Warnemünde?
Not Warnemünde, warmtoast, but you are getting "warm" in a geographical sense, and by that I don't mean a ridiculous 1400 miles or so !
Not Warnemünde, warmtoast, but you are getting "warm" in a geographical sense, and by that I don't mean a ridiculous 1400 miles or so ! A circle drawn 1400 miles from Rostock runs through Southern Spain so is your non-clue I don't mean a ridiculous 1400 miles or so ! Otherwise how about Wismar in Germany? |
Warmtoast, apologies if I did not make myself clear, you are on the right track in Germany, so please disregard the 1400 mile radius jibe. It refers to a recent post. The town/city adjacent to this airfield featured in the Thirty Years War, and the airfield also has a tenuous link to Yuri Gagarin!
Northern Germany, tenuous link to Gagarin? Peenemunde??
Sabredog
The town/city adjacent to this airfield featured in the Thirty Years War, and the airfield also has a tenuous link to Yuri Gagarin! So sticking my head above the parapet once again I suggest Johannisthal. |
Warmer still,Twochai. A good line of thought, but not Peenemunde.
Sorry,Warmtoast, not Germany's first airfield,Johannisthal.
Neubrandenburg ? Although I don't know the airfield's connection to Yuri Gagarin.
Correct, evansb. The photograph is of Trollenhagen as a Luftwaffe base, which later became Neubrandenburg-Trollenhagen.
As a DDR airfield it was the base for JG2 (Jagdfliegergeschwader 2 "Juri Gagarin"). Neubradenburg was recaptured from the Swedes by the Imperial Catholic League forces in 1631, although I do not believe Trollenhagen airfield played any part in this victory! Many thanks for the excellent replies. |
Thanks sabredog. That was an enjoyable challenge. Here is the next aerodrome:

First clue: The airport is not in North America.

You got it in one - I knew it was too easy! Your date is slightly out; I took the photo in late 1958 as I flew in from Gan. Your turn. |
Warmtoast will pm you later.
Here is another easy one http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/wunper/WTFsz.jpg |
Raf Wildenrath?
Not Wildenrath
Is it a NATO base?
Very much so
Ramp 'G' at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta ? Photo taken during Exercise 'Maple Flag'.
Evansb Correct it is 419 squadron Moose Meadows at CYOD (for the full cigar it was Maple Flag XXI June '88)
You have control! W |
Looks like NAS Kodiak, with PBY-5A's and Chance Vought OS2U Kingfishers, probably of VS70??
While a Kingfisher may be a water bird, and visible somewhere in the picture, I know that the planes sharing the ramp with the two PBY's are Ducks! :hmm:
C2j |
Sorry it is not NAS Kodiak. The Ducks do look cold, don't they?
Are the Ducks from 10th Air Rescue Group?
If so, I'll have a stab at Cordova. |
NAS Sitka, AK
NAS Adak??
Sorry gents. It is not Sitka, Cordova nor Adak. That leaves little else doesn't it?
Dutch Harbour?
sabredog is correct:ok: Dutch Harbour, Alaska was the site of a battle between Japanese and American forces during WW.II. You have control.
Thank you. Open House.
Excuse another pigboat, but it really was the best of the boats.
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk89/twochai/JJG.jpg |
Catalina??
Yup, otherwise designated as the PBY-5A, but known to all and sundry as the 'Pigboat' - with good and sufficient reason, I can confirm.
The question on this forum is: "Which Airport"? |
