Khormaska (Sp?) or Gan

MReyn24050 16th Jul 2007 21:17

I consider Tiger_mate was correct in his first choice RAF Khormaksar Aden about 1963. Hunters of No 8 Squadron RAF

jindabyne 16th Jul 2007 21:38

TM
Spot on. Taken over Khormaksar in 1965 from a Hunter FR10 of No1417 Flt; Hunters of 8 & 43 Sqns on the pan, with Dakotas of Aden Airways top-ish right. On the bottom right-ish are the Hunter Strike Wing buildings: 8 Sqn is the lower, HQ in the middle, and 43 (spit)at the top.

Tiger_mate 16th Jul 2007 21:46

Could be a Shackleton MR3 at the far side of dispersal.

Open to the floor for the next one, as I have already done one.

Blackbushe would be the natural choice, but I will opt for Northolt

PS

Welcome back

King Pong challenge

I like Tiger_mate thought it might be Blackbushe but I will go for Hurn.

Tiger_mate 16th Jul 2007 23:15

I now think that it is Luton. The Pembroke was made there and it had similar hangars.

ICT_SLB 17th Jul 2007 03:47

I agree with with Mel - it's Hurn. The BAC 1-11 Avionics Test group (aka the "Fighting Ninth") were housed in a line of WWII huts closest to the runway but just west of the Flight Shed. Outside one was a large concrete drain pipe still with the notice "International Departures" painted in lime green & white. IIRC when they cleaned out one of the old BAC storage huts at Hurn Bridge they found the original Departure Lounge furniture & fittings which now grace the Airport Club.

King Pong 17th Jul 2007 06:43

Luton

Maybe I should have included this photo to convince Tiger Mate that that the photos where taken at Hurn
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/6...image19wo4.jpg
But he is right the photos including the 1-11 are of Luton.

Tiger_mate 17th Jul 2007 07:00

Excellent photographs, of good quality too for their age. As before ladies and gents, open house, if you have one ready please publish..

Tiger Mate:

The aircraft at the back of the ramp on the Khormaksar photograph is not a Shackleton but most likely an Ace Freighters L749 Connie.

seacue 17th Jul 2007 12:59

Yessir SpeechlessTwo, you have it in one.

The floor is now yours.

Edited to add that the Plymouth Roborough photo was taken in very early 1930s.

I've wasted a LONG time searching for a match. Looks like:

Major city, lots of gates.
South-central USA because of color of earth around road construction in background and scruffy burn-out grass by taxiways.

But still no match.

forget 17th Jul 2007 14:28

Try Brazilia.

MReyn24050 17th Jul 2007 15:02

Mel's Challenge

seacue
Right Country - USA , and South of 35 parallel.
forget
But no where nears as South as Brazilia.

seacue 17th Jul 2007 15:25

Mel, You jest, I think I've looked at all the US airports south of 35N on Google and it doesn't look like any of them. I can't believe it is DFW long ago - or is it?
Not LAX, LGB, LAS, PHX, ABQ, DFW?, DAL, SAT, AUS, MSY, ATL, JAX, TPA, MIA, FLL, SAV, MCO, SDF, ...

Hey, Maybe it's Memphis long ago (1960s?) after all. AirNav says MEM is at
35-02-32.7000N / 089-58-36.0000W
So just above 35N.
