sycamore 16th Sep 2019 19:46

Apologies senor...

dook 16th Sep 2019 19:46

Eessa OK now

dook 16th Sep 2019 20:09

Isla Grande Airport, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I think the interloper might be a JP.

Pedant Mode!
To be accurate it's the 'new' Tingwall airport which replaced the old grass strip in, I think, the '80s.
I flew into the old strip in Sep 1972 courtesy of Loganair; a patch of stinging nettles marked the northern end of the strip and there was a substantial stone barn just off centreline at the southern end but I don't know exactly where it was! There was a dry stone wall next to the barn which extended across the centreline; a visiting Aztec tried to demolish this while landing during my 'tour of duty' at Sumburgh.

dook, you have been to `Specsavers`....correct on both counts.... pins out, canopy closed ,....off you go
It is Mk4 XP547...

dook 16th Sep 2019 20:43

Not Specsavers - ASDA opticians - much cheaper. Oh, and I have over 2000 hours on JPs.

Dice roll again, but not too difficult.

JENKINS 16th Sep 2019 20:58

XP547, 27 July 1981, Lossie - Leuchars - Finningley - Brawdy. My last Mark 4 trip. Another marvellous 'jolly.'

sycamore 16th Sep 2019 21:36

J,could have done that in one...burning at lo-level...?

Didn't know that this place was a replacement for a previous strip. Thanks for your recollections and the info. I paid a quick visit while driving around Mainland earlier this year; I visited on a Saturday so no activity unfortunately!

This is probably either HR-TNL of TAN carga or HR-SHN of Sahsa. Lots of pictures on the net. Most from Miami International.

JP4 still in use at Shawbury when I did my PAR course in 1984, but I didn't manage to get a 'jolly' like some others did when doing the course.:{

dook 17th Sep 2019 08:22

Bear,

It is indeed a TAN aeroplane but it's not Miami.

JENKINS 17th Sep 2019 09:05

For Sycamore, Lossie - Brawdy at high level tight and unlikely, not much Rebecca Eureka coverage left in 1981. Low level much more fun. Distant memory of Rebecca Eureka at Twenthe earlier that year on another jolly, but not convinced. On one trip I went Leuchars - Coningsby, doing a favour for the future Scottish Air Marshal.

XP 547, first trip Ex 121, dual GH at Cranwell, 6 landings, 25 Nov 1966

Let’s not go for the most obvious:
Belize City Philip S.W Goldson International airport

Belize it is Bear. Taken by an RAF controller.
