No, none of those. Will add a clue tomorrow if still going.

Coltishall? I know there used to be an RAF SAR station there.
|
Not Colt - but, yes, there was an SAR flt there at one time

Final punt of the day: Just along the road at Marham?
|
RAF Boulmer.
Open House if correct |
How about Leconfield?
|
RAF Valley. OH if correct.
|
Still none of the above.
https://www.pprune.org/members/66630...ddemoaug63.jpg Same airfield, same day, this time showing both the then-resident types. |
I don’t have much idea, but is it Cranwell ?
|
RAF Acklington?
|
RAF Finningley?
OH if correct. |
Bingo! RAF Acklington, taken in August 1963. Home of 6FTS and a flight of 228 Sqn - which the following year was renumbered as 202 Sqn.
The airfield closed in the late 60s, much of the site was the mined opencast for coal, and the old technical site is now the location of two prisons. How things change. WIDN62 has control. |
Woohoo!
Just off to work - I will post a challenge this evening if that is acceptable - otherwise OH. |

Pearls Airport in Grenada, during the US invasion?
|
Just realised that might be an RAF Herc on the background, and if so the photo was obv not taken during the US invasion. Still reckon it might be Pearls though.
|
Not Grenada!

Was I in the right neck of the woods?
|
Ascension?
|
Whew, I was just about to post that the picture ruled out Northern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere, with the vegetation and terrain pointing straight at SE Asia.
Edit: just noticed that most of SE Asia’s in the Northern Hemisphere. I do apologise and promise to do better etc. |
