Very long shot. Wrong side of the Atlantic.

seacue 3rd Oct 2007 20:39

It has been more than 24 hours and only one guess. Too hard I fear.
Here is a similar view in the daytime. The elevator/lift towers are at the right edge of the photo.

I think it's Reagan National, Washington (DCA).

seacue 4th Oct 2007 00:13

Right GCC, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport new terminal. Even though the first challenge in this thread was also KDCA, I thought the new terminal was essentially a different test.

GCC, you have control.

BAMRA wake up 4th Oct 2007 19:02

Another quickie before GCC posts!

OK, try this:

BAMRA wake up 4th Oct 2007 19:47

Well done TM, knew I should have edited out the golf ball!

BEagle's pic - looks as if there's a Roman road across that airfield?

Tiger_mate 4th Oct 2007 21:52

Beagles is almost certainly a Coastal Command airfield, but I am not sure which one. The 'line' could have been a railway, but to the best of my recollection, the only such UK base like this was Ballykelly, which whilst a Coastal Command airfield also, this is not Ballykelly. It could however be another of the Northern Ireland airfields.

An interesting one Llanbedr?

BEagle 4th Oct 2007 22:05

Ignore the 'Roman Road' - it's a damaged print, sorry.

Neither Coastal nor in Nor'n Ir'n.

BAMRA wake up 5th Oct 2007 07:40

BEagle's pic:

No Roman road, hmm... there was I thinking WW2 Lincolnshire.

Going on the tree shadows it's probably 'North up' orientated, possibly a railway in a cutting across the top left. Google earthed over Lincs but nothing similar.

However, guessing: Binbrook?

621andy 5th Oct 2007 08:07

Topcliffe?

BEagle 5th Oct 2007 08:29

Neither Binbrook nor Topcliffe.

Although a type of aircraft once based at Binbrook was also operated from here......

621andy 5th Oct 2007 08:32

Could also be Pershore?

Tiger_mate 5th Oct 2007 08:55

RAF Middleton St. George

BEagle 5th Oct 2007 09:43

Neither P'shaw nor Middleton St George.......................

621andy 5th Oct 2007 10:28

Coningsby?

Woodhall Spa looks like it might fit...

BEagle 5th Oct 2007 10:41

Neither Coningsby nor Woodhall Spa......

621andy 5th Oct 2007 10:44

Bassingbourn?

Fly380 5th Oct 2007 10:47

Leconfield?

BEagle 5th Oct 2007 11:04

Neither Bassingbourn nor Leconfield...

nacluv 5th Oct 2007 12:21

Church Broughton?

621andy 5th Oct 2007 12:43

Should've got this one MUCH earlier! Westonzoyland -my part of the wurrrld.
99% certain anyway;)

BEagle 5th Oct 2007 14:12

ee'm be roight! Weston Zoyland 'tis indeed!

Canberras were once operated here - in support of Operation Grapple (UK H-bomb tests). And, of course, Canberras were at Binbrook for many years!

You have control.

If someone else has got a pic, feel free, otherwise I've got a couple more...

BAMRA wake up 5th Oct 2007 18:11

Ok Andy, this might be considered rather obscure, obtained this from a friend in the north. I'll remove if it's just too parochial.

Just to make things a little easier/fairer:
View is looking west towards the Atlantic.
It's had scheduled services for 40 years, wasn't a military 'drome.
It's not Islay, or indeed anywhere in the west of Scotland.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...28approach.jpg

621andy 5th Oct 2007 18:39

No more obscure than some we've had on here! No idea where it is though...time for research...:8

Stretchwell 5th Oct 2007 18:41

Is it Islay?

621andy 5th Oct 2007 18:59

I'd guess at Yorkshire somewhere. ex military I'd say...

BAMRA wake up 5th Oct 2007 19:46

Not Islay, not Yorks. I've added some info to the photo post. I'd guess there's probably a few pprooners who earned their wings flying into here before moving on to greater things.

Tiger_mate 5th Oct 2007 20:01

West coast of Eire?

BAMRA wake up 5th Oct 2007 20:08

It's Scotland, it's an island, the North Sea is behind the aircaft. Couple more islands on the western horizon with airstrips a mile apart. (Tiger mate heads out to the car for the road atlas!).

621andy 5th Oct 2007 20:17

Caenarfon(sp?) or, just had a brainwave- Lundy?

Tiger_mate 5th Oct 2007 20:24

(Tiger mate heads out to the car for the road atlas!).
I have a quater mil and half mil aviation maps on my PC!!

Kirkwall / Orkney

621andy 5th Oct 2007 20:42

Lerwick, Shetland?

BAMRA wake up 5th Oct 2007 20:53

None of the above! Not in Shetland, not in mainland Scotland.
It's CAA Licenced, owned and run by a local authority, not BAA.

Tiger mate is 'warming'

621andy 5th Oct 2007 20:59

Papa westray, Orkney. Home of the shortest scheduled flights.
