larssnowpharter 18th Mar 2008 12:34

Correst!

Aplogies to all; I was getting a server busy message and did not see Mr D's challenge.

twochai 18th Mar 2008 21:14

OK, I'll start it with a very wild guess: South Caicos?

Duckbutt 18th Mar 2008 23:21

Not South Caicos.

When that photo was taken (getting on for 40 years ago) there were only about 60 flights pa. I think its fair to say the field is somewhat more busy these days! As can be imagined the facilities are a bit less primitive as well.

Flap40 19th Mar 2008 00:26

Narssuaq in Greenland?

I can't decide if the "white stuff" on the ground is salt/sand or snow. Also, are those all clouds or is there a ruddy great hill in the distance?

sidtheesexist 19th Mar 2008 00:28

I'm going for sand and a tropical climate.........Diego Garcia?

Duckbutt 19th Mar 2008 07:57

Sid has it, Diego Garcia. Tower around 1971 before the airfield was redeveloped by the Americans.

With you Sid.

sidtheesexist 19th Mar 2008 12:40

Thanks Duckbutt - the floor is open ladies and gents.

sabredog 19th Mar 2008 12:52

Thank you, Sid.
To save time, it is in the far east.
Hope the link works.

I will take a shot in the dark and say Pyongyang Sunan Airport.

sabredog 19th Mar 2008 17:11

Sorry, not Pyongyang Sunan,North Korea.

India Four Two 20th Mar 2008 16:23

Somewhere in China?

sabredog 20th Mar 2008 16:49

Indeed,India Four Two.
The airfield is in China, but now operational only to G.A. traffic. At least, this was the case up to 2006, when I lasted visited. Still visible on Google though.
