Charles Prince Airport Harare?

nvubu 15th Feb 2019 13:13

It isn't in a capital.
Opened 1950
Same layout today as in the first image

Lusaka is around 100 miles closer than Harare.

chevvron 15th Feb 2019 13:23

I was gonna say 'Could that be the Belgian King? (Baudoin?)' but then I noticed the Union Jacks!.

broadreach 15th Feb 2019 13:30

Asturias56 15th Feb 2019 13:38

nvubu 15th Feb 2019 13:56

Not a royal, and not Blantyre - which is even further way than Harare.

Asturias56 15th Feb 2019 13:58

Kariba then - but it doesn't look right.....................

nvubu 15th Feb 2019 14:08

Nope, not Kariba. But it does have a "link" to that location.

Asturias56 15th Feb 2019 14:14

Livingstone Victoria Falls connected by a power line............ now Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport

nvubu 15th Feb 2019 14:31

You've got it - Livingstone Airport, Northern Rhodesia - sorry for not telling you when you were in the correct country, but there aren't a huge number of airports in the region so it would have been too easy.

I was thinking more of the River Zambezi being the connection - especially as the Kariba Dam hadn't been built in 1950 :)

The chap opening the airport was Lord Pakenham, Minister of Civil Aviation - Flight Global archive

Asturias56 has control

Asturias56 15th Feb 2019 16:22

Countryside looks not unlike the Spanish Costas, but not sure about the elevated approach lights & the high ground inland would have been closer?

Asturias56 15th Feb 2019 18:19

Not the Spanish COstas

off out until 23:00 UK

Yes - people should wait for the answer to be confirmed.
