The mounted Cavalry is a clue though
Possibly India or Pakistan, but since I now know that the PAF operated Freighters, I'll guess Pakistan - Lahore?

sabredog 6th Dec 2007 09:02

Kano Airport.

sidtheesexist 6th Dec 2007 10:00

Iddris, Khartoum...............

India Four Two 6th Dec 2007 10:33

I think Sabredog has got it. The question I have now, is what is a camouflaged Bristol Freighter doing in Kano?

PaperTiger 6th Dec 2007 16:36

Paper Tiger,
While the Europeans are in their beds, is that Chehalis (KCLS)? Have a lot of friends in the Pacific NW - comes from working at the Lazy B for five years - hope they & you are keeping "feet dry".
Yes it's KCLS, looks like they just managed to get everything out of harm's way. Still not good hereabouts, all main N-S roads impassable, 7 dead, damage in the $billions :(

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

KeMac 6th Dec 2007 17:27

Sabredog has it - Kano. I thought it would have lasted longer. I don't know what the Bristol Freighter is doing there. The photo belonged to my dad who worked there. The date on the photograph is 4th May 1957 so I don't know what the event was. The mounted Cavalry on crowd control belong to the Emir of Kano.
Over to you Sabredog.

sabredog 6th Dec 2007 17:49

Thank you.
Open House, gentlemen.

Looks like India from the building and the fire truck...

...Hyderabad VOHY?

sabredog 7th Dec 2007 08:20

Computer Jockey.
India, yes. Hyderabad (VOHY) ,No.
Top marks for spotting the clues.
Sabredog

India, yes. Hyderabad (VOHY) ,No.
Admittedly Hyderabad was a shot in the dark. On closer examination it looks like an Indian provincial airport.

Pune?

sabredog 7th Dec 2007 11:04

Sorry, C.J, not Puna ( Poona)

sabredog 7th Dec 2007 11:08

Apologies C.J. for the typo. Not Pune

Mr_Grubby 7th Dec 2007 11:57

Is that the Taj Mahal in the background ?

Grubby.

sabredog 7th Dec 2007 12:17

Sorry Clint, it is not the Taj in the background,so it is not Agra. Well spotted though.

om15 7th Dec 2007 13:00

Baroda? i don't remember the vegetation, but this could be after the rains.
Best regards,
om15

sabredog 7th Dec 2007 14:07

Not Baroda, the Sanskari Nagari, OM15.
This airfield was operational during the days of the Raj and remained so after Independence. Now relegated to light aircraft and helicopter movements. Was once operated under a British name.

G-ARZG 7th Dec 2007 15:56

Delhi-Safdarjung?

sabredog 7th Dec 2007 16:06

Spot on, G-ZG.
Well done, and you have control

computer jockey 8th Dec 2007 03:18

Well done ZG. That was a good challenge.

This must be the most enjoyable thread on the net!
