Well done Jarvis :ok: I was convinced that with the 'block' format of housing and the abundance of Douglas aircraft that this would have been South America.

MancRed 20th Jul 2007 09:13

A quick one....

Tiger_mate's challenge

Judging by the size of the fields around the airfield I would say this airfield is in the UK?
Mel

jindabyne 20th Jul 2007 12:43

Samlesbury?

Tiger_mate 20th Jul 2007 19:50

Apologies for not confirming sooner, I have had a nightnmare day negotiating the motorway system or should that be 'canal' system of north west england.

I digress; Salmesbury it is > Jindabyne has control :D

If it had not been sorted by now, I was going to say:

This airfield is well familiar with being a testing location, and if you are vigilant, you can see ATC. 3 clues there!

I'm intrigued by the aircraft (looks like a 737) which has just sone a STOL takeoff from the taxiway in the centre of the pic, and the other one lining up behind it to repeat the same feat...

TM

Please take over - am off PC for next 24 hrs - will rejoin later

seacue 20th Jul 2007 21:05

Perhaps an easy one:

21:27 Edited to "open up" the picture a bit.
22:30 Edited to make it VERY simple.

An optical illusion. The aircraft are Air Cadet Vigilant motor gliders, and the runway in use was the one running top to bottom. For camera spotters, it was taken with a Nikon D200 armed with a 18-200 zoom VR lens, taken from a helicopter cruising for the Warrington corridor at 2000`agl, the distance is a few miles!

For our worldwide guests, this airfield is part of British Aerospace and is where many Lightning and Canberra flights occured. I do not think that BAe use it regulary nowadays, but as can be seen, it is far from dead. It is situated approx 30nm east of the main BAe military airfield at Warton.

PaperTiger 20th Jul 2007 21:17

Boston. (like it says on the fold, lower right :O )

I got it before I noticed that. No, really :E

seacue 20th Jul 2007 21:22

I didn't see that "Boston". I wonder why it is there.

This field is hundreds and hundreds of miles west of Boston.

Sky Harbour Phoenix perhaps?

seacue 20th Jul 2007 22:52

No, Mel, not Phoenix, though I expected to see that guessed.
