Very good, yes, and lots of guano there I believe. However, not Australia, though several of my colleagues back then in 1975 were Australian, dare I say mercenaries, although 'contract' is more respectable.

India Four Two 12th Apr 2019 18:47

Australian 'contract' pilots. How about PNG?

JENKINS 12th Apr 2019 19:31

Not PNG, though doubtless some of my chums will have spent Caribou time there. This island a bit smaller.

India Four Two 12th Apr 2019 20:52

How about moving southeast? The Solomon Islands?

JENKINS 12th Apr 2019 21:01

I have flown in that area, but my island a very long way West of The Solomons.

JENKINS 12th Apr 2019 21:23

And in a different hemisphere, where it is bed-time.

lauriebe 13th Apr 2019 02:34

Looked Middle Eastern to me so started around that area.

Difficult to find as there was no marker indicating an airfield/airstrip at that location.

Could not find a name as you mention but think this is the small strip at the extreme western end of Al Hallaniyah Island off the Dhofar coast of southern Oman.

OH if correct.

The Americas? North or South?

JENKINS 13th Apr 2019 07:41

Good morning, and it is indeed that settlement in Oman, it being the largest inhabited settlement, apparently, on the Kuria Muria Islands. Failed telegraph station in Victorian times when a better line was established close to Khasab at the very North of Oman.

OH called.

This pic probably dates from the 1920s:

I'll start then.

Almost nothing to go on, but I'm looking at the hangars and what might be the fin of a Spad.

Are we in France ?

Discorde 13th Apr 2019 12:33

Other side of the pond. Photo date 1925. The caption includes "National Guard hangars in foreground; air race hangars in distance". Today it's a 4-runway airport.

dook 13th Apr 2019 12:41

Maybe Lambert Field, St Louis.

Discorde 13th Apr 2019 13:13

Yessir! Photo taken from the book "Spirit of St Louis", Lindbergh's account of his famous 1927 flight.

Thank you Discorde.

We haven't had a water job for a while.

Over-informed guesswork leads me to Matilda Bay, WA

dook 13th Apr 2019 16:00

Unfortunately not Washington.

JENKINS 13th Apr 2019 16:14

Delightful spot close to Darwin, Doctor's Gully?

Who said Washington? I used WA as the abbreviation for Western Australia (as one does), so perhaps I've confused you.

dook 13th Apr 2019 16:25

I now understand AG.

And to both of you - we're not in Australia.
