of Dungeness is to the west, just west of Brenzett village.

Asturias56 2nd Oct 2019 12:56

I don't think this is the old RAF base at Riyan which is closer to the town - apparently it s the site a of a "Secret prison" - if that doesn't make your blood freeze nothing will....................
