Well, I dare say it's fast for an aircraft of this vintage which doesn't even have a DI... Agreed, it's probably aerobatic max +6g by the look of it, max perhaps 2525 rpm, which sticks in my mind but from engines which wouldn't fit the bill...
Reference the idea that it might be a crop-sprayer, the black handle on the left with the leather gaiter looks incongruous, and possibly a retrofit. Anyhow, at least the rotation has stopped... Will C2J ease us out of the dive? |
Instead of a Funk, I'm thinking it could be a Timm N2T-1 Naval basic trainer, hence the robust nature of the cockpit. Still guessing though..

Post WWII. Involvement of two major airframers. Think racing.

Hi C2j
Just going to take a pot-shot at this, it sorta fits the clues, but not great! The Rollason Beta of 1967 ?? Collaboration between British Aircraft Corporation (but ony trainees) and Rollason Aircraft and Engines (hardley be described as major players). Described as a Racer, placarded speed match OK and it was stressed to +6/-3G, it did have a stick and looks like a 'chute pan type seat. I found a photo of the cockpit, it doesn't fit great, but is is the prototype and they stated there would be changes in the following A/C, so who knows!! So assuming I'm wrong, does your cockpit come from your side of the "pond" and is it before or after my shot? |
Not the Rollason Beta.
Some shapes give rise to comparison with an iconic airplane. C2j |
This is quite a challenge my friend. I'll guess the original Long Midget Mustang ?
|
Well...not the ORIGINAL Long/Schwietzer Midget Mustang, but it IS a Midget Mustang built in 1962. Recently hideously adorned in a pseudo "Cripes a' Mighty" paint scheme to give the museum a "WWII airplane". Ouch!

Thanks C2j. Too bad Mr. Long perished in 1950. Here is the next challenge:

Curtiss Helldiver ?
|
Sorry, not from Curtiss.
|
Clue: Only two were built.
|
Brewster XA-32 ?
OH if correct... |
sycamore is correct.:ok: The dismal XA-32 from the equally dismal Brewster Aircraft Company.
As he said OPEN HOUSE |
|
Junkers JU-290?
C2j |
Mate I don't know how much different the cockpit layout is between the civil Ju-90 and the military Ju-290, so control is yours. :ok: It's the Ju-90.
|
Er...Uhhh...well, I'm caught flat footed! I threw out a wild guess just to stimulate thinking and I got it (nearly) right. Not prepared with a challenge so Open House. :O
