You have mate, the Fokker S.II The S.II was designed by Reinhold Platz as the second Fokker primary trainer, but unlike the earlier S.I monoplane the S.II was an unequal-span single-bay biplane with a fixed cross-axle landing gear. It had side-by-side seating for an instructor and pupil and was originally powered by a 82 kW (110 hp) Thulin rotary engine. The engine was later replaced with a Le Rhone-Oberursel engine. The aircraft was ordered by the LVA (Dutch Army Aviation) who purchased 15. One aircraft was modified to use a Curtiss OX-5 engine to elicit a response from the United States Army Air Service but they were not interested and the aircraft was returned to standard configuration. You got it mate It is indeed the Curtiss twin engine P-40C :D Twin P-40 : Probably the most unusual variant, it was a P-40C outfitted in 1942 with a pair of 1,300 hp (969 kW) Packard V-1650-1 Merlin engines mounted atop the wings, over the main landing gear. One pulled from ex-service condemned units and modified into a twin mock-up for preliminary evaluation, [41-13456] |

Interesting this one!! Been busy today, so not too much time to look, but had a quick look in Aerofiles on the grounds that it's a trainer with no luck! The tail, particularly the one-piece elevator has a distinctly Arado look about it, as does the hint of an inverted gull-wing, the Ar.80 is close and a V3 was fitted with two open cockpits and was involved in testing flaps, but I can't see any mention of it being fitted with what appears to be a seven-cylinder radial. In need of a clue I think :O |

Early start arrived and feeling refreshed enough for a quick look before I have to go! Good old Fright archive :D seems it's the Caproni Sauro-1 aka Caproni Tricap fitted | aeroplane works | caproni aeroplane | 1933 | 0376 | Flight Archive FA used to be my first port of call for a broader search, but I had to abandon it when I changed my browser to Chrome as a bug prevented it from displaying search results, but I just tried it again and the bug has been fixed ,yipee!! Good Challenge mate! Nothing much on the English Wiki and it's NOT listed there on the "Inverted Gull-Wing list, but it's on the Italian version with some pictures :ugh: I thought that Graeme might have pounced while I slept as it's sure o be in one of his many books and he's pretty sharp on the Italians! |
