Update of the database up to 14-06-2021 can be found in post 131 page 7

Here are some "rules" for Which Aerodrome. These are based upon the original suggestions from the very first thread, and have a few additions. Also please be patient as when you are active others may be asleep.
  • A historic picture of an aerodrome will be posted.
Newer pictures are allowed but the theme here is to compare/contrast old with new as well as identifying aerodromes which no longer exist.
  • The person who correctly identifies it will be declared the 'winner' by the original poster.
  • That winner shall either post another challenge or declare the floor open (Open House).
Anyone may then post the next challenge.
  • If the winner of the challenge does not respond to the notification of their success within 48 hours, an Open house can be declared when there is consensus between multiple other posters which are on line.
  • When the poster of a challenge does not respond within 48 hours of a posted answer, this poster can be declared winner if the answer is considered to be correct in a consensus of multiple other posters.
  • If Open House is declared, regular posters should not jump in immediately, but time should be given for those who are not great at naming the correct location as they may have some good images.
  • There will only be one challenge running at a time.
  • Try to use elderly photos and not too much Google Earth, Zoom Earth or any other online map pics.
  • Try to post images that are not already present on internet, as Google Image Search will find them if they are. Searching by using Google Image Search, or programmes a-like, is ought not to be done.
  • Personal photos are acceptable as they show the aerodrome as it is now.
  • When confirming the correct location, the location and winner should be stated to negate any deletion of posts.
  • Please don't delete your posts, let everyone see your successes, failures and challenges.
  • Due to obsessive posters in the past, the web moderators have enforced the 24-hour rule:
Each challenge shall run at least 24-hours before a winner is declared by the original poster. This is to enable all Ppruners to search for the challenge and to contribute. This is not a competition, no points are assigned to the winner. Please be careful when posting your answer early, especially when you intend to declare Open House. Much other Ppruners are put-off if the answer is already given and you still have to wait till the initial 24-hours are over anyway. Anyone can edit this Wiki post provided they have been member of Pprune for 90 days and have minimum 90 posts. But please let's get consensus before changing and not go crazy. Is the airstrip in a shallow valley or is it a trick of the camera lens?

OUAQUKGF is near enough. It is actually nearest to the village of Nayland and is known as such, but also as Hill Farm. Surprised it has not featured before but it is not on the Wiki. Good place to practice for your mountain rating. Have checked out a few people for landing there.

As regards the picture, although the ground does rise on either side of the runway it is not as obvious as the camera seems to make it.

OUAQUKGF has control.

Thanks ea200 bit of a fluke but somewhere in the dusty recesses of my old head I recalled watching this video...... Superb country-side of The Stour Valley.

Will have to be OH !

The obstructions and portable fire fighting suggest it may be used for non-aviation purposes. Motor sports or record setting maybe. Long shot but its flat enough to be Elvington.

They do operate helicopters from here but it has a long runway - it's labeled "International" but I think that that aspect is mainly freight. The military also operate there. It's not in the UK

No, although the scenery isn't too dissimilar (at least in the photo I posted). I've had a lot of bother finding out any history on this challenge - I suspect it's over 50 or 60 years old but no old pictures anywhere

Hi Asturias, the scenery's a bit reminiscent of Castile. Could it be Badajoz?

It does like like bits of Spain but I'm afraid not - perhaps further east?

Oops, sorry for the delay in replying. I know Corlu, between Istanbul and the Bulgarian border, has a bit of freight traffic. Not sure about the helicopters though... Plus I suspect it's a bit more mountainous around there, so I'm probably wrong

You are in the right sort of area and on the correct continent but still quite aways away.

This place claims to be International but as I think I said its probably only freight that's international.

You're not getting many takers on this one Asturias I'll have another punt at Nis, Serbia. Don't know much about the place except that I don't think there's much in the way of passenger traffic, but I've seen a video of an IL62 freighter doing an extremely late take-off there!

I know - you're sort of getting close (-ish) - I'm not sure if we've ever had a challenge from this country TBH - It's not a "destination" for anyone I know

Asturias,

As I have the latest update of the database I have a small advantage on the other contestants.
I will therefore not post my answer (yet)
I can confirm this country is not in the database.
For that sake everybody can also use the list of W-A mk3.

Looks like you and I have the same idea:
Post challenges of countries not yet featured before.
(See Vatican City)
In Europe we still have 3 or 4 left.

I am working on getting the updated list posted but for the moment this only seems feasible via a link to a URL (cloud server). I am not aware I have such cloud server. If somebody knows how or is willing to do for me then please send PM.
