Can't resist this......Cruyff.

Both wrong. Good weekend for Dutch teams from the sport this weekend in different countries. This airfield seems to be the international airport for a country not its own, and lies in a region keen to cut ties to the country which is its own.
So, something of a lottery perhaps, that might help as a banker. |
Bedtime, 'till tomorrow. Lots of ironing, so will be close to machine.
|
The hint that the airport serves 'a country that is not its own' and its location in a country that some in the region want to break away from, would seem to point to an airfield in Catalonia that serves as the airport for Andorra? Haven't a clue which one though. Lleida is in flat(ish) country and the pic looks a bit hilly...
|
The clues seem to fit cycling (terrain, La Vuelta, Tour of Britain) possibly Tour de France? Then airfield in Catalonia serving Andorra. That's as far as I get because I cannot think of an airport that fits the bill and I cannot see one on GE either.
|
We crossed there Jensdad. I looked at Lleida but it's not that. Off to bed!
|
The responses to the clues are correct, keep looking.
|
A google search of 'airport for andorra' brought up the wikipedia page for La Seu d'Urgell airport, which includes a nice overhead view of an airfield that looks suspiciously like the one in your picture :)
|
I think it's La Seu d'Urgell in Andorra.
sod it - too late. |
Jensdad has it. My attention taken by it when looking at aircraft involved in TV presentation of La Vuelta. Field opened in 1980's, Common Market subsidy perhaps, but closed soon after. I imagine the pull of Andorran money ensured the re-opening.
To you. |

To you. Tour of Britain was good too; when they said one stage was in 'Pershore' my hopes were quickly dashed when it turned out to be the town, not the airfield.. |
Thank you JENKs. Must admit I'd seen the town on maps before but didn't realise there was an airport there!
Here's the airfield I posted a week or so ago but had to withdraw as someone beat me to the open house... For the moment I'll just answer yes or no to an airfield name as I'm pretty sure one of you knowledgeable and richly experienced people will have been here. If it doesn't go by tonight I'll start dishing out the clues... https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....166c04d7a6.jpg |
If you're only going to answer yes or no to an airfield name, then how about geography.
Europe ? |
In the unlikely event that this is still active, I'll start dishing out clues at 7pm UK time :) Someone on here will have been to this place, I'm sure.
|
OK then.
I'll check out. |
Llanbedr??
|
No to Llanbedr :)
|
I've just realised, the fact that I've said that someone on here will have been is kind-of a clue that it isn't in the border regions of Mongolia and Siberia for instance. Back in an hour or so...
|
In UK ,plus all Ireland
|
I'll have a stab at Colonsay.
