RCAF Scoudouc

I agree with Albatross and Hippo. Re the picture of RCAF Scoudouc, and assuming they're all Lancasters, there must be upward of a hundred on the field. I was convinced Evansb had got it with Greenwood. BTW Scoudouc is more like 46 10 N and 64 35 W.

Here's a Lancaster and Tiger Force website I've just found, in case you experts haven't been there already. The narrative suggests the Scoudouc picture is a stood-down, post-war gathering of the enormous Canadian commitment, before they were flown to Alberta to dry out.

Sorry guys, still haven't got anything for the mo, so OPEN HOUSE again.

nvubu 29th Jan 2012 16:52

LFH - thanks for that link - very interesting.

I see you may have discovered a lead for some of my future offerings :ok:

Duckbutt 30th Jan 2012 14:12

Duckbutt 30th Jan 2012 14:37

Not Belfast, Chevvron

Duckbutt 30th Jan 2012 14:51

Nor Dundee.

Duckbutt 30th Jan 2012 15:02

Sorry, not Bremerhaven.

LFT 30th Jan 2012 19:39

How about Finkenwerder?

olympus 30th Jan 2012 21:37

Are we looking for a seaplane base?

Gordy 30th Jan 2012 21:54

Felixstowe....?

OH if correct.

Duckbutt 30th Jan 2012 22:26

Correct Gordy, the former RNAS Felixstowe.

Tejgaon airport, Dhaka.

I was originally going to ask if it was in English speaking Africa or Asia.

Is that a farm or a school between the terminals and the runway? What is that orangy stuff at the northern end? I've just found it at the southern end as well? Loads of fruit trees.... weird.

I have just found I can't connect to my server for uploading pictures, so it'll have to be Open House - if correct of course :)

descol 31st Jan 2012 20:02

correct nvubu
Tejgaon was Bangladesh's only international airport prior to the opening of Shahjalal in 1981 when it became a military base. It was used by the British in WW2 for operating warplanes to Burma
OH as you say

Re: Felixstowe

Gutted... Having sailed and motored past there many times, I knew there was something familiar but couldn't put my finger on it! Happy, happy, days.

Now, off to the yachting and boating world forums to start a new thread called 'which marina' - or better yet - 'which aerodrome'!

nvubu 1st Feb 2012 17:48

I've had to switch all my images over to photobucket as my .co.uk host went down yesterday and was requesting a username and password to access the images - so apologies if anyone experienced that popup :uhoh: - it won't happen again. Strange though, that the .com site was still up and running.

Anyway, as no-one has used the Open House, I wonder what you will make of this aerodrome.

http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...PRuNe/013A.jpg

I am fairly sure that that is a hanger in "kit" form, and when this photo was taken this aerodrome had seen few, if any, aeroplanes.

nvubu 2nd Feb 2012 17:13

Time for a couple of clues:

The photo is from 1922.

A number of years later the aerodrome was assigned the number 1473.

And it doesn't exist today

sabredog 2nd Feb 2012 18:07

KAPINGAMARANGI Airfield ?

nvubu 2nd Feb 2012 18:13

Sorry, it isn't KAPINGAMARANGI and it isn't in Micronesia.
